Earth Day
Monday, April 22
Celebrate Earth Day by enjoying nature. Here are
some ideas to inspire you:
Plant wildflowers!
Go native! Plants thrive when they’re natural to
your area.
Bring nature into the garden with plants that at-
tract butterflies and plants that attract hummingbirds
Invite native bees to your garden. These are the
bees that pollinate your plants for more flowers and
food! Perhaps add a native bee house.
Lions and Leos serve to strengthen the relation-
ship between the community and its environment.
We’ve seen how our stewardship of natural resources
can improve quality of life and increase engagement in
our local communities.

A strategic object of Lions Club International is to
sustainably protect and restore our environment
to improve the well-being of all communities.

Lydia Houser
District Governor
District 13 OH6
Hello Lions, Lioness and Leos!
On March 2nd, we held our third Cabinet meeting at the Carlisle Lions Club house, and it is great to
hear what your district cabinet members are accomplishing and the visits they are making. We were also
honored to have CC Greg Hess in attendance. He congratulated our Lions, Lioness and Leos on their ser-
vice and continued support of our district. He has encouraged us to continue to recruit new members in
our clubs. At the end of February, we are at a -17 in members, but I know we are going to continue to in-
stall new members in our clubs and have our district at a plus in membership by the end of June. We can
do it!! Invite one, host an open house, use the Ohio Plan, invite a friend to work a project with you…all of
these get people involved with Lions. Members provide our clubs with helping hands in service, ideas on
what you can do in the community, people to help with fundraising, etc.
District Convention is coming quickly and will be April 12-13 at the Embassy Suites in Blue Ash.
“Let’s Get Funky” on Friday evening means to show up in your favorite party era dress and have an enjoya-
ble evening socializing with our Lion friends. Saturday, we will have a Necrology in the morning, business
meetings, lunch, an afternoon program to include Lions Bingo and meetings, a chance to talk to our Inter-
national Director and our Grand Banquet on Saturday evening. We will also have a hospitality room with
lots of yummy food and drinks. Look for the convention registration form in this newsletter as well as on
the website and some additional information on what is happening. Our International guest will be Inter-
national Director Gwen White and her husband, Lion Rhett, from Columbia, North Carolina. They are very
excited to come to Ohio and meet the Lions of OH6!
It is that time of year to submit your club for some special awards that will be presented at District
Convention. The criteria is in the District directory pages 52-59 as well as on our OH6 website and has
been in the newsletter. These are due to me no later than March 15th. Please submit your club for these
awards. There are small, medium and large club awards. If you don’t submit your club, you cannot win
and get recognized for all the club accomplishments. You should be proud of your club and the difference
they are making by following our motto of “We Serve”. My home address is 4791 Blue Spruce Court, Day-
ton, OH 45424 or my email is: [email protected]. If you have questions, please call me at 937-236-
5254.
Many of the clubs have made their annual contributions and we thank you for that. If you haven’t,
there is still time to donate. If you have questions on a charity, please contact the district representative
and their name/number is in the district directory. These representatives are also available to be a guest
speaker at your club meetings.
Lion Ric and I had a great time attending our first Taco Bingo, attending a chili dinner, charter
night/open house, pancake breakfast, singing by a local duet, having a round table discussion on mem-
bership recruitment, attending club meetings, etc., in February. March is full of Zone meetings and we
hope to see many of you at these. We have also bought our chocolate Easter bunnies from Miamisburg
Lions, raffle tickets from the PDGs, club raffle tickets, etc. We have so much fun being with the Lions, Li-
oness and Leos!
Please continue to let me know when you are having activities as well as the webmaster and news-
letter editor. We are trying our best to make it to one of your club meetings. My email is: LMHY-
[email protected] and my phone number is Home (937) 236-5254 or Cell (937) 609-6594. Let’s continue
making this year a year to remember!!!!! Thanks for all you do!!!!!!!!!!

