FROM THE DESK OF MONSIGNOR HEITING

FOLLOWING YOUR CONSCIENCE… In our gospel from Saint Matthew for the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time, we see the story of two sons. One son refused his father’s request to work in the vineyard and said that he would not go. After some thought, he did what his father asked. The second son said that he would obey his father’s request, but he did not. The first son was the more righteous of the two because he followed his conscience. Another way to look at “conscience” is to realize that it is really the Holy Spirit prompting us to do what is true, good, and beautiful. Pray that we might always follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit! OFF AND RUNNING! Our religious education programs in our parish cluster are off and running! This weekend we have the Blessing of Catechists at St. Anthony Parish and the regular religious education program begins. At Saint Gabriel Parish, we have the Rite of Testimony for our Confirmation students. For the young people being confirmed in the Catholic faith from Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and Saint Gabriel Parish, we have our Confirmation retreat this afternoon in Iona. Please continue to pray that all of our young people grow in their faith. THE PROCESS OF BECOMING CATHOLIC... If you have a non-Catholic spouse, relative, or friend who might be interested in becoming Catholic, our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program will be starting soon. The program for 2017-2018 will start this fall and will conclude at the Easter Vigil. Anyone who might be interested in becoming Catholic, please contact me (507-458-5702) or the Directors of our RCIA program, Pat and Shelly Merrick (507-274-6760) as soon as possible. PARISH CLUSTER WISHES… Our sympathy and prayers to Immaculate Heart of Mary parishioners Kim and Scott Ruppert on the death of their son, Joshua Lee Imes. May he rest in peace. We are most grateful to the late Saint Gabriel parishioner Stella Heimendinger for remembering our parish in her will. Our parish and our religious education program will benefit from Stella’s foresight and generosity.
