USS EMORY S. LAND is the first oft Navys newest class ofsubmarine tender, designed to support the Los Angeles Class at

submarine. The Emory Land class is designed and fitted to

accommodate attack submarines , furnishing maintenance andlogistic support. Up to four SSNs can be supported alongside

simultaneously. Submarine tenders are the largest of the active

auxiliaries. There crews are made up mainly of technicians and

repair personnel. The AS-39 classis a modernized version of the36 class. Here ships can be recognized by the weather deck pas

which extends along the aft half of the ship, but are otherwise

virtually indistinguishable from the AS-36 class. The have extenmaintenance shops for submarine shops for submarine systems

equipment as well as weapons and provision storage. They are

equipped with a flight deck capable of operating all Navy helos

Have you noticed like I have that all it takes is a gla

vehicle. I have noticed myself that I have taken awa

my ability to drive carefully because of my GPS devin the car. I decided to do a search for an address

while I am driving. I SHOULD pull off the road, st

then do what I have to do. I honestly have noticed my inattention has had me travel a considerable

distance without 100% attention to the road. Sure I

have some view of the road, but my mind is

elsewhere. With this in mind think of how bad it is

holding a cell phone to your ear and carrying on aconversation while steering with one hand. I have s

drivers at an intersection making a left turn while

holding a cell phone to their ear with the other hand

Now the worst case scenario is a car with teenagers

talking away and laughing while the driver is textin

away. They of course think that those who have had

serious accidents are someone else who must have jhad an accident. Most auto accidents are not

accidents; they are caused by carelessness or under

influence of mind affecting drugs one of which is th

addiction of text messaging.

nniversary on February, 22, 2010.

BYMOESOTO

Buddy has his/her way of getting my attention when I do not

notice it is there. I was sitting at the kitchen counter readingthe newspaper and drinking my coffee.

Something out of the corner of eye caught myattention. There was Buddy getting as close as he could so

I would notice. I find that amazing and heartfelt that a bird

goes out of its way to attract me. It is standing on the covere

BBQ unit. One time Laura was at the kitchen sink and hearpeck on the glass. There was a patio chair next to the wind

and Buddy had stood on it to get her attention. Apparently ju

being three was not enough and that is when it pecked on the

glass.

Buddy has been with us and now with me over the

years. I accept that it is only a bird and also not the origina

one that caught my attention one day when I was sitting in tlibrary full of self pity and crying. There was this seagull on

the railing of the deck looking at me as if say "Moe, shape

up."

We were always concerned that one day there wouldnot be Buddy to greet us when we returned from a trip from

Spain. That has never happened. From days later before it

came to our house to one time only fifteen minutes after

arriving from Spain, it has been here for us. One day one ofwill not be there. Time moves on and changes occur.
