  • VACUUM GAUGE Setup and Operating Instructions

This instruction sheet primarily covers the set up and use of the parts supplied in the Digital and Analog Vacuum Gauges for use with the Pylon AB6 monitor and active cell detectors. Due to the wide variety of applications and scenarios, not all measurement situations can be covered by this instruction sheet. The purpose of this instruction sheet is to provide gen-eral information on the use of these gauges during the radon measurement process. The User should take the concepts provided herein and make the appropriate changes to apply the concepts to their particular application. This instruction manual does not provide details of any Com-mercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products included in the kit. For the COTS products, refer to the instructions provided by the manufacturer and included with the kit for information on the product specifications, limitations, warnings, etc.

DIGITAL VACUUM GAUGE The digital vacuum gauge is used to measure the vacuum that is applied to the active cell in order to obtain a vacuum grab sample. It may also be used to monitor the air tightness of the cell. Active cell leaks will affect the measurement. COMPONENTS The digital vacuum gauge consists of the following items:

    ANALOG VACUUM GAUGE

The analog vacuum gauge is used to measure the vacuum that is applied to the active cell in order to obtain a vacuum grab sample. It may also be used to monitor the air tightness of the cell. Active cell leaks will affect the measurement. COMPONENTS The analog vacuum gauge consists of the following items:

SETUP Figure 1 provides a diagram showing the setup of the vacuum gauge with an active cell.

OPERATION - ELECTRIC VACUUM PUMPS Turn on the electric vacuum pump. Monitor the vacuum gauge. When the vacuum reaches 91.4 kPa (27" Hg), turn the pump off. Disconnect the pump and vacuum gauge. The cell is ready to be used to obtain a vacuum grab sample. OPERATION - HAND VACUUM PUMPS Pump the hand vacuum pump. Monitor the vacuum gauge. When the vacuum reaches 91.4 kPa (27" Hg), stop pumping. Disconnect the pump and vacuum gauge. The cell is ready to be used to obtain a vacuum grab sample. MAINTENANCE The gauges should be calibrated at regular intervals in accor-dance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
