The Movement of Communion and Liberation

Communion and Liberation is a movement in the Church which has the purpose of forming its members in Christianity in order to make them coworkers in the Church’s mission in all areas of society.

CL began in 1954 in Italy, at the Berchet classical high school in Milan, when Father Luigi Giussani (1922-2005) started an initiative of Christian presence which used the name Gioventù Studentesca (GS; English: Student Youth).

Its current name, Communion and Liberation (CL), appeared for the rst time in 1969. This name brings together the conviction that the Christian event, lived in communion, is the foundation of man’s authentic liberation. As Benedict XVI declared, Communion and Liberation “today ... offers a profound way of life and actualizes the Christian faith, both in a total delity and communion with the Successor of Peter and with the Pastors who assure the governing of the Church, and through spontaneity and freedom that permit new and prophetic, apostolic and missionary achievements”

Giussani summed up the content and purpose of his effort in these words: I came to believe deeply that only a faith arising from life experience and con rmed by it (and, therefore, relevant to life’s needs) could be suf ciently strong to survive in a world where everything pointed in the opposite direction.

Communion and Liberation is present today in roughly ninety countries on all the inhabited continents, and is guided by Father Julián Carrón,

who succeeded Father Giussani after his death in 2005.

Representatives from The Movement of Communion and Liberation will be speaking at the 9:00AM Spanish Mass

and the 12:00PM English Mass on Sunday, March 8th.

On Friday evenings, our choir will help us to pray before the exposed Blessed Sacrament with reflective hymns, readings, and musical meditations.

Join us for Evensong on Fridays throughout Lent in

St. Joseph Chapel at 7:30PM

SOME IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT HOLY COMMUNION

The Holy Eucharist is the Real Presence of Jesus—body, blood, soul and divinity, under the appearance of the host, HE IS PRESENT. The host we receive at communion time, is NOT a “symbol” of Christ’s body, or a “reminder of His presence.”

THE CONSECRATED HOST AND CONSECRATED WINE ACTUALLY ARE CHRIST’S BODY AND BLOOD. This is why we need to approach the reception of Holy Communion with great reverence and respect. We are supposed to fast from food and drink for one hour before receiving Communion. We need to be sure we are not chewing gum or mints when we receive communion. We need to have clean hands on which the priest will place the host. As we approach the Priest to receive Holy Communion we need to be in silent prayer. It is not the time to say hello to anyone, or speak to others on the line. When we are in front of the priest we should bow our heads in reverence, and then open our hands or our mouths to receive Him. We must consume the Sacred Host while still standing before the priest. Do Not put it in your pocket or take it out of Church to receive later. The Priests or official Ministers will bring communion to the sick. Just call inform the rectory of anyone who is home bound. The Precious Blood of Christ contained in the small chalices is really the Blood of Christ in the form of wine. We approach it with reverence and bow our head before consuming it. Receiving the Precious Blood is an optional gift. If you are not feeling well or you have cold, etc. do not receive the Precious Blood. We are bringing these things to your attention in order to correct abuses we found in our parish concerning the Holy Eucharist, and to be sure everyone knows that these things are the Official Doctrines of the Catholic Church concerning Holy Communion.

Please be super respectful of the Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

The Holy Father speaks… Worldliness is the enemy of God. There is only one path against the spirit of the world: humility. Serving others, choosing the last place, not climbing the ladder.

I wish you may all learn to look at life from above, from the perspective of heaven, to see things with God's eyes, through the prism of the Gospel.
