Message from

Principal of Dharmaraja CollegeIt is indeed with a great pleasure that I add my felicitations to old pupils of Olcott Schools in the UAE, who have successfully organized Olcott Memorial Cricket Tournament for the 9th consecutive time.

Sir Henry Steel Olcott is a distinguish figure behind upbringing of Bud-dhist education in Sri Lanka. Inaugurating a Buddhist school under colo-nial governance was a tough row to hoe, due to their missionary biased policy. Nevertheless patriotic activists lead by Sir Henry Steel Olcott created a success story by constituting numerous Buddhist schools in various parts of Sri Lanka. Today these schools are in the limelight of education sector.

The gamut of social services carried out by your organization is awe in-spiring and commendable. I learnt that there are multifarious activities taking place to improve camaraderie of its membership as well.

On this occasion I wish you the audacity and efficacy to continue these services and activities for many more years to come.

Further I would like to wish all the school teams with good luck and an enjoyable day of cricket.

Message from

Principal of Nalanda College

I take great pleasure in sending a message of best wishes to the souve-nir published on the occasion of the 9th annual Cricket tournament to be held in United Arab Emirates among the Olcott Schools of Sri Lan-ka. This tournament helps to spread and review ideologies of Sir Henry Steel Olcott whose contribution to Buddhist education is outstanding. His name will be etched in gold in the annals of Sri Lanka history as one who pioneered Buddhist education.

Col. Olcott was the pioneer who was responsible for the establishment of National Schools like Ananda, Nalanda, Dharmaraja etc... His contri-bution towards the betterment of our country, nation, religion, justice and good conduct has been so great, therefore remains in our hearts forever. The establishment of these schools led to a drastic change in the society in particular and the country at large as these school have become the cynosure in producing eminent personalities to the nation. As old boys of these Olcott Schools, it is vital to organize these events in which a platform will be created to reestablish the past relationship, mu-tual understanding and brotherhood among them. This also helps you to spread the principles of Col. Olcott like the importance of Unity, good conduct and Universal fraternity.

Sports like cricket will undoubtedly help to broader these ideologies among a large gathering while inculcating good morals in them. The rapport that the players build up at this grand event, reflects and exem-plifies others the path for peaceful and harmonious living in a trouble free friendly environment.

I take this opportunity to convey my appreciation and gratitude to the organizing committee of the 2016 tournament. Their dedication and hard work may be resulted in making this event a grand success.

On behalf of Nalanda College I wish all the teams Best of Luck.

Annual family event of the Olcott Schools ‘Peduru Sajjaya’ was held on 13th November 2015 at Crown Plaza Hotel, Deira Dubai. It was third consecutive year to organize this annual event paral-lel to the other Olcott events in the UAE. Overall energetic partic-ipation was more than hundreds with their families. The atmosphere of Peduru Sajjaya was real touch of the Sri Lankan spirits as decoration around the ballroom was filled with real “pan peduru” mood and themes.

The music for the participants was backed by the group of Sri Lankan classical band, ‘Akanita’ who are employed in the UAE and few of the band members were represents from old boys of Olcott Schools in Sri Lanka.

First of all I would like to thank you all profusely for extending this invitation to me. I feel extremely honoured and privileged for offering me an opportunity to deliver the Olcott Memorial Oration from a special venue which is a meeting place of various cultures of the world.

This is incidentally my first visit abroad for the last 11 years since 2004. Although I received many invitations for visits abroad to participate in lectures, workshops as well as private tours during this period, I was not that keen to undertake them, but Ananda College was an institution where I was born and bred. As such I could not refuse this opportunity to honour the founder of Olcott Schools including Ananda College, my alma mater.

As an old Anandian I feel extremely happy to meet my old Anandian colleagues and past pupils of other Olcott Schools at a place like this. It was an old Anandian and an old Nalandian who came and met me to hand over this invitation. During our conversation I realised that despite the brotherhood among our two schools, there is a small competition between the two running underneath. This was there during our time too. I was reminded of it when I saw Bandula Warnapura among the audience today. Bandula Warnapura was our hero in cricket. We were happy and overjoyed when he made heavy scores with the bat in inter-school matches because he was the Captain of Nalanda, our brother school. But if I say that we always prayed and expected him to get out with no
