Like-Minded Partners Collaborate To Save Children’s Lives
Collaboration between like-minded partners resulted in the saving of 21 children’s lives during the March 2016 Electro-physiology mission to El Salvador. Three local hospitals worked together (Hospital de la Mujer Cardiac Cath Lab, Hospital Benjamin Bloom and Rosales Hospital) to maximize the number of patients evaluated and treated. Healthcare professionals from all three Salvadoran hospitals worked with the visiting team from UCLA Medical Center located in Los Angeles, California. This expert team, led by Dr. Kevin Shannon, returned for their third consecutive year to treat children with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW) and Supra Ventricular Tachycardia (SVT). Gift of Life International affiliates, Latidos de Esperanza and Regalo de Vida El Salvador coordinated all logistics to ensure a successful mission. We are grateful to Digicel El Salvador, Regalo de Vida El Salvador and the Rotary Clubs and Districts who helped fund this highly specialized mission. Thank you to Dr. Juventino Amaya, Director of Hospital de la Mujer Cardiac Cath Lab, Emi Ambulance Services and the Sheraton Presidente Hotel and St. Jude Medical for their generous In-Kind Donations. This collaborative effort helped heal 21 Salvadoran hearts who otherwise had no hope.
