Magnolia Golf Design is an experienced company in golf course design,

as well as project production, work supervision, redesign, maintenance and

preparation of documents required: Master Plan, feasibility studies, devel-

opment plans, etc.

The members of the company are those who worked for Severiano Balles-

teros in his golf course design company, and his other companies to do with

his work as a professional golf player.

The most outstanding representatives

of this specialized team are Gonzalo

and Antonio Lavín. They are the tech-

nicians who deal with all of the

abovementioned matters, and

Baldomero Ballesteros as the person in

charge of tournament creation, including feasibility studies, management

and event organization.

Maestro and Professional Golf Player, as well as Severiano´s elder brother,

Baldomero has been Seve´s top collaborator in all of his companie. In

summary, he has been the maximum person in charge of the Ballesteros

companies for over thirty years.

Baldomero will now contribute his vast experience in all

facets of the golf world to our company Magnolia and

will be the maximum guarantee that Seve´s legacy is en-

tirely continued with regards to the design of golf cours-

es.

In order to do this, Baldomero places his trust in Gonza-

lo and Antonio Lavín, the same collaborators who have

worked worldwide for Seve, as well as for Baldomero

himself, for over the past twenty-seven years.

land, Ireland, Spain, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Thailand……..and

which all have Seve Balles-

teros´ unmistakable hall-

concept, based on a Natural Design with the utmost respect towards its en-

vironment. The site and its surroundings are the leading characters and

not the designer.

alongside someone as unique and special as Seve Ballesteros. We, as

Seve´s exclusive work team, were in charge of reflecting all the ideas that

flowed through Seve´s mind, onto the land. Now it is our pride and duty

to continue to spread that legacy which he left only to us, in new golf

courses which will be as exciting as those designed up to the present day.

As before, we will continue to search for a natural design, always in har-

mony with terrain conditions, attempting to emphasize its characteristics

and integrating the environment within

the course. In this way, construction

work will be lighter and subsequently

maintenance will be feasible technically

Master Plan. Obtaining a balanced planning of the available land is one of the most important facets for achieving the desired success in a Project.

Bearing in mind the promoter´s opin-ions, environment conditions and our experience of over three decades in

this kind of work and that we are able to contribute, and after successive approaches, we reach a planning which is dimensionally balanced.

This work is essential for acquiring the necessary environmental and legal work permits, as well as economic feasibility. For this reason, professional elaboration is fundamental, since any changes made in fu-ture phases would be very complicated.

Assisting with multi-disciplinary teams sup-plying all the links for these processes, guar-

antee us solid foundations on which all the elements of the complex can be de-

signed, irrespective of its typology (golf courses on protected land, social sports clubs, residential areas, hotels, shopping centres, urban areas……)

Feasibility Study. Both in the previous stage as in the present stage, it is important to have topographical information, vegetation plans, as well as aerial photography. These are complementary to the on-site visit, therefore obtaining a wide range of all the special features of the area to be studied, so that all the elements which compose the development can be integrated. In this way the landscape´s char-acteristics are composed on the course as a fundamental element within the design.

The Designs which are compatible with the Master Plan prepared, are analyzed and made feasible with our design philosophy. Likewise, progress is made regarding construction solu-tions and budget enforcement so as to create the final model. The use of the most modern technology to be included in the maintenance budget is also estimated.

Once all of this is confirmed, a preliminary design is prepared and will be used as the founda-tion for continuing with the fol-lowing phases.

Project. This document is fun-damental in the construction work, not only does it refer to the characteristics of the design, but is also a complete engineering project which includes a specification report and each chapter is valued in due form.

Whilst elaborating the Project, analysis of the environment takes on an im-portant role, so minimizing the environmental impact at the time of solving any technical problems which may arise during the construction. The fi-nal integration of the course in its surroundings will depend on the success of such valuations.

The Project´s specific nature and the use of advanced technology, assures us that the work to be carried out has the very best budget.

Work Supervision. The follow-up of the different construction phases is essential for impregnating the course with its own personality as well as achieving a perfect coordination of the work to be carried out, guaranteeing budget control and keeping work on schedule.

This is the only way of completing the construction within the estimated time limits which should also be in harmony with the vegetation cycles, es-sential where seeding is concerned and guarantees the object of the design and its strategic concepts.

In this way, the course will be vivacious, have a life of its own, and there will be no evidence of our intervention, giving importance to the site and not the designer.

Maintenance. Complementary to the design, project and construction is the maintenance. An excellent design may be perfectly carried out and con-structed, but without the appropriate maintenance, it will be lacking the brilliance it requires to catch the eye of the investors and players. Also, in some cases, an excellent maintenance is good for dazzling its visitors even though it may possibly lack in other aspects.

At the time of attaining a design that is integrated in its environment and also sustainable, our intention is to prepare a maintenance which is neither complicated nor has a high budget.

Management. The main goal after design, project, supervision, construction and maintenance works of the golf course have been completed is to be successful in the course´s day-to-day management.

In this respect, it is not only important to achieve maximum profitability, but to offer first class services and the common denominator should be “convenience for the customer”. It is important that the person using the installations should feel comfortable, whatever the area he may be enjoy-ing, and this should be an extra element within the golf course network.

In addition to all of the above, an adequate functioning of all the installa-tions within the complex is top priority. This will be the result of all the professional work carried out in the first stages of planning, when prepar-ing the Master Plan and Design.

The name of the company, Magnolia Golf Design, is a tribute and is in

honour of its friend and mentor Seve Ballesteros.

The Magnolia tree is Augusta´s maximum representative. It was Seve´s

favourite tree and for this reason he requested that his ashes be buried un-

der the magnolia tree in his garden of his home in Pedreña, where he

passed away.

All of the projects are based on the ideas developed with Seve, his thoughts,

the design philosophy established together and which was always present

when designing and constructing a golf course.
