PRINCIPAL’S REPORT State Sports
Congratulations to all students who recently participated at the state level in Athletics and Racquetball.
It is a great achievement to participate at this level and we are very proud of you all.
I had the good fortune to attend the Racquet Ball at the Melbourne Sport and Aquatic Centre last
Friday and was very proud of how our students performed. Not only did they do well on the court, they
were outstanding ambassadors for our school, both on and off the court. Well done folks!
Thank you to the staff and parents for supporting our student’s participation. It was an extremely early
start for some families and a very long drive – we appreciate your support.
Marcus Batt, Principal

CONCERT BAND WORKSHOP
On the 28th October the Lucknow Concert band walked to
Gippsland Grammar Junior Campus, to play their woodwind and
brass instruments with their Year 4 training band. Our band was
made up of Emma and Emily on clarinet, Kiah, Semi, and Sophia
on flute, Mary on oboe, Karlee on saxophone, Hayden on trumpet
and Lilli on trombone.
Their band had instruments such as the french horn, euphonium
and percussion that we didn’t have and they were interested to
hear Mary play the oboe.
We began with a workshop on our main pieces then after a short
break we rehearsed in smaller groups. Coming together for a
final run through we put into practice all that we had learnt before performing for the rest of their
school.
Together we played The Spook, Centurion, Jumbo Rock and a collection of short songs from their Band
books. All the staff involved were very impressed by the sound of the combined band of 26 and have
plans for further group performances. Stay Tuned.
Lynette Newman.
“The best thing was learning
about the different
instruments and we liked
playing with another school
and learning from one
another.” A big thank you to
Lynette for taking us to
Gippsland Grammar and to
Gippsland Grammar for
having us.
Emma Mitchell, Emily Peys,
Kiah Montant.

SCHOOL BOOK FAIR NOVEMBER 2019
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who
they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
Set the example. Let children see you read.
Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing
tastes and reading skills.
Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
The theme of our Scholastic Book Fair is Dino-Mite, where we hope you will Stomp, Chomp, and Read!
It’s a fun reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful
selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book
Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
Book Fair dates: 18th November 2019 – 22nd November 2019

Friday Fun Singers!
Just a reminder that the Friday Fun Singers have been officially invited to perform one song for Samuel
Johnston (from Love Your Sister and Dancing with the Stars) on Friday 8th November at approximately
10am outside the Eastwood IGA. This is such a special experience for singers and we can’t wait to see
Samuel’s reaction to our 150 singers.
Our community is invited to this Love Your Sister performance and to our big performance at the
Bairnsdale Show on November 9th at 2:30pm. Even if you don’t have a child in our singing group
come and cheer us on anyway!
Singers will be walked across the road by staff for the Love Your Sister performance. There is no
parental permission form needed because this excursion is within our local walking area.
We ask that Friday Fun Singers please add a touch of sparkle or colour to their school uniform for the
Love your Sister performance and consider contributing a gold coin donation for the Love Your Sister
fundraising.
