Dear Parishioners, Our church is our most sacred holy place of wordship. As we prepare the church for Easter by deep cleaning, power washing outside, and washing the windows, we found and removed more than 200 pieces of gum underneath our pews. Our sanctuary need to be treated with re-spect and reverent. Please help keep our church sacred and holy by not consuming gums in the sanctuary.

Penance Service March 16th, 2016

Please say Hi to Ken Hawes, new member of Sacred Heart Parish Pastoral Advisory Council
OCCUPATION: I have my own company, Hawes Enterpr is-es, LLC and act as an Independent Sales Rep for Invacare. FAMILY LIFE: I have been marr ied to my beautiful wife Eleanor, for 4 years. We have a baby girl due to be born in early April. She will be our first child, and she will join us and our two active dogs, Lucky and Jerry. HOBBIES, INTERESTS: I enjoy hiking, whether it’s along the bay, near our home in Netarts, on some beach, or on some forest trail. I also enjoy traveling with my wife and dogs. FAITH JOURNEY: I was born and raised a Catholic, and was blessed by having the opportunity to attend Catholic grade school and high school. Despite considering myself a Catholic my entire life, I sadly got away from going to Mass back in my college days. Through the years, I made a few attempts at coming back, but sadly, it would only be for a short time. Even though I at-tended a Catholic High School (La Salle in Milwaukie), for some reason, I was not Confirmed, as I believe the classes conflicted with the baseball season. LIFE AT SACRED HEART: I began attending Mass at Sacred Hear t in Spr ing of 2015, r ight before Easter. At the time, I noticed numerous references to the Holy Spirit popping up around me. Noticing this, it occurred to me that I really didn’t understand that part of the Trinity. I decided to read a book on the Holy Spirit, and in the beginning of the book, it first asked one to say a prayer asking God to give a sign that the Holy Spirit was real. I began reading this book on a Saturday night, and said the prayer as the book requested. The next day, I went to Mass, and realized it was a special Holy Day… it was Pentecost Sunday!!! At that point I realized I had been missing the Holy Spirit my entire life, and at that moment knew it was time to re-ceive the blessed sacrament of Confirmation. PRAYER INTENTIONS/REQUESTS: Please pray for the health of my pregnant wife, Eleanor , as well as for my unborn daughter. I ask that you also pray for my mother, Deanna that she may realize the im-portance of coming back to God and His church. Last but not least, as Pope Francis likes to say, “don’t forget to pray for me”.

March 6, 2016 FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
Dear Parishioners, Good bye is always hard. It saddens me to advise you that my term is ending this year, June 30, 2016 as pastor of Sacred Heart in Tillamook. It is hard to believe that I have been your pastor since 2004. I am grateful to the friendships and prayers that we have shared together. I am grateful for knowing and seeing families grow; celebrating Mass, altar servers who are now in college or working; seeing the delight of new parents; be part of saying goodbye to a loved one; uniting couples in Holy Matrimony, enjoying lovely din-ners; being nurtured by all the food, fresh vegetables, elk and deer meat, fish, wood, cards, phone calls, letters, etc. I am grateful for all the many learning experiences (my first parish as pastor, which I will never forget), the compassion and love you have for me and each other as been very rewarding and encouraging. Thank you for being patient with me, and I know you will be supportive and understanding of the next pastor here at SHP.
With your help we have accomplished a lot: a new church and gym roof, remodeled bathrooms in the church and gym, and a new chapel for the cemetery. Some of things we have been able to do is to add an addition-al 6:30 pm Friday Mass for our Hispanic community. It is wonderful to see entire family go to daily mass. I would like to thank the volunteer coordinators for all their hard work, as well as the catechists for a well-organized and successful program. Our confirmation/youth group that meets on Sunday has grown to 20, and of which 12 will be confirmed May 10. RCIA welcomes 5 candidates. I am grateful too for the numerous breakfasts, Fair, Sausage Feed and the recently added Crab Feed which not only brings our parish together but is also a great fundraiser for the parish. Thank you to all our volun-teers who help make these events successful. Our Ministry of Care has been growing with the help of parish members who bring communion, the bulletin, time, news and love to the home bound, those who are residents of assisted living facilities and to the Hospi-tal. I have found it very spiritually uplifting to visit with the young men at OYA. The parish bilingual website was updated, as well as the Facebook page which is very useful for those who are “snow” birds in keeping them informed. I am not sure where I will be going yet but know that wherever I am, I will miss you and pray for you. Please keep in touch. Again, thank you for all your support, prayers and love that you have shown me especially during the time when I was on administrative leave, and when I lost by mom. Your support have helped me get through that difficult journey of my life. Your kindness has meant so much to me, you have shown me Jesus. May God continue to bless you in your journey in life. In Christ, Fr. Joseph
