BURGUNDY
Prodigious Bourgogne winesAfter the challenges thrown at them in 2012, Bourgogne winemakers were hoping for a peaceful 2013. But capricious Mother Nature had other ideas. Defying all weather forecasts, she never let up. After a long winter, a gloomy spring and a fine, providential summer, for the most part, the pickers had to wait until the start of October to take up their secateurs.
The consequences of the weather’s whims - such as shatter and millerandage, hail damage, concentration and disease –all had an impact on the quantities harvested. Across the region, no winegrowing area was spared. Some had very low yields with volumes equal to or even less than those recorded in 2012 (1.26 million hectoliters).
Fortunately, the first tastings suggest that 2013 is a very successful vintage. Once again, experience has made all the difference. It has been a challenging year but the winegrowers of Bourgogne have been rewarded for their pains.
White winesFruity and balanced, the white wines are characterized by a nose marked with citrus.
This aromatic crispness is also felt in the mouth. The wines are well structured, fresh and lively, without the aggression some feared given the acidity measurements taken just before the harvest. Forthright and without flourishes, the whites of 2013 stand up convincingly to previous vintages.
Red winesWith an intense, sparkling ruby color, these fruity wines are like a mouthful of freshly picked cherries, raspberries and redcurrants. The Pinot Noirs that were harvested later have more jammy aromas.
On tasting, the first acidulated notes give way to a good structure supported by sophisticated, pronounced tannins. Good length on the tongue prolongs the pleasure.

Understanding AOC
T he Latours have been vintners in Burgundy since the 17th century, slowly building a unique Domaine of 125 acres. Maison Louis
Latour currently has the largest Grand Cru prop-erty in all of the Cote d’Or with a total of 71.58 acres. The vineyards extend from Chambertin in the north to Chevalier-Montrachet in the south and are solely planted with the two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
All of the grapes from the estate vineyards are vinified and aged in the attractive cuverie of Château Corton Grancey in Aloxe-Corton.
The winery was the first purpose-built cuverie in France and remains the oldest still-functioning. A unique rail-way system with elevators allows the entire wine-making process to be achieved by the use of gravity. This eliminates the threat of oxida-
tion from unnecessary pumping of the must. Since 1985, Louis Latour has been selling the wines from its own vineyards under the name Domaine Louis Latour.
The Latour family founded the ‘Maison de négoce’, an important shipping company, in 1797, and it is still based at 18 Rue des Tonneliers in Beaune to
this day. The company is unique in Burgundy in that it is still family-owned and family-run, having been passed down from father to son for over ten generations.
To celebrate our Bicentenary in 1797, we published a commemorative book and were admitted into the exclusive club of
the Hénokiens. This club only accepts compa-nies that are leaders in their respective fields, remain family owned, have a history of 200 years’ experience and still bear the name of
their founder. There are only approximately 30 of these companies in the world.
Maison Louis Latour ships its wines to over 60 countries world-wide. These world-class Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs can be found on the most famous dining tables around the globe.
Louis-Fabrice Latour, born the 29th of February, 1964 in Beaune (in the Côte d’Or, France), has the distinct honor of serving as the 7th Louis to manage the family wineries and the 11th generation running the company. Louis-Fabrice Latour is a graduate of the Paris Institute of
Political Science (class of 1985). After graduation, he worked a year at Pari-bas in Paris as Attaché de Direction. He became General Managing Director of Maison Louis Latour in 1999.
Louis-Fabrice Latour is the co-President of the “Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne” and the Vice-President of F.E.V.S. (Fédération des Expor-tateurs de Vins et Spiritueux de France). Member of the Hénokiens Association in Paris (only open to independent companies that have been family owned for over 200 years), Louis-Fabrice is a recipient of the French Legion of Honor- the highest decoration bestowed by the nation.

Over the years, the Febvres acquired holdings in some of the greatest terroirs in Chablis. Today, the domaine comprises approximately 10 acres, crowned by a 2/3 acre plot in the Grand Cru vineyard of Les Preuses, with 3.5 acres of 1er Cru Mont de Milieu and 4.7 acres of communal Chablis vineyards. In 2003, Simonnet-Febvre was acquired by Maison Louis Latour. Since its purchase, the Latours have completely renovated the winemaking facilities, installing new stainless steel tanks and pneumatic presses. New winemaker Jean-Philippe Archambaud has revolutionized the house style since the 2004 vintageThe vineyards have been reworked with the same sustainable vineyard practices utilized in Latour’s 125 acre domain in the Côte d’Or. In addition to high-quality Chablis, Simonnet Febvre offers value-driven Chardon-nays and Pinot Noirs from the Mediterranean coast
Maison Simonnet-Febvre was founded in 1840 by Jean Febvre, a barrel maker by trade from the town of Montbard. In the early days, the house was known for its sparkling Chardonnays from Chablis, known today as Cré-mants de Bourgogne.
The harvest is done manually, followed by traditional fermentation, favoring the balance between seductive fruit-forwardness and supple tannins. The result is both high quality and age-worthy wines. The winery was entirely redesigned in 2003 and was subsequently purchased by Maison Louis Latour in the winter of 2008. Practicing sustainable viticulture and non-carbonic maceration, Henry Fessy has earned many accolades for its Outstanding Value wines.
Based in the heart of Brouilly appellation since 1888, Maison Henry Fessy, the family-owned estate covering 175 acres. The domain offers an entire range of diverse terroirs in all 10 Crus, producing small quantities in each Cru and two 100% estate, single vineyards – Chateau des Reys-siers, Régnie and Chateau des Labourons, Fleurie.
