Highly Valued by a Worthy ManLuk 7:1-5 ESV After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the

people, he entered Capernaum. (2) Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him. (3) When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. (4) And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, "He is worthy to have you do this for him, (5) for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue."

Servant – (doulos) a slave in its fullest extent. Servant Sick to the point of death. Servant Highly Valued by a Worthy Centurion. Centurion Worthy Because of his love of Israel…

The term, "proselytes of the gate", was derived from the frequently occurring description in the law of the stranger that is within, Exo_20:10; etc. "Converts of thy gates"; this class were not bound by circumcision, and the other special laws of the Mosaic code. It is doubtful, however, whether the distinction made in the Talmud ever really existed. (Smith’s Bible Dictionary)

A Worthy Man?Act 10:22 ESV And they said, "Cornelius,

a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say."

An Unworthy AuthorityLuk 7:6-8 ESV And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. (7) Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. (8) For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."

The Centurion Knew Jesus Man is not Worthy A man of Authority knew the Authority of Jesus

In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (13) And to the centurion Jesus said, "Go; let it be done for you as you have believed." And the servant was healed at that very moment.
