The Chakras

Nature gave some or other form of defence to every living thing on this earth, you can take the smallestcreature or the largest one, and you will find that every animal is equipped with the requiredIntelligence quotient(IQ) and Emotional Quotient(EQ) to fend for itself in this ever competitive earthplane, particularly those animals which are part of the food chain, even a small snail is having excellentIQ and EQ, and all these animals use these features 24/7.

One animal i.e. Human being (Homo Sapiens Sapiens) is the only living thing which is given thecapacity to play GOD, but unfortunately, he/she is lost in his/her own world, human being had createdhis/her own world, where he/she can play god without any interference from the nature, but is itpossible, human being is placed on top of every food chain and every animal kingdom by nature, it isthe only creature which has spiritual capacity or ability to connect with god or nature, but again it ishidden from him for most part of his/her life and he/she is unaware of this power hidden withinhimself/herself, few lucky one's get a clue from the nature or some Guru, one has to realize thisenergy, but once this power is realized, it can be used in a very positive way for the benefit of theindividual and also the society, but I think the modern society is not yet ready for this kind of energizedhumans, unfortunately some call them Mutants, instead of calling them evolved Humans, so thisknowledge had remained locked in deep psyche of mystics in India and elsewhere, only few could talkopenly, like Swami Sivananda Ji Maharaj.

The modern(material) world is kind of dog eat dog world, everyone had to kiss some one else's shoe, noone is free from this vicious cycle, and very funny thing is, it is taught as a skill by all, liked by all, andpropagated by all with out remorse or shame, in a way every one waits for their turn to sit on the topwhere others would kiss his/her shoe, and this is the ultimate dream almost every human in this modernworld has, be it India or any Western country, it does not stop, and most of them feel very proud andblessed by kissing other's shoe, if this is done not for material gain or fame or fortune or to share publicfunds, then it is a very beautiful virtue, but unfortunately it is done to appease the guy on the top, because many are not even getting that chance, they have to wait before they get anywhere in the line.this is performed without any guilt or shame and is executed by skills developed and acquired byhuman beings in their own picture, and proudly we all call them as people skills, and if anyone lacksthis tendency, he/she is directed towards psychologists for rectification.

But if you come out of this Man made Picture and try to connect with the larger picture, where themajority part of nature is in play, you will find this people skills of almost no use, we humans are givenwith such a beautiful advantage over remaining entities of the nature, it is like nature had awarded uswith its duties, to play nature, but we have completely forgotten that we are part of this nature, insteadwe are so busy creating our own picture, which has no place for any other animal, except in Zoologicalparks, few of them have gone little ahead, they want to create a picture where there is no place foranyone who does not look like them, or are not similar to them physically.

Let us see what nature had given us:

First thing that comes to any one's mind is Brain, then it's ability to use natural resources, ability tocreate artificial appendages, and of course using all these we have created our own picture, in which wedo not allow any other living thing to move freely. Many humans believe that we do not have anyinstinct, or ability to grasp the changes in nature way in advance, like most animals do, and manyhumans do not accept the fact that there is a force which guards this earth and maintains a balance, theythink this earth and its resources are meant for their use only, few have gone little further, theseadvanced humans think that the resources of this earth belong only to their tribe and no one else. theyhave completely forgotten that every human or for that matter every living thing on this earth has a role

to play and has a equal right to share the available resources.

If a human is seen in the larger canvas i.e. Nature, it has an advantage of highly developed uprightspine and an excellent balancing instrument to keep it in balance on two feet's, no other animal canactually match this ability, the upright spine is connected to a very advanced and recent brain, thisbrain had already shown its wonders, but still it is in his/her own world, this achievement isminusculewhen you see the time and size of universe, had we used our other hidden features, may bewe could have achieved many folds than this, but for this we have to stick to the main picture i.e.nature, which would also mean we have to respect every living thing on this earth plane for its spaceand resources.

What are these hidden features, well if you see the animals, they live and survive only because they arein danger almost 24/7, so their senses are maintained and updated to the best and kept recent, but incase of humans this department suffers like it is infected withperennial cold, many of us can't even hearproperly not because we lack the ability but because we are so much lost in our picture that we do nothave time to look around, or to check if any dangers are lurking around, so the end result is we getkilled like vegetables, the senses are used for entertainment and other requirements for maintaining orcreating our own picture.

