    INTEGRATED OIL / FUEL SYSTEMS

    An automatic drain valvereduces the amount of oil inthe filter housing and element,minimizing oil waste at thetime of service.

    Integrated anti drain-backand oil cooler bypass.

    The filter element and screw top cap are apatented, combination design that minimizesskin contact during service. System patentsensure that equipment owners receivegenuine OEM replacement filters.

    Patented center tube filter design includes abypass for engine protection. Because oil is supplied to the engine from the top of thechamber, contaminants collecting at thebottom do not enter the engine.

    Coolant connection is supplied in the module base.

    OIL FILTER MODULES

    The New Generation of Top-Load FiltersA permanent assembly houses both the Racortop-load oil filter and top-load fuel filter. The top-load filters meet the requirements of todays oil-controlled, high pressurefuel injection systems. Racor mediameets the variable geometry andvariable nozzle turbochargerrequirements. An uncompromising,high level of fluid cleanliness is needed to achieve operating efficiency and reach service life. Theenvironmentally-friendly cartridge oil filters are crushable, incinerable and cost-effective to replace.

    Filter service is from the top of themodule and skin contact is minimaldue to the unique screw top cap andoil element attachment. The permanentassembly is customized with a patentedautomatic drain that allows oil to drainback into the sump when the engine isturned off and the screw top cap isremoved for service. This Racor-engineeredfeature eliminates the waste oil that is left in a standard spin-on filter andthrown away during a filter change.

    The top-load oil conditioning moduleis a prime example of value-addedRacor engineering that tailorsa filtration system to aspecific engine working in abroad range of environments.Development includes detailedanalysis of the engines filtration requirements,change intervals, available mounting spaceand a cost analysis of the entire program.Racors investment in rapid prototypeequipment provides fit-up assemblies tofacilitate the development process.

    Cellulose MediaThe engineered design of the Racor cellulose filter elementprovides for an environmentallyclean and efficient oil filter.

    Synthetic MediaThis innovative highefficiency media withstandshigher temperatures whiledelivering extended service life.

    Woven CottonThe winding pattern of the element createsmany identical spiral passageways, tapered incross sections to trap the larger particles nearthe outer portion of the element and the smallerparticles as the oil flows inward through theelement. Solids are filtered by entrapment inthe filter media throughout the entire depth ofthe element. Damaging particle count isreduced by 99.5%.

    Engineered Media Researchand DevelopmentJust as the filter element is at the heart of the system, so too is media research anddevelopment at the heart of Racor engineeringprograms. Racor is of course renowned for itsfuel filtration and patented Aquabloc media.In oil, development programs are equallyambitious and testing equally rigorous.

    1 Efficiency: Testing is per ISO 4548-12.Racor has developed a number of media thatoffer this level of efficiency by blendingcellulose and polyester fibers, which enhancestrength and durability. Synthetic or microglassfibers can be added for strength and efficiency.

    2 Capacity: Testing for capacity is per SAE J806 using SOFTC-2A as a cloggingcontaminant. This more fairly represents whathappens in a crankcase in terms of soot andoxidation products clogging the filter medium.Racor believes this to be a more realisticmeasure of ultimate field performance thanusing test dust as a contaminant.

    3 Media Durability: Filter elements are hot soaked for 500 hours at 250F incontaminated crankcase oil, followed by an element collapse test. The collapse testrequirement after the 500 hour hot soak is for 100 psid or higher.

    In addition to these tests, Racor performsnumerous cold start flow/collapse tests tosimulate winter conditions, particularly withregard to older, used elements where mediastrength might be an issue.

    4 On-vehicle field tests: Racor oilfiltration media meets or exceeds OEM fieldtesting requirements. Elements are returnedto the laboratory after on-vehicle testing forvarious lengths of time and visually inspectedfor damage, flow tested for restriction, bubbletested for element integrity, and collapse-testedfor durability. Open records are tabulated onall field returns for reference by both Racorand its OEM customers.
