HAVING SEEN THE LIGHT, THEY PREFERED THE

DARKNESS

Román When I was a boy, I was sure that I would go Hell because my mother, the Priest in Mass and even the Nuns that taught Catechism, made me fear a God that was vigilant at all times, ready to punish me for my disobedience and sins, that would certainly take me to the deepest of hell and if I wanted to save myself, I would have to live a life of a Saint having renounced all types of pleasures of this world and all that would cause happiness. I would have to pass all of my time in prayer and in Church. I intended to live that type of life; however, at the smallest upset, tantrum, or protest, I would be reminded that I would go to Hell. Whenever I committed a wrong doing and fall or hurt myself, then, I was told it was a punishment from God for my sins. I became more fearful of God than the "boogie man". During my rebellious adolescent years, it served me well to become an atheist and not believe in that cruel God that would indulge in punishing me. But I could not live without God and I began a sincere search in Buddhism, Hinduism, and all types of non Christian religions. I finally I decided to investigate for myself the God of Christianity and I discovered that He was a God that was very different than who they had taught me He was. I discovered that He is a God of love, that He did not indulge in the death of the sinner. He wanted the sinner to convert and to live. A God slow to anger and quick to forgive. A God that loves us so much, that He has given us His own Son to save us from our own mistakes and the hassles that we put ourselves through because of our sins. I discovered that we are all called to be saved and enjoy the Kingdom of Heaven. The only thing that can condemn us is to not accept that Divine gift. It is not that God condemn us, instead it is us who can freely reject salvation. Jesus Himself tells us in today's Gospel: "God did not send us His son to condemn the world, but so the world would be saved through Him. The cause of the condemnation is this: "Even though the light come into the world, men preferred the darkness over light because their doings were wrong." This is what truly indicates that we are behaving well. If we do something that we do not want others to know about, it is better that we do not do it, because He will find out. If we do something for which we would have to lie, it is best not to do it, because the Devil is the Father of lies and the truth will set us free. There are things that we do in private, but we don't have an inconvenience that it is known that we do it, but if we don't want something to be known, it is because we know that it is wrong. It is best not to do it. The path to the Heavens is shown to us by Jesus Christ, which is the revelation of the love of the Father for us who has made us His children, and as His children we shall live in His love and reflect His love onto others.

HABIENDO VISTO LA LUZ, PREFIRIERON

Cuando era niño, estaba más que seguro que me iba a ir al Infierno ya que mi Mamá, los Padres en la Misa y hasta las Monjitas que me daban catecismo, me hacían tenerle miedo a un Dios que estaba vigilante en todo momento para castigarme por mis desobediencias y pecados que de

seguro me llevarían al más profundo de los infiernos y que si quería salvarme, tendría que llevar una vida de Santo con todo tipo de renuncias a los placeres de este mundo y todo lo que causara alegría. Tendría que pasarme todo el tiempo en oración y en la Iglesia. Yo intentaba llevar ese tipo de vida, pero al menor enojo, berrinche y protesta, me recordaban que me iría al Infierno y cuando al hacer alguna travesura, me golpeaba o caía, me decían que era castigo de Dios por mis pecados. Llegué a tenerle más miedo a Dios que al ¨Coco¨, o ¨Boogie Man¨. En mis años de adolescente rebelde me vino muy bien hacerme ateo y no creer más en ese Dios malvado que se complacía en castigarme. Pero yo no podía vivir sin Dios y comencé una búsqueda sincera en el Budismo, Hinduismo y todo tipo de religiones no Cristianas, hasta que finalmente, decidí investigar por mi cuenta al Dios del Cristianismo y descubrí que era un Dios muy diferente al que me habían enseñado. Descubrí que es un Dios de Amor, que no se complace con la muerte del pecador, sino que se arrepienta y que viva. Un Dios lento a la cólera y pronto para perdonar. Un Dios que nos ama tanto, que nos ha dado a su propio Hijo para salvarnos de los propios errores y líos en los que nos metemos debido a nuestros pecados. Descubrí que todos estamos llamados a ser salvados y a gozar del Reino de los Cielos y que lo único que nos puede condenar es el no aceptar ese regalo Divino. No es que Dios nos condene, sino que somos nosotros los que libremente podemos rechazar la salvación. Jesús mismo nos lo dice en el Evangelio de hoy: ¨Dios no envió a su Hijo para condenar al mundo, sino para que el mundo se salvara por él. La causa de la condenación es ésta: habiendo venido la luz al mundo, los hombres prefirieron las tinieblas a la luz, porque sus obras eran malas.¨ Este es el verdadero indicador para saber que estamos actuando bien. Si hacemos algo que no queremos que nadie se entere, es mejor no hacerlo, porque Dios si se entera. Si hacemos algo para lo cual tendremos que mentir, mejor no hacerlo, porque el Demonio es el Padre de la mentira y la verdad nos hará libres. Hay cosas que hacemos en privado, pero no tenemos inconveniente que se sepa que los hacemos, pero algo que no queremos que nadie se entere, es porque sabemos que está mal. Mejor no hacerlo. El camino al Cielo, nos lo muestra Jesucristo que es la revelación del Amor del Padre para con nosotros que nos ha hecho sus hijos y, como hijos vivamos en ese Amor a Dios en los demás.

On Wednesday March 14, at 7 p.m. The Prayer group in our Parish of Saint Joseph will lead one hour of prayer for our new Bishop Myron Cotta.

