A Special OpportunityGod has blessed me over the years with the opportunity to serve as Principal of a variety of very good schools each with caring, compassionate, hardworking and talented staff. Before I accepted this opportunity, I knew from multiple conversations with Sofie and countless others that Holy Name School was more; it was special. I am quickly learning what special means when I am visiting with our staff, parents, donors, alumni, etc. For some it has been hard to put a finger on what special really means here other than being a great school. My thought is this, special at Holy Name School means “more than”. It means “more than” just a smile. You have staff members who do “more than” just teach the subjects or curriculum; they teach children how to love and believe in themselves.

Here all staff members do “more than” just teach our Catholic faith; they live it, practice it, and expect our children to do the same. In my short time here, I can tell you all this is true. I love the teachers and staff, and I have been so impressed with each of them. The children at Holy Name School are so very special, and I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to be their principal. But what has impressed me the most is the unwavering support from alumni, the business community, and the members of CUES. These are truly caring and giving people who have a special place in their hearts for the students who have the privilege to attend this school today, tomorrow and for countless years down the road. My hope is to expand and build on the spiritual and academic successes of the past while carrying on a vision of growth and a renewal of our school facilities for the future. I hope during my time I will have the opportunity to thank each of you for the huge difference you are making for the children and families of Holy Name School.

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

As we approach the Autumnal equinox of 2015, it is hard to believe that

harvest time is near. For the 2015-2016 school year, we continue to count our

many blessings. Holy Name School’s bountiful harvest this year includes the

acknowledgement of a balanced budget, a Pre-K to Eighth grade student

population of over 200 students, an exceptional new principal and major

improvements to the campus facilities.

You…our alumni, school parents, present and past faculty and staff, parishioners

and friends have made these blessings possible. I am so proud to present this

Rambler/Annual Report to all of you! We are so grateful for the volunteerism,

generosity, prayers and hard work that is offered to this school today just as it

has been over the past ninety seven years. The children and families that we

serve today know that they walk on the shoulders of giants, they feel the legacy

of our tradition and faith, they know that at Holy Name School they can become

the leaders of tomorrow.

Please continue to pray for and support our mission as we continue to maintain

the level of excellence, compassion and tradition that is the spirit of Holy Name

In late June the thirteen clans of the Vaughan family gathered in Omaha for their every five year reunion. In 2015 the number of family members attending reached over 770. There are living descendents in eleven of the thirteen clans. Many of these Vaughan family members are alumni of Holy Name High and Grade School.

HOLY NAME SCHOOL HARVEST 2015

Prost! Cheers to Holy Name School! Our Harvest Chairs, Amber and Shane G92 Allen invite you to join us for Harvest on October 2nd. The event will have an Oktoberfest theme and feature exciting new sights, sounds, and tastes for you to enjoy! The evening will begin with the Barry Boyce Polka Band during the silent auction. Scriptown Brewing Company has created an Oktoberfest- style beer to be served at the event as well as in the brewery. Throughout the month of September and October. A donation will be made to Holy Name School for each pint purchased at Scriptown! Visit Scriptown at 3922 Farnam Street.

Mr. Dean Leisman H85 is the Chief Operating Officer of Jams and Pitch restaurants and is supporting the event by offering the great food and culinary expertise of the chefs from these fine restaurants. A German-themed menu is being created for our guests. Following dinner, the Holy Name School Show Choir will provide entertainment.

We will gather in the beautiful Truhlsen Event Center on the UNMC Campus (42nd and Emile) beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2nd.