The next thing is our mind, which has the capacity to interact with the nature not for mere survival butfor maintaining it, but we have turned our mind in a uncontrollable, most spoiled brat and we havepampered this brat so much that it does not listen to us any more, instead we listen to it, mind needssame attention as a kid needs to grow up in to a mature and responsible individual, many adults aresoobsessed satisfying this spoiled brat that they do not have time to even think about nature, so,physically they might have counted 60 winters but mentally the mind remains a spoiled child, how tocontrol this brat and keep it in your control, I have given a brief description in Mysticism Part I, onceyour mind is in control and it is no longer a brat, but it is a empty container where only one thingresonates or echo's, Aum...Aum...Aum.

Let us see what else the nature has given us, the Upanishads mention about the nadi's, nadi's are subtlechannels through which the prana or the life force flows, there are total of 72,000 nadi's and out of main14 nadi's, three are most important, Shushmana, Ida and Pingala, the main nadi is called Shushmananadi, it connects the Brahmadvara with the Brahmarandhra, where lord Shiva resides in his abode, deepin meditation, unconcerned, unmanifested, this nadi is a secret tunnel connected to the master of thisnature, next to this is two secondary nadi's Pingala and Ida, Pingala connects the right nostril with theMuladhara chakra, and Ida nadi connects the left nostril with the Muladhara chakra, so the three Nadi'sShushmana, Pingala, and Ida unite at two points, one at the Muladhara chakra, the point is called YuktaTriveni (Trois Riviere), Shakti resides here, the sole cause for all creation, this place is between theAnus and the sexual organs, in males it is a clear flat area, but in females it is occupied by female Yoni, this is the place where the energy is hidden, it lie's there like a coiled three and half circles around theSwayambu linga at the base of the spine i.e. the kundalini, the serpentine power or energy and it closesthe Brahmadvara with its head and holds its tail in its mouth, it remains dormant, unmanifested, this isthe status of unawakened kundalini energy, to awaken it, one has to practice Pranayama and KundaliniYoga regularly.

The three nadi's unite behind the bridge between the two eyes, near the third eye, the Ajna chakra, alsocalled as Mukta Triveni (Trois Riviere) after this point only Shushmana nadi travels upwards up to theShasrara chakra.

What are we doing with this energy?, this is nothing but your sexual energy, this sexual energy can beused at two levels, one at the physical level and the second one is at the Astral level. If this energy is used physically, the primary purpose is it helps in reproduction, but most humans areneck deep in its secondary purpose, i.e. pleasure, this in fact gives you pleasure, if indulged regularly, itcauses exhaustion, and a lot of food is necessary to convert the blood into this energy, in males it is

Page 3: Manas Vidya_ The Chakras.pdf

seminal fluid and in women it is vaginal fluid, it is like a tap, if left open, it would run till the tanks areempty, then again it is vicious, it does not end. but if human being turns off this tap and try to retain theenergy, this is the third and most important purpose, to elevate this energy to the higher levels in theAstral plane through various Chakras, after some time, if there is no outward direction for this fluid, it isprocessed back into the blood stream and is directed into the shushmana nadi, but as this section is alsoconnected to the other two nadi's Pingala and Ida, the redirected energy is bound to flow in them also.

The problem starts here, imagine that a human had lived a normal family life for 40 50 years and thenthis process is initiated, his nadi's will be like a clogged sewage line, it would need a great deal to cleanthem up, but in the same situation if the native had practiced celibacy since his youthful years, which afoundation for longevity, the nadi's will be much more cleaner, but both ways the nadi's will have to becleaned of all the junk through your only upward outlet, i.e. your nose, because this is the only otherpoint where all the three nadi's unite, for some time people involved in this process will experienceuncomfortable secretions through their noses and it needs to be cleaned very regularly, the native mightalso experience various types of aroma flowing through his nose, but after some time once everything isout, the nadi's are clean and empty from bottom to top, the breath will be very relaxing and huge, theoxygen content will drastically increase, the aroma of the breath will be very comfortable, coldinfections will be almost negligible, probably this is the reason, why Sigmund Freud had suggestedthat if you manipulate this part of the nostril the flow is redirected towards the sexual side and thehuman will have more sexual libido, and he underwent some surgical procedure, but I think he missedone point here, that is, once the flow is directed upwards, it no longer remains sexual, to increase thesexual libido, one has to keep the tap open and condition his/her mind focused on some fantasy.

