CommunityMATTERS

Hello there VillageWalkers! Spring is just about here and I can't wait to see all of the beautiful blooms and flourishing greenscape around the community. Spring is such a wonderful time of the year. February came and went in what feels like the blink of an eye. I'd like to thank those of you who joined us for our monthly HOA Educational Seminar where we discussed the responsibilities of the BOD and Management. A special thank you to Tom and Allen who helped answer your questions about what it's really like to sit on the Board of Directors for VillageWalk! For those of you in a non-attached single family home in the older section of the community, you may have received a letter recently about making sure that the exterior of your home has received a good power wash and fresh coat of paint. We'll be reaching out to you all again with a friendly reminder before sending notices to specific homes. Please remember if you'd like to paint your home a different color than what is already existing on the structure, you must apply for approval with the Architectural Review Committee before commencing your project. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

I'd like to thank the many of you who have recently helped us by sending in covenant violations throughout the community. Please remember when you report a violation, it is always kept confidential. Therefore we ask that you please continue to send in information and making us aware of things that need to be addressed. The more detail you can provide, the better we can attend to the matter.

Thank you for your continued dedication and involvement!

At your service,

Valerie Velazquez

Violation ofthe Month

Reintroducing:

My name is Yen Perez and I have had the pleasure to fill the role of Assistant Community Manager for VillageWalk since September 2015. I have filled roles in community management for aproximately ten years now and I'm very excited to take on this new opportunity. Starting in April, each month, I'll be highlighting a different "Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions" (CC&R) violation and provide informative guidelines in hopes to continue to educate the community and prevent such acts from occuring. Among other things, as an HOA management company, Access is responsible to perform routine weekly and periotic inspections of the community for the purpose of ensure that our CC&R's and Architectural Guidelines are being followed and all residents are in compliance. We all share a common interest in maintaining the appearance and safety of our neighborhood and we encourage each of you to report any known violations that are of concern to you. The process is simple...please email us at [email protected] with the description and location of the violation with as much detail as possible. You're also always welcome to stop into the Town Center with the information regarding your concern. Any digital photos you can provide will greatly expedite this process! If you do not receive a reply within 3 business days, please follow up via email or phone. On another note, in an effort to improve all of our daily functions in the office, we have restructured the Resident Services and Lifestyle Teams to add support to each department and therefore ensure a more dedicated service. On our Resident Services Team, Romy and Sara are on the front lines assisting with superior customer service; and on our Lifestyle Team, Jamileth, will be supporting Linnette as her assistant. Please join us in welcoming these ladies to the VillageWalk team! Feel free to stop in and meet our new team members.

At your service,

Yen PerezYour Assistant Community Manager

Royal Caribbean’s new brand campaign, Come Seek, is an invitation to the next generation of cruisers to experience adventure, exploration and discovery. It is a fantastically energized approach to showcase the essence of the experience they have been delivering for the last 40+ years. It is an experience they continue to advance each year and for all generations. The reality for the cruise industry is that approximately 54% of the population, particularly the millennial generation, has never taken a cruise because they have an outdated perspective of what the experience is like. Royal Caribbean’s mission is to disrupt and challenge these misperceptions and engage this next generation traveler to consider a cruise, to take a cruise, and help us redefine cruising. Come Seek is a call to travelers who want more than to sightsee along the beaten path. It’s for adventurers who don’t just want, but require, an immersive, culturally rich and unique experience. Royal Caribbean delivers on this both onboard with their crew from over 75 nations and within the dozens of distinct countries in the Caribbean they visit and know better than anyone. With the introduction of 2 new ships and re-introduction of the Empress of the Seas, Royal Caribbean is changing their ship lineup at the different ports. Here in Port Canaveral, we will be saying farewell to the Enchantment of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas and welcoming the Majesty of the Seas who will be undergoing a refurbishment before arriving and the Oasis of the Seas later this

year. We’ve got some great group rates along with other special offers as well. For instance, The Freedom of the Seas departing on 9/11/16 for a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise starting at $539.00 per person plus tax based on double occupancy with special amenities. Or how about celebrating Thanksgiving this year on the Oasis of the Seas for a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise departing on 11/20/16 starting st $885.00 per person plus tax based on double occupancy out of Port Canaveral! Royal Caribbean presentation on all the newest updates! Your VillageWalk neighbor and Cruise Planners Travel Specialist, Marilee Terp.

