“in pursuit of PIA’s commitment to provide a national mechanism for the free flow of timely, accurate and relevant information… “ VOL 2 ISSUE 64 Daily E-Newsletter of Philippine Information Agency - 8 March 18, 2014 T he Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Eastern Visayas will bring together the Region’s water and power sectors to raise public awareness on the close link between water and energy consumption as it joins the country and the rest of the world in celebrating World Water Day on March 22. DENR Regional Executive Director Leonardo Sibbaluca said this year’s celebration, which has a local theme “Water is Power,” will focus on the growing awareness that saving water may be one of the most effective ways to save energy – and vice versa. Echoing the words of DENR Secretary Ramon Paje, RED Sibbaluca said “We wish to highlight the important link between water and power, and how they are highly dependent on each other.” He noted that producing energy uses water, and providing freshwater uses energy. He said both processes face growing limits and problems. Sibbaluca calls on World Water Day 2014 fete in Eastern Visayas focuses on Water is Power T he Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Eastern Visayas reminds the public that the ownership and use of chainsaws are regulated by law, hence, anybody found possessing and using the tool without permit is liable for criminal prosecution. DENR Regional Executive Director Leonardo Sibbaluca said that in like manner, business establishments selling the tool should abide by the law to avoid criminal offense. “Although we realize the important use of chainsaws in the production of lumber materials to rehabilitate houses and continued on page 5 continued on page 7 other infrastructures damaged during Typhoon Yolanda, the DENR has to follow its mandate of registering chainsaws, RED Sibbaluca said. He assured the public that DENR will facilitate a simplified chainsaw registration in its different Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices in the region. The Chainsaw Act, or Republic Act No. 9175, which was enacted in 2002, regulates the selling, purchase, re- selling, transfer, distribution or possession of a chain saw without a proper permit. In order to plan and strategize how to improve the consortium’s

performance for CY 2014, the Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (EVHRDC) has to evaluate the consortium’s accomplishments. A meeting will be conducted for the consortium to be able to come up with its Work and Financial Plan for the period June 2014 to December 2014 and likewise draft activities for CY 2015. Relative to this, members of the different committees of the EVHRDC coming from the various government institutions are invited to attend the said planning workshop on 18 March 2014 at 8:00 a.m. at Ritz Tower de Leyte, Tacloban City. During the planning workshop, EVHRDC Coordinator Ms. Mae Anne D. Reyes will present the rationale of the activity, while Ms. Elenita P. San Juan will act as the facilitator. The activity will be concluded through the conduct of the presentation of the output per committee and this will be followed by an open forum. (PIA 8)