Now that we know that the body has nadi's, which channel the energy, but the ultimate purpose is tosend it upwards towards the Brahmarandhra, towards Sahasrara chakra present at the tip of the head, butit is not possible to send it like water through a pipe, the Kundalini energy needs to be tuned in to thisdirection by tuning it through various chakras present between the base of the spine and the tip of thehead. one very important point is if someone tries to cut open a human body and tries to find thesechakras, they will not find them as these are present in the ethereal body or the Astral body, these aresubtle, ethereal psychic energy centres.

Swami Sivananda maharaj said if the Kundalini energy reaches the Sahasrara chakra, no doubt it is agreat feat in itself but the most important thing is to sustain it there, to keep it in that position and it isnot possible with out the help of other chakras. Fig C2 shows various chakras and their positions.

1. Muladhara chakra, 1st chakra or the base chakra present near the base of spine.

Page 4: Manas Vidya_ The Chakras.pdf

2. Svadhisthana chakra, 2nd chakra is present between the navel and the Muladharachakra.

3. Manipuri chakra, 3rd chakra is present near the navel.

4. Anahata chakra, 4th chakra is present near the base of the sternum, or near theheart.

5. Vishuddha chakra, 5th chakra,is present in the throat, near the thyroid glands.6. Ajna chakra, 6th chakra is present near the peneal gland, the third eye.7. Sahasrara chakra is present as a 1000 petals lotus hanging downwards from theBrahmarandhra.

Between Ajna chakra and Shasrara chakra, there are two minor chakras, Manas chakra and Somachakra. the time and efforts needed to reach the Ajna chakra from Muladhara chakra is at one level andthe time and efforts needed to reach the Shasrara chakra from Ajna chakra is at a different level and ismore difficult to sustain, but once the native acheives this, Swami Sivananda maharaj says , the nativeis blessed with all the divine powers, all Shiddhis and Riddhis( minor powers) roll under his feet, hecan command the nature, he can command the five elements, his glory is indescribable. Fig C1Awakened kundalini power and the subtle awakened auras of the various chakras.

I will cover each Chakra in detail with my own drawings, I have tried to demystify the drawings andhave shown them as mere physical apertures or wheels of aura, but in reality they are subtle, ethereal, fine psychic energy currents, present in the astral body.

Muladhara Chakra ( Base Chakra)

Aum Shri Gurave NamaH!

In my Previous post, Chakras, I have given the general account about these beautiful, subtle, invisible, non material, nerve centres or energy centres present in the Astral body of each and every human being,One can visualize like a key chain with three leaves cut like a human body, one is your physical bodywhich is visible and second is the Astral body and the thrid is called the causal body, pull themtogether it is one body, separate them you will feel three.Fig C1, Shows various Chakras and theirpositions in the Astral body.

Fig C2 shows various Chakra's and their positions. Awakened State

I have tried to show in a way that what happens to these energy centers when they get activated oropened and when the Kundalini Energy is sustained in them, an ordinary Human being once achievesthis feat his/her Astral Self would expand and be a part of the whole universe, Like Microcosm inMacrocosm and Macrocosm in microcosm, I am playing with words here. basically what I want to sayis that till that point the Human conscious is limited up to his body and his limited surrounding andhappenings, but once he/she crosses this line and he/she connects with everything that was unreal forhim/her, but actually he connects with the reality.

Fig C3: The first and foremost Chakra or the Base Chakra is Muladhara Chakra.

Mula meaning the Base, it is a 4 petal lotus like Chakra, with the Brahmdvara in its center, where the"Shakti" resides, and this Brahmdvara remains closed by the head of the Kundalani, the Serpentinepower, it lays there inactive in three 1/2 coils. this point lies exactly near the end of the spine in the flatarea between the Anus and the Testicles of a Human male.this area is called "Kanda".

