From I-95: Take Exit 130 B (toward Culpeper and get in left lane)

Go West on Rt. 3 for 15 miles.

Turn left at signal light Rt. 621 Orange Plank Rd. (look for white on blue sign Miller's Farm) Go approx. three miles and turn left on Windy Acres Lane (just past three silos on right)

Take immediate left on Parker Lane (gravel road)

Go approx. 1/4 mile and the beagle club entrance is on left (look for sign)

The second year of the Potomac/BHCA Hunting Per-formance tests is fast approaching, March 26-27.

We again have an outstanding group of officials—five from BHCA and two from the local Battlefield Beagle Club.

This year we are offering a 10” x 6” stained glass Tif-fany Style basset hound made exclusively for our club raffle by local artist Roger Todd.

Here are some facts of interest regarding this event that may not be known. About 10 years ago, BHCA introduced the HPT. Their ultimate goal is for it to become an AKC recognized titling event. To make this happen, basset hound clubs across the U.S. must offer twenty tests with an entry of twenty dogs for two years running. Both days (Sat. and Sun.) stand alone. So the weekend equals two tests.

Last year, Potomac became the first club in VA to offer the HPT, and thanks to Carol Makowski, along with Bill Forrest, Ken Engle and John Meahl from BHCA we became a player.

It is important for the club to continue to show support for the test. Members need not enter if this isn’t your thing; but coming out, even for a short while, is. This is an opportunity to meet some of the parent club who have worked long and hard to get the test approved by AKC.

Begin at:Meeting called to order at 1:31 p.m. November min-utes approved as published in the January Lowdown.

President’s Report:Kevin Merritt thanked everyone for coming and thanked Gregg Kantak for arranging meeting space at the show site. Entries are coming in for the Hunt Test, please mail in your entry soon if you plan to come. PBHC is also gearing up for a wonderful Specialty, Obedience, Rally Trial, and supported entry this sum-mer with the Potomac Hound Club and the Southern Maryland Kennel Club.

Committee ReportsShow Chairman: All the AKC paperwork has been submitted for the shows this summer. The contract has been signed with MBF. Since ad space is so expensive with the MBF catalogs, the club will do an ad insert for the catalogs.

Trophy: thank you to everyone who has donated so far. If you haven’t donated to our trophy fund yet, please consider doing so. Specialty trophy lists are being finalized. If you wish to donate a particular item, please do so by Feb. 15, 2016.

Hospitality: Sally Nist will be handling hospitality for the judges.

Grounds: MB-F will handle grounds and set up

Photographer: we will be using the cluster photogra-pher, but bring our own placards.

Food: while we cannot offer food during the show, we hope to meet afterwards at a local restaurant for dinner.

Raffle: please bring a basket for the raffle! Everyone donating a basket will be entered in a drawing for a basset related prize!Anyone having a basket or item for the Hunt Test, please bring to the March meeting for Ellen Ripper.

OldHunt test updates: Entries are coming in. The club has judges, food, etc all setup. Please bring any Hunt Test raffle items to the March meeting. Devon Merritt will order tote bags with the club logo for judges gifts. We won’t do a judges dinner this year due to time constraints.

NewNomination Committee: Sally Nist, Edee McGregor, Denise Blake. The nomination committee will be nominating a Vice President, Treasurer, and 2 Board positions.

Judges Education Seminar: SMKC has asked us to put on, with the BHCA, a judges education seminar. Devon will contact Sue Smyth and Richard Nance to get everything started.

From I-95 (North or South: Exit on Rte 3 West to Culpepper at Fredericksburg, VA. Go approximately 13 miles to Wilderness and turn left at light onto Rt 20. Stay on Rt 20 about 10 miles and turn right on County Rd 692.Go about 2 miles and turn right onto 602, then take the next left onto Fieldstone Lane (gravel road). Joan’shouse is at the end of the cul de sac, # 6446 (see basset on gate).

From Rt 29: Take 29 to Culpepper exit onto Rt 3 East to Fredericksburg. Go ap-proximately 18 miles to Wilderness and turn Right onto Rt 20. Follow as above.

We’ll have southern cooking for breakfast and lunch. And the raffle will have some non- traditional items including our hand- made stained glass basset.

Come out to the Battlefield Beagle Club in Locust Grove, VA any time from dawn to dusk. Wear off those jelly beans and candy and get a little exercise.This is a win-win for PBHC and BHCA. Are you willing to make the effort?
