3pm
Our School Captains, Lani MacMunn and
James Reid are travelling to a special Anzac
Day service with Mansfield Legacy to visit
The Shrine of Rememberance in Melbourne to
lay a wreath on our school behalf. They will be
a part of a team of students from our district
who will represent our town. I know they will
be outstanding ambassadors for our school.
There is much excitement among our Grade 5
students. Next week they head off on their
long awaited camp. Fingers crossed that the
weather remains warm.
Many of our Grade 3 and 4’s have been busy
fine tuning their vocal chords as they are
singing in the ANZAC choir. Many thanks to
Mrs. Sketcher who always does an amazing
job at preparing our students for this special
occasion.
Today the Grade 1-2 students had a tour of
our local museum. Marlene and Bruce Bingham
explained the history of Mansfield to the
children. They then walked to the memorial
gates where they read and discussed the war
plaques. I’m sure they will be full of
information around the dinner table.
Our beautiful Prep children have already
come so far in one term. I was admiring their
writing skills this week. Watching children
develop the process of writing is incredibly
exciting. Their eagerness to learn and the
excitement in their eyes when they have
finally formed a word, is a magical moment.
Our school is incredibly special. We are so
fortunate to have gorgeous
students, happy, dedicated
staff and supportive,
friendly parents. It’s a
pleasure to be a part of our
school community.

Monday 25th April
is Anzac Day
public holiday.
ACTING PRINCIPALS REPORT
As Mr. V enjoys his well-earned time with
his family to celebrate his son’s marriage
and entertain the extended London family, I
have had the privilege of stepping into his
shoes for the past week.
Term 2 has begun with a buzz in the air. The
Grade 6 Media Team have been busy working
with Helen Crockett and Karen Lewis.
Together they are creating a display board
which depicts life at Mansfield Primary
School. The board will be sent to our sister
school, Vatohaco in Venilale. Billy Leatham is
sharing her photography expertise with the
students, so we are expecting to see some
amazing photographs.
CANTEEN
Please ensure you use the correct price list when ordering from
the BP Roadhouse. The new price list has a slight increase on
some items and was distributed last term to all families.
HELPERS REQUIRED
We still require 2 volunteers to assist on a Monday or Friday
with either collating and ordering the canteen orders or the
collecting of the lunches from the BP Mansfield 1pm and
delivering them to school. If you can help in any way please
contact the school office or Kerryn Friday on: 0438 301 075.
BIKE THEFT
Last Friday a bike located in the bike rack has two bullet covers
removed from his bike wheel during the day. One is red and the
other black. They look like a small rocket and are put on wheels
to protect the tyre from going flat. If you can help us with this
enquiry please see Julie McInnes at school.
HEADLICE
We have had quite a few reports of headlice
already this term. Can you please ensure you
regularly check and treat your child’s hair if
needed to help the spread of these tough
little critters. See page 5 for additional
information.
UNIFORM SHOP
We are currently running the uniform shop from the St. John’s
building. Thank you to Shona Angel and Diane Burton who
helped sort out all the uniform in to some order.
Thank you to Diane Burton who has collected the clothes in the
lost property and washed items that are now for sale in the
uniform shop. All named items were returned to the owners.
The uniform shop is also happy to sell any items of school
uniform that you may wish to sell. Please ensure that you label
and price the items together with your contact number and
they will be displayed for sale.
SAFETY
Please do not use the back gate near the Art Room for dropping
or collecting children from school. This area is to be used by
staff only.

SINCERE THANK YOU
On Behalf of the P&F and MPS we would like to
thank the Mansfield Community Fund for their
generous support last year to our literacy program.
The generous donation of $5000 combined with the
money raised by the students from the walkathon
helped to purchase books, reading class sets and
other resources all for literacy.
THANK YOU MANSFIELD COMMUNITY FUND.
Community Links Team On the 22nd March the Community Links Team, Hayley Cotterill (Captain), Helena Medcraft, Bella Green and Charli Cooper took a trip to the Mansfield Courier. We interviewed staff to find out about the Couriers role in the community as well as how the newspaper is made. Here’s what we found out… As we walked in there was a cabinet containing many trophies such as photo awards and best produced newspaper, these awards indicate the caliber of our local paper. In the news paper there is an average of 80 articles. It’s a 48 page paper. The articles take about half an hour to write each depending on what the article is about. The newspaper is made in Mansfield and printed in Wangarratta. The more tourists in town means there is more to write about. One of the most common places the courier sources their stories are from the council. They also have loads of stories from the hospital, schools, rotary and lots of other places. The newspaper sometimes asks people if they have stories too. An important role of the newspaper is to connect people who can’t get out into the community and help them feel part of the community. The Community Links Team would like to thank Mrs McInnes and the Courier for giving us the opportunity to learn more about our community. We are heading to the Police Station next term. NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST BULLYING AND VIOLENCE Last term our students, along with more than 900,000 other students from over 2000 schools, participated in the sixth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence and 'took a stand together'. As part of the day, Zooper Doopers and wrist bands were handed out and we had computers set up at lunch time, where students made an anti-bullying avatar and posted it online which could be read by other students around the country. A special whole school assembly was held in the Nobian Place, where the students sung the Respect Song that they’d been rehearsing, as well as us hosting an interactive game show. A lot of parents/guardians and community members came along and joined us on this special assembly and helped us ‘take a stand together’ against bullying and violence. We want to thank Mrs Sketcher for her help with the song and the amazing job she did at the assembly. We hope that everyone enjoyed the day and was able to take away the message that bullying is not nice and not acceptable. Thanks also to everyone who participated on the day. A special thanks to all the parents, guardians and community members who came along to this very important day. Cameron Hotton Community Liason Officer
