WHY

WE’RE HERE

Our Mission To put Christian principles into practice through

programs that build healthy spirit, mind,

and body for all.

Our Four Core Values Caring – Honesty – Respect – Responsibility

Areas of Focus Youth Development

Healthy Living

Social Responsibility

The Y offers more than programs and services; we

ensure that every individual has access to the

essentials needed to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our fitness classes not only improve someone’s

physical health; they help unleash a new outlook on life.

Our family activities not only bring families together;

they help families stay together.

Our youth programs not only teach children to dribble

or how to swim; they provide kids lifelong lessons like

confidence and teamwork.

The Y, always here for you.

Nurturing the potential of every child and teen

We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can

achieve. That’s why, through the YMCA, millions of youth today are cultivating the values, skills,

and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health, and educational achievement.

Improving our community’s health and well-being

In neighborhoods across Grays Harbor, the YMCA is a leading voice on health and well-being.

The Y brings families closer together, encourages good health, and fosters connections through

fitness, sports, fun and shared interests.

As a result, over 7,000 youth, adults, and families are receiving the support, guidance, and

resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind, and body in

Grays Harbor.

Giving back and providing support to our neighbors

The YMCA has been listening and responding to Grays Harbor’s most critical social needs for over

110 years. Whether developing skills or emotional

well-being through education and training, welcoming and connecting diverse demographic

populations through global services, or preventing chronic disease and building healthier

communities through collaborations with policymakers, the Y fosters the care and respect all

people need and deserve.

EVERYONE

IS WELCOME

We’re proud to ensure that the Y is accessible to everyone, and we never want anyone to be turned away for an inability to pay. Don’t hesitate to ask about financial assistance for programs or membership. We’re happy to help.

For All Program The YMCA of Grays Harbor is for everyone. If you need financial assistance to participate in the YMCA, please contact the front desk and ask about our For All Program. The YMCA of Grays Harbor strives to provide services for any youth, adult, or senior who desires to participate in membership or programs. The YMCA of Grays Harbor believes a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed if recipients contribute to the cost of YMCA involvement. Those not able to pay the membership or program fee may be awarded a scholarship based on the YMCA’s ability to fund the membership or program through the Annual Campaign, Endowment Support, and other funding sources secured by the YMCA. This is done by a sliding fee system and special circumstance requests.

For All Program

Annual Income Qualifications

“The Y has helped me to lose 35lbs. I started

coming to the Y because they offer low-income

assistance and this has helped me to provide

swimming for my son and exercise for me.

This has really made a difference to me for the

stress relief and spiritual enlightenment it has

brought to me and my son’s life. Without the Y

actually caring and offering low-income

assistance, I never would have been able to

feel more physically and mentally fit.”

Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring

Program According to the American Heart Association, more than 80 million Americans have high blood pressure, but less than half have it under control. Research shows that the simple process of checking and recording blood pressure at least twice a month over four months may lower blood pressure in some people with hypertension. In addition, evidence shows that proper nutrition, particularly with a reduction in sodium intake, may help reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressures. The YMCA of Grays Harbor is looking for adults with high blood pressure who could benefit from participating in this program. Benefits include:

• A simple, evidence-based program that may lower blood pressure

• Personalized support from a Y Healthy Heart Ambassador

• Tips for maintaining cardiovascular health • Easy-to-use, portable self-tracking tool • Heart healthy nutrition education seminars

Participants must meet the following criteria to participate in the program:

• Must be at least 18 years old • Must be diagnosed with high blood pressure • Must not have experienced a recent cardiac event • Must not have atrial fibrillation or other

arrhythmias • Must not be at risk for lymphedema

The next 25 members who sign up receive a FREE blood

pressure cuff!

Cost: $10/month

Enhance®Fitness

Moderate-impact classes with high-impact results

Across the country, a growing number of Y associations

offer Enhance®Fitness, an evidence-based group exercise

program for older adults that uses simple, easy-to-learn

movements that motivate individuals (particularly those

with arthritis) to stay active throughout their life.

Here are some of the changes our participants have

noticed:

• More energy

• Better balance

• Increases in upper body and lower body strength

• More flexibility and range of motion

• Better sleep

• More feelings of happiness

• Sense of independence

In addition to the physical benefits, research has shown

that, among older adults who participate in

Enhance®Fitness, health costs were lowered each year by

close to $1,000.

Our aim: To help you feel better

Each class session includes cardiovascular, strength

training, balance and flexibility exercises and the fostering

of strong social relationships between participants.

Enhance®Fitness is geared toward older adults. Those

with a chronic condition, such as arthritis, need not worry;

they will never have to do anything that hurts. Participants

can use chairs for support, if necessary, and increase the

weight they use for strength training at their own pace.

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 10:45am - 11:45am Registration required Participants may join at any time Cost: Free to members

Childcare & Preschool A new school year is filled with potential; a chance to start new routines and habits, build new friendships and discover new possibilities and interests. It’s an exciting time for many kids, and an extra exciting time for kids entering preschool. Early childhood education is such an important part of social, emotional, physical, and academic development in children, and lays the foundation for a successful and productive experience as a lifelong learner. The Y offers a high-quality licensed preschool during the traditional calendar school year. The preschool curriculum follows Washington State Benchmarks for kindergarten readiness. Our experienced and MERIT certified staff are dedicated to the development of each child. We provide a safe, caring, and positive environment and believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. At the Y, children learn how to be their best selves.

From swimming and craft projects to enrichment activities and homework, the YMCA of Grays Harbor Enrichment Program (Childcare) offers care for preschool and school-aged children that challenge their imagination and creativity.
