NME DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Three quarters of the page are taken up by a picture and a quote from the artist on the picture. This is to catch the reader’s attention because the quote will be something shocking or exciting which in this case is “people think I’m an attention seeker, but I’m just honest” which will make people wonder what she means by this and will make them want to read the rest of the article. The picture is to show readers what/who the article is about very quickly without them having to read anything.

The colour scheme of the double page spread is very simple- black and white with red only used twice to highlight words from the writing which again should be things which will intrigue the reader. The colour scheme makes the picture of the artist stand out more as she is wearing red which does still fit into the colour scheme so it all looks in place and looks aesthetically pleasing but it stands out as it is more brightly coloured.

The quote is in a font which looks like each letter has been taken from a newspaper or something and put on the page, this gives the article an edgy feel which is what it is about as the interview is meant to be quite shocking and out there. The picture links into this as the artist (Lilly Allen) is presented in an edgy way.

Q DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

One whole page of the spread is taken up by a medium shot of the artist (Jay Z) which immediately shows the reader what the article is about. It has a red effect on it which keeps the colour scheme of the magazine going but also makes the other page which is mainly black and white more exciting.

Next to the picture is a small paragraph which gives an insight into the article in a large font which makes this quick and easy to read but should make the reader want to read the rest of the article.

The other page is taken up purely by writing which is just black on a white background. Over the writing is a big J in bold red font which makes the writing look more exciting and breaks up the two sides of the writing and gives the reader a rest. Occasional big font letters of the start of a word also breaks up the text. The big J over the writing is in the same font as the Q on the front cover which keeps the colour scheme going throughout the magazine and gives continuality.

MOJO DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Similar to Q contents page, three quarters of the double page spread is taken up by pictures. One large image of the singer in the band takes up the full left hand page of the spread while smaller pictures of the other members of the band take up nearly half of the right hand page.

A quote starting just inside of the left hand page continues across the right hand page in order to connect the two pages. This is in a large font as this is what will intrigue the reader into reading the rest of the article. The quote should either be something shocking, exciting or leave the reader questioning it in order for them to want to read on. In this case it is “we’re being the best MCR we can be” which will leave the reader wondering what they mean by this and how they will do this.

The colour scheme of the double page spread is black, white and red. The pictures are black and white which makes other parts of the page stand out more as the size of the pictures alone is enough to grab the reader’s attention.

The large amount of writing is white writing on a black background in order for it to be easy to read but should not be a bright colour as this is not the part which should stand out to the reader.

The large quote going across the two pages is in red and white large font, majority in red but “the best MCR” is in white in order for this to be the stand out part of the quote and really grab the reader’s attention as they will wonder what it means.
