Illawarra riders please take note: the Tortoise ride of January saw seventeen riders gather on the Key Batteries forecourt before the one o’clock departure, of which a good number were of the older machines. As they departed one of the attendees – who had driven to the venue – drew my attention to the fact that (apart from the usual few drops that would dot the cement), there were three distinct pools of oil – one quite large – staining the forecourt. I’m sure if the owner of the premises had ventured down from his home behind the garage, he would have not been “best pleased”, and it certainly did not have a good look about it. I would be the first to admit that older machines do leak oil plus the fact that occasionally their oil tanks can be overfilled before a run, BUT their owners should be aware of their shortcomings in this area and try and take evasive action to negate any cement discoloration of this kind. As far as the forecourt of Key Batteries is concerned, if your machine is known to be a “leaker” it would be a very good idea to park it on the grassy verge out near the footpath where the oil drippings can fade into the grass and be noticed not at all. January’s aftermath was a couple of oil rags and some elbow grease to restore the “status quo”, but a little consideration will go a long way in playing our part in keeping the cement as we find it! Even bringing a bit of cardboard with you would help, as it can then be disposed of when the run is leaving. Lets look to doing the right thing in the future, which also means a good look for the club in general.

CEMCC Illawarra Ride Report January 2014.Saturday 18th. The year kicked off with a coastal ride to Bulli Beach Café. 19 attended, 10 on Historic plates, 7 on Modern bikes and 2 in a car! A really wide range of bikes from Ariel to Velocettes were present, with much in between. The coffee was good and the company was even better.

Sunday 19th. Six bikes left Key Batteries for the run to Shoalhaven Heads. The ride went via Jamberoo and Saddleback Mountain, on to Kiama, Gerringong, Berry and back country roads behind Mt Coolangatta. Roads were good, weather was fine and the lunch stop at Shoalhaven Heads Hotel pretty enjoyable. Of the six riders, two came down from Sydney for the day. Jim Cummins

A husband and his wife are shopping at the local supermarket. The husband picks up a case of beer and places it in their trolley. “What the hell do you think you are doing?” exclaims the wife. “They are on sale, only $40 for 24 cans” he replies. “Put them back immediately!!!” demands his wife; “we can’t afford them.” He meekly complies and they carry on shopping. A few aisles further along, the woman picks up an $80 jar of face cream and placed it in the trolley. Gobsmacked, the husband asks – “Now, what do you think you are doing?” “It’s my face cream . It makes me look beautiful” she replies. “So does 24 cans of Tooheys, and its only half the price.” Retorts the husband. “HUSBAND DOWN!, HUSBAND DOWN!, AISLE 7” was heard on the store PA a short moment later.

A Man & His Wife. Had a power cut this morning, so no PC, Laptop, iPhone, DVD, it is raining, so I can't take the bike for a ride. Oh well I thought I will get a Coffee, dash , no power for the Jug. So I went out & sat with the Wife & talked to her for a few hours. She seems to be a very nice person.

Sunday Jan 5th Granya Gap The weather turned out to be sensational for riding so it was no wonder we had so many starters for our first ride of the season. We had Paul & John Bullock on 650 Kwakas, Roy & Kay Whitehouse thumped along on the Norton, Prez Roger had the Indian out sans sidecar to run it in a little prior to The Great Race, Mark and Lyn Lennon on the “new” Harley, Jim Brown on his KLR, Bruce Phemister on the GR650 Suzi, Len Peters arrived on the Ariel, me (Runamuk) on the Scrambler and finally the late Dave Sinclair on the T110 (rides start at 10am Dave). After Dave finally showed up we headed of towards Bethanga via Doctors Point, we all regrouped in Bethanga minus Prez Roger as he had developed a slight oil gush sorry leak. Dave then led us around the Bay rd to Talgarno where we joined the River rd to head on to the Granya Gap. Again regrouping in Granya as we had all developed leaks (toilet stop), We chatted for a while contemplating the ride ahead and discussing the Lunch venue. We then remounted and carved our way through the Gap heading onto Tallangatta for those of us that needed fuel, we then decided to head to O’Malley’s in Wodonga for lunch where we enjoyed a great meal. Great day Great ride. John McCluskey

