Together We Can Do This!

!

Today is the first teacher workshop day of the year and there is a lot of energy and excitement in the building! All of the staff members at Maple Avenue are hard at work, preparing to receive students on Wednesday, September 9th (Monday/Wednesday Cohort) and Thursday, September 10th (Tuesday/Thursday Cohort). Over the next week, parents and guardians can expect to receive welcome emails from classroom teachers as well as ongoing communication from the SAU and Maple Avenue administration regarding the start of the school year.

Included in this issue of Cubby’s are links to several informational videos that will help families and students understand some new procedures. Additional information will be coming from grade levels and individual classroom teachers as we approach the first day of school.

Arrival and Dismissal Changes

In order to allow for a safe arrival and dismissal of students, we have made changes to these procedures. Parent drop off will be from 8:30-8:45 a.m. and pick up will be from 2:45-3:00 p.m. We will be using both the large and small driveways. Grades 1, 3 and Ms. Pruneau’s and Mr. Fox’s 4th grade students, and Mrs. Botto’s 2nd grade should be dropped off and picked up in the small driveway. Grade 2 and the fourth grade students in the portable classrooms should be dropped off and picked up in the large driveway. If you have children in different grades, you will drop off and pick up your children at the entrance of the youngest child. Parents and guardians must remain in their cars and in the car line. There is no parking or passing of other cars in line. No students may be dropped off prior to 8:30 a.m. this year.

The buses will be dropping off students beginning at 8:45 a.m. and will pick up students beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the large driveway.

Walking Down the Hallways

Moving around the school building will look a little different this year. In order to allow for social distancing, we have marked hallways with arrows and lines, indicating direction of travel. To watch the video, please copy and paste the link into your browser.

Before and After School Care

This year, the YMCA Allard Center will not be providing on-site before and after school care. The YMCA will continue to offer these services at the Allard Center. Please see the attached information about this program.

Addendum to Parent/Student Handbook

Due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, we have made some adjustments to school procedures in order to meet the health and safety guidelines outlined by the state and the department of education. An addendum to the 2020-21 Maple Avenue Elementary Parent/Student Handbook has been developed, highlighting the changes. This resource will be available on the school webpage under Publications in the near future.

Food Service Changes

This year, breakfast and lunch will be served in classrooms. Meals must be pre-ordered using the Nutrislice app. If you are not able to do this, please contact Maple Avenue’s kitchen staff at 497-3330. More details regarding changes to Food Services will be included in the Parent/Student Handbook addendum.

VIRTUAL LEARNING + ENRICHMENT PROGRAMSThe Discovery Academy of the Y (DAY) is a daily program for students to conduct their remote learning as assigned by their schools with the guidance of YMCA instructors. It’s a supportive alternative to at-home online learning where essential health and safety guidelines are rigorously practiced.

When learning hours are completed, traditional enrichment programs kick into high gear including crafts, STEM, games and various physical activities. Financial assistance is available.

Students should bring their laptop/chromebook, headphones, face mask, water bottle and cold lunch.