The Mandala is EarthThe Zodiac sign is TaurusThe Mantra is Lamn or Lang (ल ) Pronounce it as

LAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaMmmmmmmNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn it should sink in tothe silence of Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

The Endocrine Gland is Prostate, Adrenal. The no of Petals are 4 Parmananda,Yogananda, Virananda and SamajanadaThe Linga positioned here is Swamyambu(Meaning self created)The Vayu or Air here is called Kandarpu VayuThe color of thisChakra is Crimson RedThe area of Knowledge is Unconscious. The Energy is calledKundalini, Dakini Shakti, or just Shakti. The Deity for this Chakra is Lord Ganesha.TheRandhra or opening is Brahma Randhra, and Brahma resides here.

The Purpose of this yoga is to activate the Kundalini (Sanskrit meaning, to lye on the ground in a 3 1/2circles) to reach the top Chakra, Shasrara Chakra, where Lord Shiva resides, so basically it is spiritualmating of Shakti (Female) with Shiva (Male).

The Chakra is related with, ability to live as a human being, ability to survive in this world, since everyone comes here alone and helpless, the lucky ones then get introduced to the Parents, so this Chakraremains open and active and functioning in an infant, because it gives the energy and push to live, survive and learn, if this trait is kept in an continuous flow, the Chakra is bound to remain openthrough his/her life, but this trait stops and it happens with the majority, because they depend a lot ontheir parents and go through a phase where they get immense security, protection and stability, as aperson starts to gain independence the Chakra opens and vibrates to extend the required energy toallow the person stand on his/her feet, so in a way all those people who live a independent life, earn, raise a family, support their kids this Chakra is open in a very physical sense, but it has Spiritual sidealso which is more important, which connects the physical side with the inner spiritual life. It is like apriest who worships daily with heart connected elsewhere so would lack divine connection, or it is likea telephone which is good and the carbon vibrators are good, but it is not connected to any telephonecompany, once connected to the divine energy the psychic energies manifest, and this is not possible

Page 7: Manas Vidya_ The Chakras.pdf

with out the help of the eternal energy or superior energy or simply GOD.

To activate this Chakra there are many ways, to tune, make the physical body flexible one can do, ShirsAsan, i.e. Fig C4A, SarvangAsan, Fig C4 B, and Hal Asan Fig C4C

,

This Asan is Sukha Asan, which is simple Siddhasana, the actual Siddhasana requires one to keep theankle of one leg close to the anus and the ankle of the other leg resting on it, or just crossing it like in asukha Asan, like I have tried to show in my drawings. The name Siddha itself suggests that this Asan isfor the purpose of realizing Siddhis or Spiritual Powers.

This is the actual purpose of this Yoga to connect spiritually with the divine, to activate the KundaliniEnergy and push it towards the 7th Chakra, Shasrara Chakra, and again please note, do not put physicalefforts here, because it is not physical entity, once GOD extends his grace, things manifestautomatically, so one needs to wait for that god's grace to shower upon you, I know it sounds verydisheartening, but it is like this, had it been a physical thing, everyone would have been a Psychic, butreality tells us it is not, few very lucky people based on their past Karma, take birth with this Chakrasopen and functional and they have this Psychic powers etc, like by birth, but dear folks for the majoritypopulation, one will have to sweat it out.

You need to see more how? go to www.bandhayoga.com keys_access2.html, this site infact shows allthe anatomical side of this yoga, it is good to see them, then go to www.kundaliniyoga.org/index.html,it seems Shri Guru Bhajan brought this Kundalini Yoga to the West in 1969, but it appears his touch ismostly based on Sikh religion, well the purpose is same, then go to this interesting site of Mr AnmolMehta (US based) he is extending free Online Kundalini Yoga lessons, www.anmolmehta.com/, hereyou can watch him in his free videos actually do the Pranayama and other Asans and warmingexcercise's.

This is one way, like to reach GOD, one can follow any religion, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam,Hebrew, Buddhism, Jainism, etc etc. but the purpose is one, to realize the almighty, likewise whether itis Jnana Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, or Bhakti Yoga, purpose is one to activate this energy so thatone can experience the spiritual connection. Please try to understand this unless until you experience ityourself, you will never understand, no matter how many people show you or write millions andmillions of words to explain it, it is a very personal experience.

Like I remember the first time when someone got married in our group, everyone was curious to knowhow it was to make love, but the fellow who got married would not talk about it, obviously he wantedto keep it personal, he would just say, it is not for you children, though he was our age. so it is exactlylike it.Now here one needs to have lots of patience, because first you will have to stabilize the Bija Mantra forthe first Chakra, which is Lang (ल )and please take note that this is a vibration so start slowly and taketime to sink in to the nnnnnnn part of the Mantra.

