The Indian Advertising Industry is as old as the Indian Press. The first newspaper of the
Indian subcontinent, ‘Bengal Gazette’ or the ‘Calcutta General Advertiser’, was started by
James Augustus Hicky on January 29, 1780 and carried few advertisements in it.
Since then advertising industry has come of age.
We reproduce here a few print ads from advertising history featuring famous
personalities and known faces.