WORKING WITH BATHROOMS Typically bathrooms are one of the smaller rooms in the house, even though one of the most used. Choosing a color scheme and design for a bathroom is a matter of personal taste. Would you prefer it to be bright and cheerful, giving you energy to start the day, or do you want it calm and relaxing to create a tranquil feeling in preparation for bed? Do you like an ornate and luxurious look or rather a sleek look, boasting modern lines?. When choosing color, ask yourself if you want to make the room appear larger, brighter or warmer. Does a monochromatic look appeal to you or something with contrast? It is best to keep colors that relate to the bedroom when working with an en-suite bath. To begin, I usually recommend white tubs, toilets and sinks. Nothing dates a bathroom like seeing green, gold or pink fixtures. White is just timeless and works with every color and every style, from cottage to contemporary.

White fixtures paired with black and white subway tiles, dark cabinetry and

red accents will bring high contrast and chic drama. Using white cabinetry with and sea green or aqua tile will create a more seaside/cottage look. Change the white cabinets to espresso cabinets and you get a tranquil

spa feel. The pictures show two bathrooms that are the same with

different cabinetry, wall color, tile and accessories.

Incorporating textiles can change the look dramatically. Imagine the same bathroom with a geometric shower curtain verses a solid curtain with a simple border. One adds drama while the other adds simple elegance. Finally towels, artwork and accessories will complete the theme, look and feel you want to achieve.

Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does. ~William James

The lifestyle program here at VW continues to expand and grow! Over the course of the next few months we will continue to offer signature events and additional community activities. Starting in April, we will be distributing feedback cards at each event and activity. We ask that you please take the time to fill out the card and return it to your class instructor and/or concierge located in the Town Center. This is a tool that will allow us to gather pertinent feedback of which we can learn how to better serve you and/or improve our offerings. I have had the privilege to meet so many of our newest residents and the one question that they all have in common is "How can I be more involved in the community?" It really is a great question! We encourage each and every one of you to take an active role in shaping your community. An excellent way to let your voice be heard is to attend our Spirit Team Mocktail Reception on Thursday, March 10th @ 6:30pm (be sure to RSVP). Come out and meet your neighbors while helping to create and plan our signature events and community activities. We have some amazing events planned for this month! On Saturday, March 12th, we will be hosting our Family Easter event on from 11am to 1pm in the Town Center. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance, there will be crafts and we will have a petting zoo here as well. We are asking the community to please help by donatin cupcakes, without frosting. If you're interested in donating cupcakes, please bring them to the Town Center no earlier than Thursday, March 10th but no later than

Friday, March 11th. It is my understanding this is a neighborhood tradition and we would like to thank you in advance for donating your time to ensure a fun activity for the children. Please note, unlike previous years, we will not be having an easter egg hunt this year. This event is free for all residents. Pony rides are $5 per child (under 80 pounds). Additionally, I wanted to thank those of you who attended last month’s Comedy Show. The show was sold out, I'd say that's a success! Next Month we will be hosting the Beatles Tribute Band on Saturday, April 16th, so be on the lookout for more information soon to purchase your tickets. In April, we will also be introducing a Spring Market and we hope you will attend and support VillageWalk’s local businesses. We will also be bringing the Orange County Regional History Center to VW on Saturday, April 16th during the day to host a family event. They will present a 40-minute family friendly show and will follow up with a historical craft for kids (this event will be limited seating). Beginning in May, we will be offering a series on "Wine Tasting & Knowing Your Wine" and we will be launching our Nature Walks. Lastly, I am happy to introduce to you our newest member to the Lifestyle Team, Jamileth Hudson. Jamileth is very creative and her energy is one of a kind! She comes to us with a background in multimedia journalism, marketing, social media management and is the pure definition of a social butterfly. She is a wonderful addition to the community and the team. Please drop in and say hi, our door is always open!

Enjoy Your Lifestyle!

Savory Egg & Sweet Potato Scramble

Ingredients:8 eggs

1/3 cup milk1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/4 teaspoon salt1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 tablespoon butter 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 1 pound

total), peeled, quartered lengthwise and thinly sliced

1 green onion, sliced 2 cups baby spinach

Directions:

Cook, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are lightly browned and just tender, about 8 minutes. Add spinach. Cook until slightly wilted, about 1 minute.

