Type of Magazine

• Our aim was to create an article from a very mainstream film magazine such as Empire or Total Film rather than a specialist magazine.

• The feature that we used, Top 5 underrated films of the last 12 months would be a typical feature seen in these types of magazines.

• We felt that using an article in a mainstream magazine would help it reach a wider audience rather than just a short film audience.

Features from two film magazines

One is for The Dark Knight and the other Rock ’N’ Rolla

• We used five reviews on the double page, four of them are small reviews of films that we have watched throughout the year and enjoyed, but they didn’t perform as well as they could have at the box office.

• For the number one film, which is our short film, we used a larger review than the others in the article as it is our feature film.

Title – On set

• We called the magazine On Set as we felt as though it was a good name for a film magazine, as it implies that we actually visit the films that we review. We put in the top left corner of the double page spread because we do not have a cover page showing the tile.

• Our magazine is aimed at a younger audience, a 15 – 25 audience perhaps. This is because we decided to create it as quite a casual magazine, for people who have an interest in films but may find other magazines give too much information about things that don’t interest them. It is also aimed more at a male audience, which you can see from the films we chose to review and also the colour scheme may add to this point. We also added user reviews in a side bar, making the magazine more interactive with its audience, these reviews could have come from places such as twitter, Facebook or the magazines website.

• We also added another feature to the article called “on set with on set”, which gives readers a behind the scenes look of the making of the film along with photos of the crew.

Colour Scheme

• For the article we decided to use quite bright colours to help it catch peoples eyes and make them intrigued, we colours like red, black text on a white background, silver etc.