There are four more Akshara Mantra for the four petals of the Chakra, see the Fig C3, I would suggesteveryone interested to learn the Alphabets of Devanagari (Hindi or Sanskrit) then it would becomevery easy to chant these Mantras, otherwise you will get stuck with the pronunciation of the Alphabets, then the correct way to say them and then chant the Mantra in a Mala.

Swami Sivananda says:

The MULADHARA CHAKRA is situated between the root of the reproductive organ andthe anus at the base of the spinal column. It is here, as I have already mentioned, thatthe two Nadis, Ida and Pingala, meet the Sushumna. The Muladhara Chakra is twofingers above the anus and two fingers below the genitals and four fingers in width. Ithas four petals of crimson hue. In the pericarp of this Chakra there is a beautifultriangle in which the sleeping Kundalini of the form of a coiledup serpent dwells. Sheholds her tail in her mouth and covers the mouth of the Brahmadvara (the gateway tothe Seat of Brahman) with her head. The Yogi who concentrates on the MuladharaChakra gets full knowledge of the Kundalini and the various means to rouse it toaction. As soon as the Kundalini is roused, the Yogi gets the power to rise up above theground. He gets full control over his breath, mind and semen. His Prana flows throughthe Sushumna and all his sins aredestroyed. He gets knowledge of the past, present andfuture. He is immensely happy.

The drawing of the Chakra, lot of people have tried to draw with all that mystic colors and curves andthings like that, I have tried to keep it simple as per Swami Sivananda Maharaj's explanation.

Basically every time you explain anything it comes to the bottom line, the Mind, Body and Soul intandem and all this package connected with the Purusha.

And please if you find any spelling mistakes, bear with it, the "ABC" icon in the menu sometimes itworks and mostly it remain dormant like the Kundalini Serpentine power.

Imagine this Chakra as a cap which covers the Brahma randhra, the soft spot on the head of thenew born babies, slowly this area gets covered by growth of bones of head, when elders kiss thisspot of children, both are blessed.

The awakened Chakra has its petals upwards and the petals of a chakra at rest aredownwards. Only Sushumna Nadi reaches this Chakra.

The Zodiac sign is Capricorn/Pisces.

The Mantra is AUM, Pronounce it asOoooooooooooooaaaaaaaaammmmmmmm.

The Endocrine Glands connected is Pineal gland, melatonin photoreceptors,The noof Petals are 1000, which are 1000 yoga nadis which appear like petals and eachpetal vibrates with the sound of alphabets of Sanskrit, 50 letters are repeated tillthey finish all the 1000 petals. The space in this chakra is Round, The color of thisChakra is white. The area of Knowledge is SuperConscious. The Deity for thisChakra is Shiva, Lord Shiva resides here and Shakti has to reach him and Shakti isKundalini Shakti. The Loka is Satya Loka.

Swami Sivananda Maharaj Said:

The SAHASRARA CHAKRA is the thousandpetalled lotus at the top of the headand is theAbode of Lord Siva. When the Kundalini is awakened, it pierces oneChakra after another andfinally unites with Lord Siva and enjoys the HighestBliss. Now the Yogi attains super conscious state and becomes a fullblown Jnani. He drinks the Nectar of Immortality. When the Kundalini is awakened, it does notdirectly proceed all at once to the SahasraraChakra. You will have to take it fromone Chakra to another. You will certainly live even after it is taken to theSahasrara. But remember that even after it is taken to the Sahasrara, it may dropdown to the Muladhara at any moment! Only when you are firmly established inSamadhi, when you have attained Kaivalya, the

Kundalini cannot and does not drop down.

Do your Sadhana with patience, perseverance, cheerfulness and courage, till you getthe Nirvikalpa Samadhi.

It is easy to awaken the Kundalini, but it is very difficult to take it up to the navel, to theAjnaChakra, and thence to the Sahasrara in the head. It demands a great deal of patience andpersistence on the part of the practitioner. But there is nothing impossible for a man ofdetermination and ironwill. That Yogi who has taken the Kundalini to the Sahasrara is the realmaster of the forces of Nature. Generally Yogic students abandon their Sadhana on account offalse satisfaction. They foolishly imagine that they have reached the goal, when they get somemystic experiences and powers. This is a mistake. Complete Asamprajnata Samadhi (NirvikalpaSamadhi) alone can give final emancipation.

