Garbage bin hinders trafficSir, A community garbage bin kept

on Rukmani Street (West Mambalam)is hindering free flow of traffic. It isoften moved closer to the middle of theroad to enable nearby residents topark their car on the road margin.

Garbage from the bin is not clearedregularly and can often be seen over-flowing and the surrounding litteredwith food and plastic waste. It causesnuisance and poses a health hazard topassers-by, especially the students of

Corporation officials thankedSir, Gopal Street, situ-

ated near T. Nagar BusStand was in a very badcondition at both ends, especially near SouthUsman Road which wasused by the public todump garbage and uri-nate. The street used tostink and pose a threatto the health of resi-dents. Our Associationtook up the matter withthe Corporation on Jan. 11 and S. Natrajan (Zonal Officer, CorporationZone 10) took swift action to get the street cleaned, and, with his guidanceand support, we were able to put up a platform in the corner near SouthUsman Road which stopped dumping of garbage and urinating in the areain just 15 days. We also thank Palani (Junior Engineer) and Irudayaraj(Supervisor of Ramkay, Contractor) for helping us. We would also liketo thank R. K. Ashok Nagar 1st Avenue riddled with potholesSir, 1st Avenue, Ashok

Nagar is one of the busi-est streets of the area. The section of the roadbetween Ashok Pillarand 11th Avenue is badlydamaged. There are nu-merous potholes andlarge portions of thesurface were washedaway in several placesduring the heavy rainsin December. The roadis frequented by heavy vehicles which are further damaging the roadposing a grave danger to 2-wheeler riders. It has become a dust bowlleading to severe dust pollution in the area. I appeal to the Corporationto immediately relay the damaged portions of the road. R. Bala, 11th

Plea to open Aavin office on Thanikachalam RoadSir, Residents of Thanikachalam Road, South Boag Road

and Sivaprakasam Road and their by lanes, are put to lots of hardshipin purchasing Aavin milk cards every month. Consumers (mostlysenior citizens and women) can be seen standing for hours in queueoutside Aavin Booth No. 14 (Thanikachalam Street) to purchase themilk cards as they are issued only on one day in a month from 9 a.mto 12 noon. The Aavin office for this area from where cards could bepurchased without difficulty was closed two years ago and consumershave since been put to lots of hardship. If they miss out buying themonthly card from the booth on the allotted day, they are forced to goall the way to Turnbulls Road (Nandanam) to procure the cards. Theonline complaints to Aavin in this regard have been ignored. To solvethe problem, I request the Aavin authorities to reopen the Aavin officein the area or make arrangements for the monthly milk cards to bepurchased from the booth itself upto the 15th of every month. ShanthiVenkat, Thanikachalam Road, T. Nagar

Signals at important junctions not workingSir, The signals at the busy junction of Burkit Road, Thanikachalam Road and

Venkatanarayana Road have not been working for more than week. With signals not working, there is no traffic police to regulate the traffic, especially during peak hours. It is causing trafficproblems and hazards as drivers crisscross in an attempt to rush through. Pedestrians are theworst affected as they find it difficult to cross due to the almost non-stop and unregulated traffic. There is a similar problem at Nandanam junction, where too the signals have not been workingfor more than a week. I request the traffic officials to immediately repair the signals or deputea traffic constable to regulate the traffic till such time the signals are repaired. If not, majoraccidents are waiting to happen at the junctions. S. Ramaprabhu, Soundararajan Street,T. Nagar.
