THE TIME IS HERE …“The struggle for women's equality continues in many aspects of American life, and in countries around the world...Our daughters can contribute just as much to
society as our sons, and our common prosperity will be advanced by allowing all humanity - men and women -
to reach their full potential … The United States will partner with any Muslim majority country to support expanded literacy for girls, and to help young women
pursue employment through micro financing, that helps people live their dreams.”
~ President Barack Obama Address to the Muslim World

TRANSFORMATIONAL IMPACT
“Study after study has shown that there is no effective development strategy in which women do
not play a central role. When women are fully involved, the benefits can be seen immediately –
families are healthier and better fed, their income, savings, and reinvestment go up. And what is true of families is also true of communities and in the
long run of whole countries.”

PROJECT #2Eradication of Female Genital Mutilation in
CairoProblem:• The midwife performs 196 procedures threatening the lives of
200 girls a year and earns $980/year (100 Egyptian pounds per procedure)
• The barber performs 120 procedures a year, threatening 120 girls’ lives a year and earns 6,000 pounds/year or $300
MWF’s Solution:• In the case of 1 midwife, we gave her a grant of $2,000 to start
a new grocery store to offset her loss of income through FGM• In the case of 1 barber, we gave him a grant of $2,000 to
remodel his shop so that he can attract more customers• ROI:
• For $10.20 we can save a girl’s life by investing in a midwife
• For $16.66 we can save a girl’s life by investing in a barber16

VALUE OF INVESTING IN WOMEN
“Women brought so much more benefit to the family than the same amount of
money going to the family through men. If she makes money, she takes care of
the children ... improves the household.”