BRAHMARANDHRA

“Brahmarandhra” means the hole of Brahman. It is the dwelling house of the human soul.

This is also known as “Dasamadvara,” the tenth opening or the tenth door. The hollow place inthe crown of the head known as anterior fontanelle in the newborn child is the Brahmarandhra. This is between the two parietal and occipital bones. This portion is very soft in a baby. Whenthe child grows, it gets obliterated by the growth of the bones of the head. Brahma created thephysical body and entered (Pravishat) the body to give illumination inside through thisBrahmarandhra. In some of the Upanishads, it is stated like that. This is the most important part.It is very suitable for Nirguna Dhyana (abstract meditation). When the Yogi separates himselffrom the physical body at the time of death, this Brahmarandhra bursts open and Prana comes outthrough this opening (Kapala Moksha). “A hundred and one are the nerves of the heart. Of themone (Sushumna) has gone out piercing the head; going up through it, one attains immortality”(Kathopanishad).

Yin and Yang How we Perceive

Sahasrara Chakra is the abode of Lord Siva. This corresponds to Satya Loka. This is situatedat the crown of the head. When Kundalini is united with Lord Siva at the Sahasrara Chakra, theYogi enjoys the Supreme Bliss, Parama Ananda. When Kundalini is taken to this centre, the Yogiattains the superconscious state and the Highest Knowledge. He becomes a Brahmavidvarishthaor a fullblown Jnani.

The word SahasradalaPadma denotes that this Padma has 1000 petals. That is, onethousand Yoga Nadis emanate from this centre. There are different opinions about the exact

number of petals. It is quite sufficient if you know that innumerable Nadis proceed from thiscentre. As in the case of other Chakras, the vibrations that are made by the Yoga Nadis are representedby the Sanskrit letters.

All the 50 letters of the Sanskrit alphabet are repeated here again and again on all Yoga Nadis. This is a Sukshma centre. The corresponding centre in the physical body is in the brain. The term“ShatChakras” refers only to the chief six Chakras, viz., Muladhara, Svadhishthana, Manipura,Anahata, Vishuddha and Ajna. Above all these we have Sahasrara Chakra. This is the chief of allthe Chakras. All the Chakras have their intimate connection with this centre. Hence this is notincluded as one among the ShatChakras. This is situated above all the Chakras

Only Yoga is not enough to attain this feat, Develop virtues like generosity, forgiveness and soforth. Mere Yogic Kriyas alone will not help you much. Do selfanalysis and eradicate your faultsand evil habits. Rectify your defects like selfishness, pride, jealousy, hatred, etc. Develop yourheart. Share what you have with others. Do selfless service. Then alone you will get purity ofmind.

Vishuddha Chakra is the stage where the conscious world ends, above this Chakra everything isbeyond the physical world, it is Samadhi stage.

The Sixth Chakra, the Ajna Chakra Fig A

The awakened Chakra has its petals upwards and the petals of a chakra at rest are downwards. The two tube kind of things are actually Sushumna nadi, and Ida and Pingala join the Sushumnanadi here, though I have tried to show them like they are physical entity, but they are not physicalentities.

How we Perceive

In his Pdf document Kundalini Yoga says:

Vishuddha Chakra is situated within the Sushumna Nadi at the base of the throat, KanthaMulaSthana. This corresponds to Janar Loka. It is the centre of Akasa Tattva (ether element). TheTattva is of pure blue colour. Above this, all other Chakras belong to Manas Tattva.

The presiding deity is Sadasiva (Isvara Linga), and the Goddess is Shakini. From thiscentre emanate 16 Yoga Nadis which appear like the petals of a lotus. The vibrations that areproduced by the Nadis are represented by the 16 vowels of Sanskrit, as given above. AkasaMandal (the region of ether) is round in shape like the full moon. The Bija of Akasa Tattva Hangis in this centre. It is of white colour. This Chakra corresponds to Laryngeal plexus in thephysical body.

The concentration on the Tattva of this Chakra is called Akasa Dharana. He who practises thisDharana will not perish even in Pralaya. He attains the highest success. He gets the fullknowledge of the four Vedas by meditating on this Chakra. He becomes a Trikala Jnani (whoknows the past, the present and the future).

