Suggestions: Suggestions for improvement are provided after the faculty assessment is done against the 11 criteria described above2. Faculty, their evaluations on chosen parameters and suggestions:

1. Dr. Jayanta Kumar SealDr. Jayanta Kumar Seal is an Associate Professor with over 17 years of experience in academics. He has done his M.Com., M.Phil., Ph.D., I.C.W.A . His areas of specialization and interest include Accounting for Managers, Corporate Finance, Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, Derivatives, International Finance. He teaches Financial accounting to the first year students at IIFT Kolkata. He has co-authored various articles like in many publications in the field of finance, commodity derivatives, stock trading etc. 1. Teaching Method: Dr. Seal gave out a clear curriculum plan for the trimester on the first day of college. He has a very calm demeanor and that reflects in his teaching style. He used to enthusiastically solve the problems on the black board. He makes everyone practice a lot of questions so that by the end of this trimester, everyone became well versed with his subject. He used to ask questions especially to students who would doze off during the lectures.

2. Communication:Dr. Seal has a good command over English. He would teach from the center of the class so that even the person in the last row could hear him. He had a positive and a calm body language. He always wore a smile and communicated his thoughts effectively. While teaching, Dr. Seal would make eye contact with every person, which made sure that everyone was attentive and responsive during his lecture.

3. Knowledge of the subject/discipline:Dr Seal has immense knowledge about accounting as he has even co-authored books on the subject. He also has the ability to simplify very confusing (from point of view of an engineer) topics in accounting. He makes accounting look so easy which gives many students confidence to do well in his subject.

4. Course preparation and organization:Dr. Seal adopts a hands-on approach to teaching. His choice of teaching involves the black board where he would prepare the balance sheets, Profit and Loss statement and Cash flow statement with the question being beamed on the screen via the projector. The fact that he uploads all the questions before lecture helps everyone understand accounting better.

5. Clarity and understandability:He adopts a very no-frills approach of addressing complex concepts and covers every facet of the topic-in-hand, thus enabling an in depth knowledge about the subject. He makes everyone practice the topics at least three times so that everyone remains attentive and understand the topics.

7. Sensitivity to and concern with students' level and learning progress:Sir always asks questions targeted to individuals based on their participation level in class and is always concerned about their progress and growth. If he found anyone sleeping in class he would ask them questions and make them understand the topic if they failed to answer. As accounting is not an engineers strong points, he always encouraged people to meet him in his office for those who did not understand the subject.

8. Availability and helpfulness:Dr. Seal is always available for any academic purposes. He encourages people to meet him for a private tutoring in any area of difficulty. He is never tired of repeating the same concept again and again , and will only proceed with the topic if he is convinced that almost all of the class understands the topic.

9. Quality of examinations:While he puts in a lot of work in teaching students, he also expects the students to put in equal amount of effort in revisiting his teachings, studying and revising all the topics in order to garner knowledge and attain excellence. This is evident from the quality of questions that was asked in the quizzes and end term question paper.

10. Impartiality in evaluating students:Dr. Seal is very liberal towards all students and awards the grades according to their class participation level, which is also a component in the final score tally of his subject Financial Accounting.

11. Overall fairness to students:Dr. Seal is perceived to be impartial, liberal and accessible faculty in Kolkata campus. There is no ambiguity about his fairness towards students. He has no favorite students whom he favors.Suggestions:Dr. Seal has a tendency of rushing through the topics while teaching.Dr. Seal should teach at a slower pace than what he teaches so thateveryone is on the same page with accounting. Since accounting is analien topic to the entire batch, as all are engineers, Dr. Seal shouldexplain the 'whys' of accounting in a simpler language