CELEBRATION OF SAINT PATRICK.- This Holy Bishop chose to return as a Pastor to the land that once he was a slave to eradicate the superstitions and heresies of the old Druids. He used a clover to explain the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. His festivity has fallen into folklore, celebrating it with alcohol and other excesses foreign to the Christian Faith he preached. We invite you to celebrate this great Saint soberly after the 6 p.m. Mass on Saturday, March 17 at the Rectory with authentic Irish food and music.

2D COLLECTION FOR THE PARISH HALL NEXT WEEK. By Kathy Cage. Last August we broke ground on our long-awaited parish hall at the south end of the parking lot. It is projected to be complete by early fall 2018. We raised enough money over the years to complete construction with no debt. But the building will be very stripped down. Because of high construction costs, we had to eliminate everything non-essential from the hall. Without additional funds, we will have a perfectly functional 2100 sq ft assembly hall with bathrooms. That's it. We eliminated the wall dividers we had designed to break the assembly hall into smaller meeting rooms and all the kitchen finishes. The room for the kitchen is plumbed and wired, but nothing is in it. We had no money to outfit the building in any way. Our current fundraising effort is to solicit additional funds to be able to buy chairs, tables, modest AV equipment, outfit the kitchen (with residential level finishes), and for the meeting room operable wall dividers. Any contribution toward this effort would be greatly appreciated. Considering the three pillars of Lent: almsgiving, prayer and fasting...perhaps this could be part of your Lenten almsgiving this year.

FIESTA DE SAN PATRICIO.- Este Santo Obispo eligió regresar como pastor a la tierra donde fue esclavo para erradicar las supersticiones y las herejías de los Druidas. Utilizaba un trébol para explicar el Misterio de la Santísima Trinidad. Su festividad ha caído en el folklore celebrándolo con alcohol y otros excesos ajenos a la Fe Cristiana que él predico. Les invitamos a Celebrar sobriamente a este gran Santo después de la Misa de 6 p.m. el Sábado 17 de Marzo en la Casa Parroquial con auténtica comida y Música Irlandesa.

2A COLECTA PARA EL SALON PARROQUIAL LA PROXIMA SEMANA.. Por Kathy Cage. El pasado Agosto dio comienzo la construcción del tan largamente esperado Salón Parroquial y se espera terminar para el Otoño de este año. Por años se ahorró el suficiente dinero para la

construcción sin deudas. Debido a los altos costos de construcción, tuvimos que eliminar lo que no fuera esencial. Sin fondos adicionales, contaremos un Salón perfectamente funcional de 2100 pies cuadrados, Un salón para reuniones con baños, nada más. Tuvimos que eliminar las paredes divisorias para los salones y los muebles de la cocina. La cocina cuenta con plomería y electricidad, pero nada más. No contamos con fondos para los muebles. Por esto estamos tratando de reunir fondos para poder comprar sillas, mesas, equipo audiovisual, equipo de cocina, y paredes divisorias para los salones. Sus contribuciones para lograrlo, serán enormemente apreciadas. Considerando los tres pilares de la Cuaresma: Caridad, oración y ayuno… Probablemente esto podría ser parte de la caridad Cuaresmal de este año-

EUCHARISTIC THURSDAY AND WAY OF THE CROSS FRIDAY DURING LENT Every Thursday of Lent at 7:00 pm we will have a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament at both St. Joseph’s Church and the Missions. The same goes for all the Fridays of Lent. There will be the bilingual prayer of the Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church and the Missions.

CHRISM MASS.- On Thursday March 22 the new Bishop Myron Cotta will celebrate the Mass at the Cathedral of Stockton with all the Priest of the Diocese and will consecrate the Holy Oils that will be used in all the Parishes during the year.

PALM SUNDAY- Lent is coming to an end. On Sunday, March 25 we will celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem and with that event, begin Holy Week. Get ready to live it all with total devotion. THANK OU DEAR BISHOP BLAIRE.- Let´s give thanks to God for giving us a good Bishop who worked very hard in favor of our Diocese and was very brave to confront the problems that happened and always defended the rights of the most vulnerable, the persecuted and the oppressed. Let us keep him in our prayers and ask God for his prompt recovery and that he may continue working fro the Mayor Glory of God. May God bless him always. MEETING TO PREPARE THE HOLY WEEK.- All Ministers, Lectors, Decorators and Altar Servers are required to attend this meeting to prepare the Celebrations of the Holy Week. MISA CRISMAL.- El Jueves 22 de Marzo el nuevo Obispo Myron Cotta celebrará la Misa en la Catedral de Stockton con todos los Sacerdotes de la Diócesis y consagrará los Santos Oleos que serán usados en todas las Parroquias durante el año.

DOMINGO DE RAMOS.- La Cuaresma está llegando a su fin. El Domingo 25 de Marzo Celebramos la entrada triunfante de Jesús a Jerusalén y con ese acontecimiento comenzamos la Semana Santa. Preparémonos todos para vivirla con plena devoción.

GRACIAS QUERIDO OBISPO BLAIRE.- Demos gracias a Dios que nos concedió un buen Obispo que trabajó arduamente en favor de nuestra Diócesis y que enfrentó de manera valiente los problemas que surgieron y nunca dudó en salir en defensa de los más vulnerables, perseguidos e injustamente perjudicados. No nos olvidemos de pedir a Dios por él, para que le conceda una pronta recuperación y le permita seguir trabajando para Mayor Gloria de Dios. Que Dios lo colme de bendiciones.

Estos cuatro jóvenes de Guadalajara: Ricardo, Santiago, Andrés y Agustín nos dieron tanto en tan poco tiempo. No sólo nos aportaron un enriquecimiento espiritual para esta Cuaresma, sino que su presencia nos dio un ejemplo de amistad, entusiasmo y alegría de vivir cristianamente.
