Dear Members,

over the past 2 months, there was an increase in the number of members and public officers participating in our Club’s social activities. The Lunar New Year Bazaar held at Tessensohn Clubhouse and the Loh Hei Dinner were very well attended. The Club’s annual Lucky Draw which coincided with the bazaar sale was conducted to a packed audience. The proceedings in the auditorium were screened live, for the first time, to the Clubhouses via our Local area Network system. The introduction of the new international specifications fruit machines in early Jan 2012, to the fruit machine rooms at Tessensohn and Bukit Batok Clubhouse, was also very well received by our players. i wish to thank our members for the tremendous support and we are looking forward to your continued participation in our social activities in FY 2012/13.

The Club has continued to harness and invest in our info-communication Technology (iT) to improve the productivity of the Management and the convenience of the members. The Wifi coverage in all the Clubhouses has been extended so that members can enjoy free internet surfing on the premises.

Fusion Magazines and the Club’s Constitution and Bye-Laws are now available in e-Book format. Members can access and download these via smartphones and tablets from www.csc.sg. The e-Book is our effort to support the Green initiative. We hope members will enjoy the convenience of this format and eventually opt out of receiving a hard copy of the Fusion Magazine, as a way to support the Club going green.

CSC now has a presence on Facebook to better connect with our members and public officers, through the sharing of information, posting of events photos and incentive giveaways. in Nov-Dec 2011, we gave away voyage de la vie tickets and in Mar 2012, we are giving away Disney on ice tickets. So, do check out CSC Facebook.

The Club will continue to invest in developing a comprehensive iT infrastructure, where the core functions is integrated into one Club Management System. The end result will be: a more efficient workforce and a more member-centric Civil Service Club. Members can expect more on-line payment of membership fees and a Sport portal on sporting activities, programmes and STar Games in our Website.

This year, more non-competitive healthy lifestyle (HLS) activities will be organised by the Club. There will be a HLS walk every month to the different parks across Singapore. The Ministries can take the opportunity to coordinate their own HLS days with CSC’s HLS walks. The Club will organise these walks with the required safety coverage, route marshals and refreshments.

Bukit Batok Clubhouse will be given a fresh coat of paint in apr 2012. The main entrance signage for cars and pedestrians will be replaced with lighted ones and the lighting along the passageway leading to the Clubhouse facilities will be enhanced by Mar/apr 2012. The Clubhouse is studying how to improve the approach, surroundings and facilities of the Tree-houses. Members’ suggestions are most welcome.

There is good news for bowlers who patronise planet Bowl at Tessensohn Clubhouse. Come mid-Mar 2012, the lanes and the pin setters will be overhauled. We are also replacing the existing bowling pins with a new set of Brunswick bowling pins. With this upgrading, i am sure the bowling experience of the bowlers will be greatly improved. The toilet facilities in planet Bowl will also be upgraded in Mar/apr 2012. During the renovation period, we will need to trouble bowlers to bear with the inconvenience of using the other toilets available just outside the reading room.

Some members may have received the new CSC car decal by now (see page 11). Yes, we are giving out a member’s car decal to all our members who have registered their car iU with the Club. This will help us manage our members’ cars better, especially during peak periods. You can collect your car decal from any of the Clubhouses’ reception desk.

The Club welcomes Ms Shirley Tay as the Finance Manager of the Club. She has extensive experience as a Finance Manager in other social clubs. She replaces Ms angie Lim who is now the Manager of Bukit Batok Clubhouse (see page 15). We will also take this opportunity to thank Ms penny Chan for her past years of service with the Club and wish her success in her future endeavours.

it leaves me to wish all the members an exciting March holiday and a happy Easter.

CNY Bazaar 2012... Huat ah!

The Civil Service Club would like to thank the following sponsors for making this event a success:

Appreciation to the following people from their valuable contributions & services• Mr Pang Chin Soon and team (Traditional Chinese Orchestra )• Master Wang Jia Zhen, Feng Shui Master• Singers from Wu Jia Ban Entertainment (吴家班娱乐机构呈献歌唱节目)

CSC celebrated the annual Chinese New Year 2012 in a big way with a Lunar New Year bazaar that offered a wide variety of new year goodies, a lion and dragon dance performance and stage shows on 14 January 2012. The Clubhouse at CSC @ Tessensohn was buzzing with activities as Club members and their families flocked in throughout the morning and afternoon.

To welcome the Year of the Dragon, the Club organised many activities and events at the lobby, atrium, extension block’s auditorium and ballroom. Shoppers were able to shop in air-conditioned comfort in the ballroom with booths selling Chinese New Year food and goodies, snacks, New Year decoration and gifts. Free Dragon Beard Candy, chilled F&N can drinks and CNY goodie bags were given out too! There was a branded bag sale as well. Children could also play with hand chimes, and join jewellery making and art and craft activities. The God of Fortune was present to hand out tokens and wish all visitors good luck and prosperity for the new year as well! There was also a dragon dance troupe which put up a show outside the extension block.