And we already know that during dream state the Prana resides in the throat, and the possiblereason why during dreaming state we (Mind) are able to move from Past to future events.

The Anahata sound, the sound of Shabdabrahman, isheard at this centre. You can clearly hear this sound if you concentrate silently at this lotus. He

who concentrates on this Chakra gets full control over air. He can fly in the air, enter the body ofanother and become prosperous. He becomes wise and does only noble deeds. He gets cosmiclove and all other divine virtues.

In his Pdf document Kundalini Yoga says: Anahata Chakra is situated in the Sushumna Nadi (Sukshma centre). It has control over the

heart. It corresponds to the Cardiac Plexus in the physical body. This corresponds to MaharLoka. The Chakra is of deep red colour. Within this Chakra there is a hexagonal space of smoke ordeep black colour or the colour of collyrium (used for the eyes). This chakra is the centre of VayuMandal (region of air, Vayu Tattva). From here 12 Yoga Nadis emanate. The sound that isproduced by each Nadi is represented by the following Sanskrit letters (Fig A)The BijaksharaYamn, the Bija of Vayu, is here. The presiding deity is Isha (Rudra) and Devata is Kakini. In theMuladhara Chakra there is Svayambhu Linga and in Anahata Chakra we have Bana Linga.

Kalpa Vriksha, which gives all the desired things, is here. Anahata sound, the sound of ShabdaBrahman, is heard at this centre. When you do Sirshasana for a long time, you can distinctly hearthis sound. Vayu Tattva is full of Sattva Guna. Vishnu Granthi is in this Sthana. Some peoplewhen they hear the Anahata sounds, they might think "Your heart is making crazy sounds", Hewho meditates on this Chakra has full control over Vayu Tattva. He gets Bhuchari Siddhi,Khechari Siddhi, Kaya Siddhi, etc., (flying in air, entering the body of another). He gets cosmiclove and all other divine Sattvic qualities. Do not think this way, If Human was supposed to flyhe is supposed to have wings like birds, No, flying is a relative term, Body Mass, size, Gravityand Air buoyance etc.

Anahata soundsAnahata sounds are the mystic sounds heard by the Yogin during his meditation. It is a sign

of the purification of Nadis. Some students can clearly hear it through any one of the ears andsome by both the ears. There are loud as well as subtle sounds. From the loud, one will have tocontemplate on the subtle and from the subtle to the subtler. Beginners can hear the sound onlywhen the ears are closed. Advanced students can concentrate on the Anahata sound even withoutclosing the ears. Anahata sound is also termed Omkara Dhvani. They proceed from the Anahatacentre of the Sushumna Nadi.

Sit in your usual Asana. Close the ears with the thumbs. Hear and minutely observe theinternal sound through the ears. The sound that you hear from within will make you deaf to allexternal sounds. Close the eyes also. In the beginning of your practice, you will hear many loudsounds. Later on they are heard in a mild way. The mind having at first concentrated itself on anyone sound fixes firmly to that and is absorbed in it. The mind becoming insensible to the externalimpressions, becomes one with the sound as milk with water and then becomes rapidly absorbedin Chidakasa. Just as the bee drinking the honey alone does not care for the odour so also theChitta, which is always absorbed in the inner sound, does not long for sensual objects, as it isbound by the sweet smell or Nada and has abandoned its flitting nature.

The sound proceeding from Pranava Nada, which is Brahman, is of the nature of effulgence.

The mind gets absorbed in it. The mind exists so long as there is sound, but with its cessation, there is that state termed Turiya. It is the supreme state. It is the Unmani state. The mind getsabsorbed along with Prana by constant concentration upon Nada. The body appears to be a log ofwood and it does not feel heat or cold, joy or sorrow. Different kinds of sounds proceed from theheart (Anahata sounds).Nada that is heard through the ears is of ten kinds. The first is the sound ‘Chini’ (likethepronunciation of the word); the second is ‘Chinichini’; the third is the sound of a bell; thefourth is that of a conch; the fifth is that of a lute; the sixth is the sound of cymbals; the seventhis the tune of a flute; the eighth is the voice of a drum (Bheri); the ninth is the sound of a doubledrum (Mridanga); and the tenth is the sound of thunder.