3. Pour egg mixture over potato mixture in

Recently the Orlando Sentinel ran a feature article about our parent organization, Dress a Girl Around the World. Our group, Dressed in Hope (pictured above both in formal and “work” mode) is an offshoot of that national organization. The Sentinel interviewed our very own VillageWalk resident and club member, Karen Arruda for the article. Karen shared the fact that we delivered more than 800 dresses last year to six different countries. Karen speaks for all of us who share this mission: “A lot of people say they want to help others and pay it forward, but all of us really have a mission to help. I feel very fortunate in my life and have a home, clothes and food for my family,” Arruda said. “I know many of these little girls have never had a doll or a new garment of clothing of her own. Everyone should always do something to contribute because we as Americans have so much.” Well said, Karen!

Florida’s Black Bear Scenic Byway

Most trips to Florida focus on two things: the beach and Orlando’s ever-sprawling series of fantasy-lands like Walt Disney World. What if we told you there were thousands of acres of beautiful wilderness and local Florida fare right outside Orlando and just a few miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean. Discover all the natural springs, lush vegetation, and maybe a bear or two on the Black Bear Scenic Byway. The Black Bear Scenic Byway dissects the Ocala National Forest, running north and south from Palatka to Umatilla and east and west from Ormond Beach to just outside of Ocala. If you’re a fan of fishing, rural beauty, and rustic dining, you’ll love this stretch of the Black Bear Scenic Byway. Starting in the north in Palatka or Umatilla in the south, both directions offer you every opportunity imaginable

to connect with nature, catch some fish, and soak some beautiful springs Much like the east/west portion of the Black Bear Scenic Byway, the north/south route’s major draw is its remarkable springs and other watering holes. If you’re a fisher, Rodman Recreation Area has a great pier to drop a line, but for most travelers, the springs are where it’s at… Salt Springs Recreation Area is one the recreational jewels of the Ocala National Forest. The recreation area is located in the lush, semi-tropical setting of central Florida. Within the recreation area is a natural spring rising from vertical fissures (cracks) from deep within the earth. The presence of potassium, magnesium and sodium salts give the waters in the spring a slight salinity. Hence the name Salt Springs.

LandscapingUpdate

By: Chris Skerzsick

We experienced several frost events the last week of January and again last month. There are lots of tropical plants in the community and many of them will show signs of the cold, including the turfgrass. The weather should begin to steadily get warmer after mid – March, just in time for the spring break crowd from up north! The community has been battling the death of established palms for years now. I do not want to bore you with technical information. Simply put, there are several diseases affecting them. These diseases cannot be chemically controlled. Replacing palms is a huge expense the HOA endures every year. We are working with the HOA to see if we can come up with suitable replacements that may not be affected by these diseases. Sometimes, it makes more sense to just not replace the dead palm, or to use a different plant altogether. Our maintenance team will begin mowing weekly towards the end of this month, as long as there is sufficient growth. Crape Myrtle pruning is still ongoing. We will be cutting back many of the flowering shrubs soon, and this will continue into April. Our pruning decisions are determined with the HOA in attempt to keep a consistent community standard, following Best Management Practices. Our agronomic team has completed early spring fertilization of your shrubs. We will begin doing the same with the turf this month, along with spot treatment of broadleaf weeds. Please keep in mind, everything will begin to look better as soon as soil temperatures get higher. Our irrigation team continues to check the system, making needed repairs and adjustments. We have recently worked on mainline issues. Whenever we do this, a portion of the entire system may have to be shut down completely. We may also shut the system down when low temperatures are expected or we receive a heavy dose of rainfall. There are several wire path issues in the community. This causes affected areas to not operate automatically from the controller. Tracking these problems is very time consuming. We have been using battery packs and operating the system manually in these areas. When the system is on, if you notice your neighbor’s system runs and yours does not, please let us know. We ask that you observe this several times prior to contacting us. Please ….never touch the valves yourself! As always, if you have any questions or concerns please use our customer service system or contact your HOA and we will do our best to help. We appreciate the opportunity you afford us, allowing us to service this beautiful community.
