Ronald J. O’Malley has been named F. Kenneth Iverson Endowed Chair of Steelmaking Technologies, and Director of the Kent D. Peaslee Steel Manufacturing Research Center. Dr. O’Malley received B.S. and M.S. degrees in materials engineering from Drexel University in 1978, and a Ph.D. in metallurgy from the Mas- sachuses Instute of Technology in 1983. Dr. O’Malley is currently serving as the Connuous Casng Commiee Chair and was the Conference Planning Commiee chair for AISTech 2013, chair for the Materials Advantage Commiee for 2013 and is a lecturer for the AIST short courses “Connuous Casng — A Praccal Training Seminar” and “The Making, Shaping and Treang of Steel.” He has previously served on the AIST board of directors as liaison for the CCTC and the Ladle & Refining Technology Commiee. He is also cur- rently serving on the selecon commiee for the FeMET and StEEL stu- dent scholarships and the se-lecon commiee for the Ellio Lecture- ship Award. The F. Kenneth Iverson Chair of Steelmaking Technologies was endowed by a giſt from Nucor in 2009 to support the educaon and training of student engineers in areas of steel-related manufacturing. The Steel Manufacturing Research Center (PSMRC) is a university/industry re- search consorum founded by Dr. Kent Peaslee to advance steel re- search in areas pernent to industrial manufacturers. Nucor Corporaon shared this senment: “We congratulate Ron on his appointment as the Iverson Chair of Steelmaking Technologies. Ron has been an incredible teammate and made many valuable contribuons to our company,” said John Ferriola, Chairman, President and CEO, Nucor Corporaon. “While his departure is a loss for Nucor, we are excited that he will be mentoring the next generaon of steel industry leaders and conducng research that will spur the next wave of innovaon in the steel industry.”