You cannot expect the sound immediately after you close your ears. You should concentrateandkeep your mind onepointed. The particular sound that you hear today, you may not hear everyday. But you will hear any one of the ten Anahata sounds.

The description given above is Laya through Nada, Anahata sound. In the same manner, Laya can be effected by concentration at the tip of the nose (Nasikagra Drishti), at the space

between the two eyebrows (Bhrumadhya Drishti), meditation on the five Tattvas, on Soham Mantra, "Aham Brahma Asmi", Tat Tvam Asi Mahavakyas and other methods also.

During Meditation at this Chakra, many faces of your Ista devata or Gods will emerge in yourinner picture screen, they are not illusions of your mind, these are as real as you and me.

Just carry on with the "AUM", Manta or your personal Mantra and generally one is not supposedto reveal your personal Mantra to anyone, I tried to search few sites which helps you to get one,it is basically your Istadevata, Planet in 12th house from your Atmakaraka in your Navamsa (D9) chart gives you an idea of your IstaDevata ( Ista = Liking, Devata = God).

Some time back I did see that Deepak Chopra's official website also extends this service, all youhave to tell them is your date of birth, but it is OK, just chant Aum.Very physical manifestation of this Chakra functioning at a physical level is your hunger anddigestion will regulate.

There is this site http://www.eclecticenergies.com/chakras/chakratest.php where you can answer few questions it tells you if your Chakrais Open and If open at what %, it is good way of finding out but I am not comfortable with the word Overactive, because nothing isoveractive, the Chakra is supposed to be 100% open then only the Kundalini energy can flow freely towards the

There is another site http://www.chakraenergy.com/ here too you can test if your chakra is open or not.Other Interesting sites are :http://www.kheper.net/topics/chakras/chakras.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chakrahttp://www.sacredcenters.com/chakras.htmlhttp://www.healer.ch/Chakrase.html

Basically all these sites deal with the natural effects due to these chakras but none of them actually deal with the supernatural effectsfrom these chakras, like it is detailed by Shri Sivanada Maharaj, because when people who study a lot and almost understand everything, they also perform various Yoga Asanas and even after that they do not feel the ultimate effect due to these Chakras, but all the hard workdoesn't go waste, the mere opening of Chakras extend all those effects which are detailed out in these sites, which are very natural andhave nothing to do with the Kundalini Energy or the Serpentine power.

I know when a person reads all these the first impression is not to believe and if that person happens to be from westernised west(Because Easternized West is also there) then there is no doubt, he will ask a doctor, or a person who works in a morgue or whoperforms postmortems, did you ever see these things in a human body, and the answer is always NO, again the question to such a personis did you ever See a remote signal, and the answer is always NO. :)) Yes we do not have physical mechanisms to measure many things, like no of taste buds, no of smell buds, quantum of sense of taste and smell, it is limited to the feeling of the person only, a personlacking this kind of sense can only tell If he can smell or not, Feeling with Chakras is also similar, only the person can tell if he feelssomething happening in his back or not a tingling sensation when these chakras are open and the kundalini energy, the serpentine powerflows though it, and when it reaches the Shasrara chakra, it yet another feeling, but in initial sessions, the feeling subsides very fast, only after a long time, one can feel that it stays put, yes it definitely needs time and patience and lots of personal observations.

I am not sure If women also can get this attenuation like men, because when it comes to spirituality, Men are gifted and for women, it isalways men who are the medium to attain that levels of spirituality, hence, in India it is given lots of value and importance that a womenworship her husband with out guilt and doubt ( Called as Pati Vrata Dharma), it doesn't matter how her husband looks or what kind ofcharacter he has and how much he earns.

Well I know the modern liberated women would not like a single word I have written, but what I am talking about is for spiritual growthand ultimate liberation and not for a successful executive life. One more point about these Chakras is many people have tried to demystify them by saying that they are just centres of nerves and ifopen they give a better life and they should be only 50% open, if they are open more then 50% then it is overactive etc hence thequestionaire to see if they are open or not.But all this does not go well with the purpose of Chakras and why they should be open and how one can check if they are open, there isa very subtle way to find out if they are full open or not, again for this purpose one has to go deep into your inner world. I would saythis is beyond the scope of this level. :