Sunday 12th January We met at La Maison with 4 riders and 2 plated bikes. Fish rocked in for a few minutes, said he couldn't make the ride, had had a big night and was still having trouble focusing properly. We headed off to Yackandandah to pick up Max, who was riding a Norton. We departed and headed off to Mudgegonga and onto Ovens and then across to Myrtleford. We had a small pit stop there and then headed off and cut a cross to Stanley then onto Beechworth to the Nicholas Hotel for lunch. By the way Max just wanted to let you all know that this bike was the only one that had a kick start. Why, I don't know..!!! A nice day was had by all but it was a tad hot by the time we got home. Cheers Mick Yerbury

Sunday 19 January 2014 Thoona Hotel I waited in vein for another rider to turn up at La Maison but at five past ten accepted that I was on my own for the first part of the trip. This decided I headed off to Rutherglen. There I met up with Runnamuck on his Trumpy and Alan Pollard from Wang on his Guzzy. Shortly after we were joined by the ex president and others in their tin top. As no one else turned up we headed off for Thoona about 11 with three bikes, one on club plates, and the car. Despite the day warming up quite quickly it was a pleasant ride via Peechelba which saw us at the Thoona pub about 11.30. Despite being a half hour earlier than we planned the publican was most accommodating and let us in and even sold us some cold beer. We found that the undercover beer garden area was very nice so settled in for lunch. We were soon joined by Wayne Wilson from Corowa. Lunch was of the usual very high standard. The return trip was via Wangaratta with Alan dropping off in town then the Howlong and Rutherglen folks heading off at Wang North, leaving me with an exciting 70km ride on the freeway back to Wodonga. Bruce Phemister

The Great Race-Harley vs Indian 25/26Jan Held at the station Resort Jindabyne. Attended by Roger McGregor and Leo Klausen. I left Albury at 8am and rode the Indian, in the rain, along the river road for a cuppa at Walwa. After weeks of 40Deg heat and not wanting to carry much I chose to use plastic pants and jacket. I soon became soaked to the bone, and resorted to stopping at Tintaldra Pub asking for plastic bags to put over my socks! Upon reaching Khancoban I lunched with other mad and wet Indian riders. We left together and carefully rode to Jindabyne via Swampy Plains and Thredbo. After checking in at the resort I had to push my bike to the room due to water in the electrics. Checked in and found I was entrant 135 of 140 with a departure time of 10.06am. Harley vs Indian is a rally where you leave paired up with a Harley or Indian at exactly 1 minute intervals. You lose or gain points for your team by leaving on time, stopping at road blocks and answering strange questions and seeing how far you can go on the downhill rolling race. Extra points are also given for riding an older bike. This is a riders rally, with Saturdays ride being 380kms. Due my late starting times I found I was riding by myself most of the day. Saturdays ride went to Dalgety, Cooma, Bemboka, Candelo, Bombala, Dalgety then back to Jindabyne. Sunday morning started with time trials in the care park. Finally left on a 150km round trip, to Charlotte Pass Resort for lunch at 1765mtrs. After lunch we had to start the rolling race from the lookout. Not much fun trying to gain speed when cars are parked on both sides of the road. I managed to finish 8th. If you are in Jindabyne I strongly advise riding or driving the 39kms to Charlotte Pass, awesome road and awesome scenery. Sunday nights’ presentation dinner saw 230 people attend for a 3 course meal. We celebrated as Indian won the event!! A late night was had by all ,but I was eager to hit the road. So at 6am I snuck out while Leo snored on, push the Indian away from the room and road home in the shadows while looking at the ranges above covered in sunshine. A great rally with the added bonus of riding to and from safely. I rode 1090kms with only a smidge of generator trouble. Roger McGregor

a husband and his wife are shopping at the local supermarket. The husband picks up a case of beer and places it in their trolley. “What the hell do you think you are doing?” exclaims the wife.

“They are on sale, only $40 for 24 cans” he replies. “Put them back immediately!!!” demands his wife; “we can’t afford them.”

He meekly complies and they carry on shopping. A few aisles further along, the woman picks up an $80 jar of face cream and places it in the trolley.

COWBOY IN HEAVEN

A cowboy appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. 'Have you ever done anything of particular merit?' St. Peter asked.

'Well, I can think of one thing,' the cowboy offered. 'On a trip to the Black Hills out in South Dakota , I came upon a gang of bikers who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. So, I approached the largest and most tattooed biker and smacked him in the face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, and threw it on the ground. I yelled, 'Now, back off or I'll kick the crap out of all of you!' St. Peter was impressed, 'When did this happen?' 'Couple of minutes ago.'
