My sub genre: POP Pop music (a term that originally derives from

an abbreviation of "popular") is a genre of popular music, which originated in its modern form in the 1950s, deriving from rock and roll. The terms "popular music" and "pop music" are often used interchangeably, even though the former is a description of music which is popular (and can include any style).

As a genre, pop music is very eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles including urban, dance, rock, Latin and country; nonetheless, there are core elements which define pop.

Similar music magazines Masthead is a single letter

which is easily recognisable and eye catching. Brand name relates to music (que the music) and is easy to remember.

Red and white colour scheme is gender neutral although certain artists EG Lana Del Rey are presented in a stereotypical colour to attract certain fans.

Mid shot used for artist which follows conventions of magazine covers.

The FADER is a New York-based music publication launched in 1998 by Rob Stone and Jon Cohen. The FADER documents a diverse range of emerging and iconic music, style and culture through in-depth reporting and a distinct street sensibility.[2] The FADER is credited with giving exposure to top artists months ahead of mainstream recognition, including Kanye West, Bon Iver,The Strokes, Drake and The White Stripes

•Constant mast head. The first letter of ‘FADER’ is separated and is used as an iconic trademark for the brand. Fader means ‘a device for varying the volume of sound’ which relates to music and is a simple recognisable word.•Colour scheme is gender neutral to keep the target audience broad and fan focused instead.•Shot types differ EG close up or medium close up. Both show important parts to the artist eg makeup, fashion, background.

Fader Article The article is written in the view of the

reporter. It includes quotes from the artists.

A large quote is used at the top of the first page which intrigues the reader. The use of different fonts and colours make it appealing but still keeps within the house style.

The article is set out in two large columns containing a number of different paragraphs separated by indentation.

The black text is easy to read against the contrast of a white background.

The article uses informal language including popular teenage words for example “they’ve been busting ass” and “pissing on stage”. This bad language suits the genre of music in which the band is. Rock/ indie bands are stereotypically rebellious which appeals to the teenage/young adult target audience.

The layout of the article implies its not for young children. It isn't broken down and appealing to the eye which suggests it is being aimed at slightly older teenage readers.

POP magazine differs with each issue. Each issue is customised for the artist which helps dedicate the magazine to certain fans each time.

Medium close up used each time.

The font of the mast head remains constant while the colouring/patterning of it is unique to each issue. It contrasts with that backgrounds to stand out. This is unconventional for a magazine.

Name is simple and relates to the genre. Not hard to remember.

Q ARTICLE

The article from Q is an interview with U2. The interview is laid out in a simple question and answer format with the artists name clearly stated along with their exact answer. The language used is informal and easy to read but slang and ‘teenage’ language is not present which suits the older target audience of U2’s fans. The colour scheme of the article matches the whole magazine which reinforces the house style. The question and artist name is bold which helps ensure the reader knows who is saying what. The colours are easy to read against the white background. The first letter of the article is large and stands out. This is typical of magazine articles and conforms to the conventions of magazines.
