Heart of the Herd Sale

Dear Fellow Charolais Breeders:It is hard to believe that it has been over 25 years since we bought ourfirst purebred Charolais. The biggest discussion in our house over thepast few weeks has been “what do we call our sale”? This is not adispersal sale. We are not getting out of cattle or even out of theCharolais business, but we are cutting back. Jacqui has been asking meto cut back for several years now so that we are able to get away oncein awhile without having to call in all our family, friends and favours tocover the time away. We believe that time has arrived. We are offeringup some exceptional stock to add to or to start a purebred herd. Thefemales that we are offering are all very productive cows from theheart of our herd. We cull our females in the fall and only keep thosefemales that fit our program – good feet, good udders and femininelooking. We decided on this group of females to offer for sale becausewe feel they are the females that people are looking for. We are notholding back “the good ones”. Welcome to Wayne and Jacqui’s Heart of the Herd Sale. This is not a dispersal sale butWayne is giving you an opportunity to buy the heart of the herd they started over 25years ago. They just need to cut down the workload, but they by no means are leavingthe Charolais business. Charolais have been good to the Macks and they have shownsuccessfully over the years across Ontario. They have also tested bulls at Douglas for yearsand have been involved in local sales with this spring’s bull sale being as good as ever.The cows are very feminine, good uddered and good footed females that will go outand work anywhere. They are not pampered and will be coming to you in workingcondition. You will see what you are getting as they will not go home and melt away.With the price of grain, Wayne felt he would just bring them to you as they would be athis place. There are also some very fancy show prospect heifer calves and some bullcalves that will work at many levels.

The cattle industry has many good years ahead. With the drought in the U.S., the herd building hasbeen postponed and even reversed. This will make calf production in North America even lower in the years ahead. This should begood for a long time. I also believe that the Charolais breed has a big role to play in the future production of beef in this country. Last fall we saw thequality Charcross calves again top markets right across the country. As a result this spring we saw the demand for Charolais bullsincrease and the prices being the highest in the 31 years we have been tabulating results.If you have ever thought about getting into the Charolais breed or expanding your existing operations, now is the time. Health StatusCows have been on a vaccination program for over 20years. Currently, all cows have been vaccinated with liveExpress 10 HS before they were exposed to bull.

Yearling heifers were vaccinated with Express 10 HS andTasvax 8 (for black leg) on March 4th, 2012.

All older calves were vaccinated with Tasvax 8 on May 1st, 2012.

All calves will be vaccinated with Express prior to sale.

All cattle have been treated with Bimectin pour on forlouse control before being put out to pasture.

Most cows were pregnancy checked on July 3rd, 2012; anydates that could not be confirmed at that time will beconfirmed early September.

TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale

in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle

will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the

sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or

special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid

is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last

bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take

precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close

attention to announcements.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All

animals left with the seller must be insured.

Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian

Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to

the buyer after payment has been made.

Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale.

Breeder Guarantee - Bulls: Because we will not be managing the bull calves

after the sale they sell with no breeding guarantee.

Breeder Guarantee – Females: As per the Canadian Charolais Association Code

of Ethics. Copies are available at the settlement desk to be picked up by the buyer at

any time.

Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or

surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal

has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller

be responsible for more than the purchase price.

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and

comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any

responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident

or loss of property.

By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not

responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or

for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By

Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By

Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the

buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and

the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and

representations.

Insurance: Insurance will be available sale day.

Pictures: By attending the sale you are granting permission for your picture to be

used for promotional and advertising purposes relating to the sale.
