28 May 2021 Moanalua High School AP Environmental Science School Year 2021-2022 Summer Homework and Expectations Complete the outlines for Chapters 01 through 04 in a COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK (not a spiral). Please use the Cornell note taking method as shown below. 1. Read the entire section first. Do not read, copy, read, copy- this is a waste of your time and ineffective. If you find yourself doing this, put the pencil/ pen away. Read the section, THEN grab your pencil/pen. 2. When you finish reading the section, decide which aspects are important. This is the hardest part of taking notes BUT with practice and patience you will figure out this is better than rewriting the whole chapter and more of the info will stick in your head. 3. Now you can begin writing out your notes: a. Write the notes using the format below. Write condensed notes- avoid rewriting the sentences from the section. b. Bullet, star, or highlight main ideas or concepts. Use letters to organize the details. c. Use symbols and shorthand (don’t forget to add a legend to your notes if you do!) Your teacher will be assigning one current event ‘research’ assignment via the school GoogleClassroom during the month of July 2021. The purpose of this assignment will be to assistyou in making connections with what you have been taking notes on to relevant events thatare occurring in our world. The assignment will be written in such a way so that you will beable to ‘self-guide’ yourself through the process. Please remember to check your schoolemail/ GClassroom regularly or set up your GClassroom to send you automatic notifications.

Thought to Ponder:

This is an Advanced Placement Course.Its main purpose is to prepare you tosuccessfully pass the AP Environmental ScienceCollege Board Exam that is scheduled sometime during the first two weeks of May 2022. Asyou enter your senior year you will not onlyhave your school workload (yes, school is your‘job’) but college applications, scholarshipapplications, job applications, and other ‘posthigh school’ plans to juggle. If- after lookingat this document, the textbook, and pondering what is going on in your head- you are havingsecond thoughts about ANY of your courses, please contact your counselor to adjust yourcourse load.
