March 13, 2017 To: MWFA Members and Fastener Industry From: Bob Baer, President The MWFA will hold their annual Milwaukee meeting on April 6 th discussing an increasing issue-“Protecting Companies from the Cyber Threat”. We have been fortunate enough to secure a speaker from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Byron Franz is a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and has worked on national security matters for over 20 years. He currently serves in the FBI Milwaukee office as the Private Sector Coordinator, where his job is to raise awareness of cyber and insider threats to business and academia, as well as state/local governments. He holds a B.A. in Russian and a law degree, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The theft of intellectual property or trade secret information may cost the U.S. between $300-$400 billion dollars a year and can result in the net loss of millions of jobs. The protection of business data, engineering secrets, email accounts, customer lists, etc. are of great importance to our economy. This presentation will describe some of the cyber and insider threats to business that exist and suggest some possible mitigations. The presentation will also highlight the importance of working with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to neutralize threats to business and academia. During this presentation, you will learn the primary methods of computer intrusion and mitigations for protecting yourself against cyber and insider threats. You will also find out about the importance of leveraging state and federal resources to defeat these threats. Cyber theft could be detrimental to a company, don’t miss your opportunity to learn about safeguards to assist in protecting your company and yourself.
