Schools are back in session, folks are coming back from trips up North, the weather is getting cooler (wishful thinking!!) and the ladies of Heritage Hills Loving Hearts & Hands are once again turning their attentions back to projects to help others in our community and around the world.
Barbara Beaumont’s group of ladies completed 30 crocheted and knitted hats and several “throws” they are donating to the Florida Cancer Specialists and also to the Clermont Oncology Center. A special “thank you” to several ladies in the Happy Hookers group here in Heritage Hills for contributing some of the hats.
Lucille Meyers and Lynne Bie, along with their group of busy ladies have made a total of 28 walker totes they will be dividing between several assisted living residences right here in Clermont.
Our group shipped 50 Dress A Girl dresses and dolls to our “Francy Project” in Botswana, Africa.
Lastly, we shipped 224 dresses and dolls to Peru in South America via our Lake Nona contact in Orlando for the Dress A Girl Organization.
Now we’re gearing up for a number of events we will be involved with in the Fall.
Be sure to check us out at the September 14 meeting. Michael Callahan will be a guest speaker talking to us about the Dress A Girl Organization. This meeting will be held at 1 PM in the Toscana Ballroom.
HHLH&H will also sponsor Trivia Night scheduled for Friday, September 30. Put together a team of friends or just come out that night to meet new ones. Look for the article in this publication with more information regarding day and time.
And, finally, in October we will hold another collection of dresses and dolls to go to a selected Dress A Girl location. This will be the last dress collection/donation for the year and we’re excited to make it a huge success!
So, ladies, start your sewing machines!!

Heritage Hills Retired Teachers Group met for the second time to discuss how we can make a difference in the lives of local students and how we can help the teachers in our surrounding community.
After much discussion and tossing around ideas, we agreed to start small and to “chunk” our abilities in one school in order to zero in where we are really needed. To that end, we will be volunteering at Sawgrass Elementary School, primarily in the 3rd grade, to start. Because we are so fortunate to have a local retired principal in our group, we had excellent direction on how to organize this endeavor, along with many valuable suggestions from the group. We will be volunteering where needed, in particular, in the classroom, mentoring, tutoring, media room assistance, replenishment of needed supplies, possible cafeteria monitoring, rewards to teachers, such as an occasional breakfast or lunch, or just a treat. Also incentive reward programs to students.
This group is open to all who may want to volunteer in this area, not just retired teachers. It is a worthy opportunity to help students who may just need a little extra adult presence in their life. One small act can influence one child’s future.
If you would like to volunteer, come to our next meeting which will be announced in the very near future. Hope to see you there!

How to live with high blood pressureor high blood fats like cholesteroland triglycerides (or both)
Heart attack and stroke are two of the leading causes of death for people in the U.S. over the age of 40. There are proven ways to reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke.

1. First and most important, we would like to thank those who donated yarn to our group. Below are pictures of lapghans (afghans used by those in wheel chairs) completed by Mary
Becker. These lapghans will be donated to the Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona.

Chimes ClubsSublime Chimers & Charming Chimersare back! Practice started August 31.
Hello, everyone! There are two musical organizations already in place in our HH community. Sublime Chimes plays hand-held chimes and meets every Wednesday from 5:45 PM to 6:45 PM. The music is very easy and our main goal is to have fun while we are learning to play beautiful music together.
Our more advanced chime ensemble, Charming Chimes, has people who already read music. Both ensembles are preparing for our next Christmas holiday season. Charming Chimes meets from 6:45 until 8. Both meet in the ballroom on the stage.
Our chimers want to expand our membership immediately: five for Sublime Chimes; and three for Charming Chimes.
If you think that you would like to join us, please come to our rehearsal. If you read music, or have played chimes or handbells, you will probably fit right in to Charming Chimes. If you are new to musical notation, and really want to have fun, Sublime Chimes is for you.
We hope you will consider joining us and sharing in the fun!Contact Dave Bushnell, director, at
[email protected] or 352-243-3312.
I LoveNew York
Bonnie & ClydeSeptember 18, Sunday at 2 PM
Presented by: Bob & Dianna DuffyProduced by: Garden Theatre, Winter Garden, FL
Directed by: Rob Winn Anderson With a mutual craving for excitement and a wish for fame,
two small-town nobodies in Depression-era Texas meet and immediately set out to chase their dreams. Together their bold and reckless behavior turns the young lovers’ thrilling adventure into a downward spiral, putting themselves and their loved ones in trouble with the law. Resorting to robbery and murder while on the run, the infamous duo will do anything to survive. This musical, infused with blues, gospel and fiddle-filled rockabilly, was nominated for Outstanding New Broadway Musical and Outstanding New Score by the Outer Critics Circle Awards, and for Original Score at the 2012 Tony Awards.
Tickets: Will be less than $29. Mature subject matter; may not be suitable for all audiences.Hi Everyone,
The I LOVE NEW YORK CLUB is anticipating another fun event for meeting and greeting our neighbors and enjoying an afternoon out. The club is open to ALL Heritage Hills residents. A commitment for tickets for the above play needs to be received by August 5th. Tickets prices will be at least 10% below box office prices depending on the size of the group. If there is insufficient interest, we will scratch this event but stay tuned for other events and keep those ideas coming. Please let me know as soon as possible as we also need to collect checks for this event.
Our October event is West Side Story, a matinee on October 5. The price on those tickets is $30 per person. The tickets are front center seating. Please contact Bunnie Friedman for those tickets. Her contact information is 407-614-3122.

September book: The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk KiddNew members are always welcome. Our book discussions always
get one thinking and are great fun besides. Please come join us this month!
Inspired by the true story of Sarah Grimké, an early 19th century abolitionist and suffragist, Kidd weaves her story of two women, Sarah, daughter of a wealthy South Carolina plantation owner, and “her slave,” Handful.
Told in first person, the chapters alternate between Sarah’s and Handful’s perspectives, as the reader follows their unlikely friendship from childhood through middle age. Even though their struggles are quite different, both women make every effort to get free - one from the bonds of patriarchy and bigotry, the other from the horrific bonds of slavery.
Kidd’s first novel, The Secret Life of Bees (2002), as well as her The Mermaid Chair (2005) both made the New York Times bestseller list, as did this novel.
IMPORTANT: Please email Dor with suggestions for our 2017 Book List. List the title, author and why you are nominating the book. We’ll collect book ideas during September and October, in November you will receive a ballot and the new Book List will be available in December.
