Living the Paschal Mystery

Sometimes, like the two sons in the parable, we entertain all the wrong

things Repentance helps us entertain the right things. Our human ten-

dency is to think we can make a go of life on our own. If we are happy

to settle for minimums, some of us can muddle through life reasonably

well. This parable reminds us that God offers us so much more.

The father is a model of mercy and reconciliation. It is the father who

models for us paschal mystery living. It is the father in the parable who

models for us the mercy of our heavenly Father— mercy that not only

forgives and reconciles but offers a feast. If we choose to die to self

(“coming to [our] sense”) and return to God, we are greeted with for-

giveness and feasting. Even more at, at our heavenly Father’s feast we

aren’t simply welcome back at the sons and daughters we were, but are

transformed into more perfect sons and daughters sharing in divine

Life. We feast on much more than a fattened calf; the feast to which we

are invited is nothing less than the Body and Blood of the Son. Receiv-

ing God’s forgiveness and mercy, and offering the same to another, is

how we pass from Wednesday ashes to Easter feasting. Let us rejoice!

Viviendo el Misterio Pascual

A veces, al igual que los dos hijos de la parábola, nos entretenemos todas las

cosas malas arrepentimiento nos ayuda a entretener a las cosas correctas.

Nuestra tendencia humana es pensar que podemos hacer un ir de la vida en

El padre es un modelo de la misericordia y de la reconciliación. Es el padre

celestial que no sólo perdona y reconcilia, pero ofrece una fiesta. Si elegimos

bienvenida con el perdón y la fiesta. Aún más al, en la fiesta de nuestro Padre

celestial no estamos simplemente la bienvenida de nuevo a los hijos e hijas

que estuvimos, pero transformados en hijos e hijas más perfectas partici-

pación de la vida divina. Festejamos en mucho más que un ternero cebado; la

fiesta a la que se nos invita es nada menos que el Cuerpo y la Sangre del Hijo.

Recibir el perdón y la misericordia de Dios, y ofreciendo la misma a otro, es

cómo se pasa de los miércoles cenizas a un banquete de Pascua. Alegré-

monos!

Predators are a very real danger to children today, and parents should

take every precaution to teach children about safe and appropriate touch-

ing, and what to do if these boundaries are violated. Teaching touching

safety is critical for kids, because it focuses on empowering kids to resist

predators. If a child learns about touching safety, they will be able to

respond to boundary violations in the best way possible and to talk about

Every Friday, during the season of lent,

we gather in the church to pray the sta-

tions of the cross. We start coming to-

gether as we share the various kinds of

soup during the soup supper at the parish

hall, which is well attended. Of course,

the highlight is the lenten tradition of

doing the stations of the cross. We reflect

about the life of our Lord Jesus - his suf-

fering, death and resurrection. Christ

offered his life on the cross for us to lib-

erate us from sin and death. The stations of the cross invites us

to follow the Lord, which is following his way of life. True dis-

cipleship entails the cross, as the Lord himself says, “whoever

wishes to follow me must take up his cross and follow me.”

Pope Francis, in one of his homilies at the Domus Sanctae Mar-

tha, says that there is no Christianity without the Cross, and

there is no Cross without Jesus Christ. He says further that

Christianity is a person, a person lifted up on the cross. A person

who emptied himself to save us. He took on sin. And so just as

in the desert sin was lifted up, here God made man was lifted up

for us. And all of our sins were there. Therefore, we cannot un-

derstand Christianity without understanding this profound hu-

miliation of the Son of God, who humbled himself and made

himself a servant unto death on the cross. As we continue our

Lenten journey, we pray that we may embrace the cross that will

eventually lead us to share in the glorious resurrection of our

Lord.

Introducion a la Liturgia de la Palabra:

San Pablo nos dice que “Dios….nos reconcilio consigo por medio

de Cristo...y nos confirió el ministerio de la reconciliación”. Esto lo

vemos de una forma dramática en la primera lectura cuando Israel

por fin entra en la tierra prometida. Jesús lo describe de una forma

aun mas dramática en la parábola del hijo prodigo, que encuentra

una reconciliación incondicional con su padre. Después de escu-

char estas historias, reflexionamos acerca de como nosotros tam-

bién podemos convertirnos en mensajeros de la reconciliación.

Todos los viernes, durante el tiempo de

Cuaresma, que se reúnen en la iglesia a

rezar las estaciones de la cruz. Empeza-

mos a que se unen al compartir los

diferentes tipos de sopa durante la cena de

sopa en el salón parroquial, que está bien

atendida. Por supuesto, lo más destacado

es la tradición cuaresmal de hacer las es-

taciones de la cruz. Se reflexiona sobre la

vida de nuestro Señor Jesús - su su-

frimiento, muerte y resurrección. Cristo

ofreció su vida en la cruz por nosotros para liberarnos del pecado

y la muerte. Las estaciones de la cruz nos invita a seguir al Señor,

que está siguiendo su forma de vida. El verdadero discipulado

implica la cruz, como el mismo Señor dice: "el que quiera seguir

conmigo, que tome su cruz y sígame." Francisco, en una de sus

homilías en la Domus Sanctae Martha, dice que no hay cristianis-

mo sin el Cruz, y no hay cruz sin Jesucristo. Dice, además, que el

cristianismo es una persona, una persona levantado en la cruz.

Una persona que se despojó de sí mismo para salvarnos. Tomó el

pecado. Y así, al igual que en el desierto de pecado fue levantado,

aquí Dios hecho hombre se levantó para nosotros. Y todos nues-

tros pecados estaban allí. Por lo tanto, no podemos entender el

cristianismo sin comprender esta profunda humillación del Hijo

de Dios, que se humilló y se hizo siervo hasta la muerte en la

cruz. A medida que continuamos nuestra jornada de Cuaresma,

oramos para que podamos abrazar la cruz que eventualmente nos

lleva a compartir la gloriosa resurrección de nuestro Señor.
