Jaguars kick off 2016 track

season

As the winter sports seasons have come to an end, the Jaguars

are off to a great start on the track. The track team only had about a

week and a half to practice prior to their first meet. This did not affect

the Jags at all. The track team was very successful at their first meet on

Friday, March 18 at Wayne State College. Luke Renter was the

individual champion, winning the 55m. The next meet is the West Point

Invitational on March 29. The Jaguars will then travel to Wisner on

March 31. Good Luck to all track members and coaches!

Girls Basketball Team is named class D1 State Runner-Ups!

The Lady Jaguars were very pleased to receive one of the wild cards in class D1 and have the opportunity to travel to Lincoln for the Nebraska State Girls’ Basketball Tournament on March 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The team’s first round opponent was Dundy County-Stratton. The girls were extremely motivated because the tigers were a rival from last years semi-final lost. The lady jags came with fire and the student section was decked out in scary costumes. The final score was 54-40, with the Jaguars on top. Moving onto the semi-finals located at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, the girls prepared to face an unexpected opponent, Kenesaw. With excitement and nerves the girls won this match in true lady Jag fashion. Dressed as tacky tourists, the student section cheered the team on to a 59-32 victory over the Blue Devils. The Girls State Basketball Championship game was set to start at 9:00a.m. on Saturday, March 5th at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Both the girls basketball team and the student section, showing school spirit, represented Howells-Dodge well, as the game was broadcasted on NET. The girls fought hard and played through many ups and downs throughout the game. However, the Lady Jags were defeated by the Pirates, 38-41. Congratulations to the team and coaches on an amazing season, and for bringing home the Girls State Basketball Runner-Up trophy and medals!