In the cool comfort of the auditorium, the audience were treated to the witty emceeing of Lay Cheng who livened the atmosphere and brought much laughter with her jokes and rapport with the participants on stage, the performance by the Chinese orchestra, as well as song and dance routines from three young singers. The traditional lion dance, at the end, was naturally the crowd favourite. The two lions performed the traditional cai qing dance of plucking vegetables and oranges to bring good luck and fortune upon all present!

Capping it off was, of course, the much-anticipated grand lucky draw finale, with a total of $18,888 in cash up for grabs by lucky participants. The draw, made in a wind-box, was the cause of much excitement in the fully-packed auditorium, as well as audiences in other clubhouses who viewed it ‘live’ via video links. Congratulations to all winners!

MORE than 500 members, their families and friends turned up for the Chinese New Year Dinner at Qian Xi Restaurant at Club CSC @ Tessensohn on 29 Jan 2012. It was a rousing full-house occasion as no empty seat could be seen.

This event was hosted by our ever-popular Lay Cheng. She is entertaining and a talented singer. Her blend of jokes, good vocals and the entertaining show-times kept diners on the edge of their seats. The eight-course dinner was sumptuous and 50 lucky participants went home with Lucky Draw prizes with the top prize – an 18K gold-plated crystal wine set!

Dinner & Dance 2011: Bowing out with a flourish!

BIDDING farewell to the old year in style and ushering in 2012 with a roar – this was what 750 public officers and their families did at the CSC Dinner & Dance 2011. It was held at the Orchard Hotel Ballroom on 31 Dec 2011 from 6pm onwards. The theme for the Dinner and Dance was in conjunction with the Club’s 40th Anniversary which represented an important milestone for the Club.

At the pre-event, members were treated to an assortment of pre-dinner activities like airbrush tattooing, photo taking and handicraft making.

Entertainment came in the form of a sand art display of the Club’s milestones by Stacey, Imran’s magic show, performances by Lee Pei Fei and ventriloquist performance by Joel & Friends, stage games by the emcee.

The CSC Singing Star competition was another highlight, with the finalists singing their hearts out. The finalists had come a long way from the prelims, quarter-final and semi-finals. Rozana Bte Ahmad Yousoff from the Pop Idol category won the hearts of the judges with the song ‘At Last’ by Beyonce, while Lim Peck Lan from the Evergreen Category scored the aces, with the song ‘Ai Wo De Ren He Wo Ai De Ren’ (爱我的人和我爱的人) by Qiu Hai Zheng.

This year, all the participants receive not one but two door gifts to commemorate the Club’s 40th anniversary. They received an OTO Eye Massager and a special collector’s item: A CSC Flash-Pay cash card, which bore an image of the Club’s iconic building.

The dinner was a memorable one. It ended with pyrotechnics and showers of lucky draw prizes that include iPads, Blackberry phones, Star Cruises tickets, LED TVs, travel vouchers and many more. Everyone went home with big smiles and a handful of prizes, gifts and goodies!

We hope to see everyone again at the 2012 Countdown @ Ritz Carlton!

Effective 2 Feb 2012, the following staff appointments in the Club have been changed:

• Ms Angie Lim has been appointed Manager, Bukit Batok Clubhouse.• We welcome Ms Shirley Tay, who will assume the position of

Manager, Finance & Investment.

Change of Appointment

I wish to thank the lifeguard and team who came to my aid at Tessensohn CSC swimming pool. I was in the middle of the deep end of the pool when I felt breathless and had difficulty in the water. But help came to me in less than about 2 minutes from the CSC team, for which I am very grateful. Thank you so much, once again, for your vigilance!

Adeline Kwan

Yesterday was the first time every person in my group of 31 diners attended the Lo Hei dinner at CSC and they thoroughly enjoyed it! Everything went smoothly, with nice souvenirs and a good number of prizes for the lucky draw. The waiters were attentive, topping up our drinks and showing good service. Thanks to Samantha, Gek Cheng and the rest of your management for organising the function.

Sng Jin Seng

I would like to commend the actions of a CSC staff, Mr Chan Tin Hong, and lifeguards Mr Dotson and Mr Winson. They had gone beyond the call of duty to assist me, for which I am very grateful.

I had lost my diamond earrings while swimming in the pool at Tessensohn Clubhouse, and approached the duty officer for help. The staff on duty promptly helped to search for the missing items in the pool (which is like searching for a needle in a haystack). Though they could only find one earring at first, they didn’t give up and finally found the other one the next day!

Again, I would like to thank these dedicated and honest staff in your team.

For your organisation

Well done on a well organised and successful Heritage Race! :)” – Adeline Tay, Participant for CSC Heritage Race via Facebook

…I would like to extend our utmost appreciation to all your staff for the smooth running of the Green Building Challenge. In particular,

CSC had arranged a group of facilitators to accompany each team in their hunt for Green Building and Features around Singapore to ensure

the safety of all our participants….Thank you for a job well done!– Mr Neo Choon Keong, Director, BCA

I never quite got around to sending you and your team an email to thank you for the great and wonderful service provided. All our staff had a truly great time and wonderful experience. I would like

to take this as an opportunity to thank both you and Jiaqi for all the accommodations made to our request…

– Mdm Toh, VP, GSPS