District 13 OH6 Newsletter March 2019
I can’t believe this year has gone so fast. Governor Lydia is doing
a great job with visitations to clubs and attending fund raisers and
service projects. She has also almost completed her goal on mem-
bership, let’s all work with her to get every club to attain one new
member. She has done a great job this year and hopefully next year
we will continue to work together to continue what she has gotten
started.
I have been attending club meetings, zone meetings, cabinet
meeting and district conventions. Sometimes I feel like I am running
in several directions but that is good because it keeps me focused
on what is most important to accomplish.
I have been working on my cabinet positions for next year and
would like to thank all those who have volunteered to help me. This
is the second time around for me and the district is bigger, it will
take all of us working as a team to help us grow in service and mem-
bers.
I still have several zone chair positions available if anyone would
like to volunteer to help me out or if you have any lion in mind that
would be able and willing to accept the position, please let me
know.
Thanks everyone for all you do!!

“Just One-Buck”
Thank You one and all for the great service(s) you provide to your community and beyond. Each Lion program has
a story. In today’s high pressure and rapidly changing environment, it’s a matter of priority and interest of your
members which programs you support. Many Lions don’t receive information or have limited information on what
the different programs are all about.
We are requesting your financial support for Lions Quest. The amount of at least $1.00 from each club members.
This provides an opportunity to participate and help us meet matching funds for the L.Q. Grant.
Our belief is that all the other club programs are important and we do not want to take away from your Clubs ex-
isting programs. We want to offer each Lions Club member the opportunity to participate in raising the needed
matching funds. We are requesting one-dollar from each Lion in Ohio. If your donation equals or exceeds the
number of members in your club, your club will qualify for a Lions Quest Banner Patch. The first one-hundred Li-
ons Clubs that meet or exceed the one-dollar challenge will receive one of these banner patches. Your club treas-
urer should collect the dollars and mail a check made out to MD13 OHIO LIONS, Inc and mail to:
OHIO Lions INC. 4074 Hoover Road, Grove City, Ohio 43123.
Enter: Lions Quest on memo line.
The committee will mail a “Thank You” with a Banner Patch.
Getting involved is more than the name Lions Quest infers. It is owned and operated by Lions. Its aim is to teach
life skills to pre-K thru 12 grade students. The Scope of the program includes Social and Emotional Learning, SEL
and character education which provides:
Building a Positive Learning Community. Personal Development
Social Development Health and Prevention
Leadership and Service Reflection and Closure
Beyond the classroom and the effects of anti-bulling and drug prevention, it provides an opportunity for your club
members to connect with your school personnel. Additionally, you can give information about your club and the
other Youth Programs such as: LEO Clubs, Peace Poster Contest, Student Exchange, Camp Echoing Hills, Kamp
Dovetail, Liberty Day, Essay Contest, Environment Photo Contest, the GOOD Program, Eddie Eyeglasses, All-State
Band, and James T. & Betty Coffey Program. If more information is desired, contract your District L.Q. Coordinator
or one of the State Lions Quest Committee Members in the State Directory.

MARCH SERVICE ACTIVITIES
Help us celebrate NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK which is April 7-13.
Check this website: https://ww2.pointsoflight.org/nvw
A coordinated effort by MD13 Lions to participate is highly encouraged. Identify and
select “Outstanding local Volunteers” (non-Lions) and invite them to a Lions Club
Meeting in April to be recognized and honored for their volunteer community service
and Leadership. Use this as a photo opportunity, provide them with a member bro-
chure, ask them to attend your next Lions service project and how can Lions can
support the cause they have a passion for volunteering. Ideas of where to look:
Youth programs – Scouts, Sports Church programs – food, community outreach
Humane Society Schools – volunteers to assist students one-on-one Home-
less Shelter
Share this idea at your club meeting, zone meeting and friends

CENTENNIAL CALENDARS
2019-2020 is the Ohio Centennial Celebration. We have re-
ceived 200 calendars as part of the Centennial Celebration
which depicts Lions across the state for the last 100 years. We
are selling our calendars and will use that money as part of our
district centennial celebrations. If anyone is interested in calen-
dars, please let 1VDG Sherry or DG Lydia know.
STATE CONVENTION
State Convention is May 17-19 at Embassy Suites in Dublin, Ohio. This year’s theme is “Everyday
Heros”. The Lions, Lioness and Leos of OH6 are definitely hero’s and we hope you can attend. There
will be several things on the ballet: add a Compliance Committee as a permanent state committee;
delete the Band Committee; and delete the Financial Oversight Committee. If you are a delegate, you
will be voting on this.
