THOUGHT for the DAY:

When you open a new bag of cotton balls, is the top one meant to be thrown away?

Page 2: MARCELLO’S ITALIAN RISTORANTE FRI. JUNE 2, 2017 · 02.06.2017  · Before the 2006 NBA Finals, Corby Davidson asked Shaquille O’Neal: "Let's just say that a snake bit your mom

JOKE of the WEEK: The phone rings and the lady of the house answers, "Hello". "Mrs. Ward, please." "Speaking." "Mrs.Ward, this is Doctor Jones at the Medical Testing Laboratory. When your doctor sent your husband'sbiopsy to the lab yesterday, a biopsy from another Mr. Ward arrived as well, and we are now uncertainwhich one is your husband's. Frankly the results are either bad or terrible" "What do you mean?" Mrs.Ward asks nervously. "Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimer's, and The other one testedpositive for AIDS. We can't tell which your Husband's' is." "That's dreadful! Can't you do the test again?"questioned Mrs. Ward. "Normally we can, but Medicare will only pay for these expensive Tests one time." "Well, whatam I supposed to do now?" "The people at Medicare recommend that you drop your husband off Somewhere in the middleof town. If he finds his way home, don't sleep with him."

QUOTE for the DAY:

"You may not like rich people, but when was the last time a poor person gave you a job?" -- Gene Simmons

STUFF YOU NEED TO KNOW June 2, 1981: Barbara Walters asked Katharine Hepburn what kind of tree she would be. In oneof the most remembered, replayed and satirized interviews in television history, ABC aired aBarbara Walters Special, featuring interviews with Lauren Bacall, Nancy Reagan, and KatherineHepburn. During Walter's sit-down with Hepburn, the famous actress opined, "I'm a very strong,I've become a sort of, you know, thing." "What?" queried Walters. "I don't know what," Hepburnreplied, "A tree or something." Barbara followed up with, "What kind of a tree are you, if youthink you're a tree?" "I hope I'm not an elm, with dutch elm disease," Hepburn says with a laugh, "because then I'mwithering. "No, everybody would like to be an oak tree. It's very strong, and very pretty." Comedians and the media hada hay day with the exchange. Subsequently, an oft used production guide book and manual for TV interviewers contains a list of admonitions about what NEVER to ask a guest on a show. What kind of tree they’d want to be is #30 on the list. Here are some others: # 23: Never turn down dinner with Clint Eastwood, # 24: If you don't think someone is sexy orattractive, don't say it, #26: Enough already with the virginity talk!, #27: Never ask people how much they're worth, it'srude. (Unless it's Donald Trump)....A little research revealed that TV guests have also been asked what Muppet orsuperhero they’d like to be, why manhole covers are round, what kitchen appliance they’d like to be, if they’re good atpicking up women and if size really matters. One (nameless) interviewer liked to ask if his guests would like to add sometoxicity to their life? The usual response was “Um..NO!” Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Joe Salave’a was once asked,“What’s your relationship with the football?” To which Salave’a said, “I’d say it’s strictly platonic.”Before the 2006 NBA Finals, Corby Davidson asked Shaquille O’Neal: "Let's just say that a snake bityour mom right here, right on the chest area, would you be willing to suck the venom out to win thetitle? Shaq replied lightheartedly, “No, but I would with your wife.” (End of interview)

USELESS FACT OF THE DAY:

The cost of raising a medium-size dog to the age of eleven: $ 16,400

(H ate to think what these two cost)

ROTARY SERVING HUMANITY MINUTE

Improving sanitation and hygiene training in BeninAdapted from the May, 2017 Rotarian

The village of Paouignan in Benin, (Originally part of Nigeria) neededimproved clean water infrastructure, sanitation, and hygiene. With help fromDistrict 2080 in Italy, the Rotary Club of Abomey-Calavi, Benin bent to thetask. They secured a grant and budget for $158,999. The end result was a new well and water tower, 10new taps, the repair of seven older taps, and a program providing hygiene training in Paouignan. Theimpact of the projects improved water access and sanitation practices that benefitted 17,000 people. Theirgrant was part of the Future Vision Pilot. The sponsoring clubs understood the Foundation’s desire forsustainable projects and created the hygiene component of the grant before any training documents wereavailable. The grant sponsors communicated in three languages while carrying out this project, provingthere is no obstacle determined Rotarians can’t overcome.
