FY 11/12 was financially a challenging year for the Management as there was uncertainty about the impact of the two integrated resorts. The Management was able to weather the competition and we are happy to announce that the Club performed well and exceeded the financial KPI set by more than 25%.
Overview of FY 11/12 Many of our facilities were upgraded and the services improved. We received positive feedback from our members and their families who used these facilities. Membership saw an increase by more than 11%. Many new social activities were added to complement the existing stable of activities. For example, an inaugural Public Service Singing Star competition was organised and it uncovered many hidden talents. The Club also provided key support to government ministries as a corporate event organiser and planner. The highlight was the Public Service Sports Carnival cum Family Day that was held at Marina Barrage on 26 Nov 2011 where more than 2,000 public officers and their families took part. Members will also be reassured of their safety within the Club as we achieved a BizSafe 3 Certification for risk management strategy framework, covering roles and responsibilities in risk management, hazard identification and implementation of control measures.
Thrust for FY 12/13 The Management will continue to enhance members’ experiences when they visit the Club. We will continue to improve our services by sending staff for customer service training and working out a service experience matrix for service staff to provide more consistent service. We will continue to upgrade our facilities and IT systems for the convenience of our members. A dedicated Sports Website will be introduced in Jun 2012 which will enable participants of the STAR games to register online, download photographs and obtain the latest information on STAR games and other Healthy Lifestyle Activities. The Booking Module in CSC’s main website will also be improved to include online payment for facilities, social activities and membership renewal.
The Management will continue to grow the genres of social activities offered to the members. There will be more categories in the Public Service Singing Star competition to allow more public officers to participate. We will try to collaborate with business partners to offer good discounts for our members to enjoy their products and services.
Tessensohn ClubhouseThe Goldmine will undergo a major renovation to improve its ambience and comfort for members. New chairs with swivel and height adjustment functions will be purchased to replace the existing ones. Goldmine will be temporarily relocated to the Arcade room during the period of renovation from late May till end Jul 2012. This, coupled with the purchase of more international specs machines, will certainly enhance the playing experience of our members. The Koi pond area will also be landscaped to include a tropical garden with a cascading waterfall. Work has commenced and will be completed by mid-Jun 2012. We seek your understanding during the period of these renovations and upgrading works.
Changi ClubhouseThe Clubhouse will undergo major renovation from early Aug 2012 to Mar 2014. The Clubhouse will be closed during this period.
Bukit Batok ClubhouseThe main entrance signage has been replaced to improve visibility, especially at night. The entrance area for pedestrians has also been repainted and relit to make it more inviting. The existing swimming pool deck furniture will be gradually replaced with new and more comfortable ones. These will be phased in from Jun 2012 onwards. The repainting of the Clubhouse is in full swing and will be completed by Sep 2012. A new staircase leading from the swimming pool to the Tree Houses has been built which will enable faster and more convenient access to the Tree Houses. As with Tessensohn Clubhouse, Treasure Cove will be renovated, new chairs purchased and more international specs machines introduced to replace the older ones which are less popular.
Public Service WeekThe Club is supporting the Public Service Week in May 2012, with a series of open houses, social and sporting activities. We are also engaging Public Service Organisations to visit the Club to partake in a slew of social activities. Do check out the details on pages 29 and 30.

is the newly opened Junction 10. This trendy
retail mall, which is integrated with the Ten Mile
LRT Station, has injected cosmopolitan chic to
the locale.
Bukit Panjang Plaza, which is near the Bukit
Panjang LRT station also offers a range of retail
shops and F&B outlets. Not far from Hillsta is
Lot One Shoppers’ Mall, which is conveniently
located next to Choa Chu Kang MRT Station
and Bus Interchange. Featuring 148 retail outlets
and a cinema spreading over six floors, Lot One
Shoppers’ Mall offers the widest variety of shops
in town.
New Green Adventure
Residents can enjoy more greeneries and nature
as more parks will be built in Bukit Panjang in the
next five years. The new Chestnut Nature Park
will feature a new network of park connectors
and a proposed suspension bridge over the
Chestnut Stream. This is in addition to the
present two parks — Bukit Panjang Park and
Zhenghua Park — which consists of a fitness area,
gazebos and playgrounds, and a 2.5km cycling
and jogging track running alongside the BKE.
Nearer to the Bukit Batok and Hillview area,
residents can also find pockets of greenery at
Bukit Batok Town Park (Little Guilin), Bukit Batok
Nature Park, or Bukit Timah Nature.
More Job Opportunities Close ByA few MRT and LRT stations away, the much
anticipated Jurong Lake District is on track to
transform into a unique business and leisure
destination as envisioned by the Government.
The largest commercial hub set outside the
city, Jurong Lake District will offer 500,000 sqm
of office space, and a good mix of office,
retail, hotel, entertainment, F&B and other
complementary uses. One can also look forward
to a new waterfront park and promenade, more
water activities, a world-class Science Centre
and a loop of attractions along the scenic
Lakeside.

Hillsta — Luxurious Hillside Residences A lovely condominium development with three housing options located near the heart of Bukit Panjang — a neighbourhood that is undergoing a slew of exciting revitalisations. Find out what makes Hillsta a good investment and a great home to stay.
Hillsta is a 416-unit residential development
located along Choa Chu Kang Road and Phoenix
Road, in the up-and-coming neighhourhood
of Bukit Panjang. It is the first of its kind in
the area to feature condominiums, townhouses
and SOHO apartments all in a development.
Residents and visitors would be awed by the
sprawling landscape and cascading gardens at
the Hillsta — inspired by the lush and hilly terrain
on which the development sits on.
Ease of Island-wide AccessHillsta is well-connected by the extensive
transportation network surrounding it. It is a
mere 3-min walk from the Phoenix LRT Station,
5-min walk to Junction 10 and 10-min walk from
the upcoming integrated transport hub, which

Aside from a seamless transfer experience for

to the city and Orchard Road will be swift via
the Bukit Panjang MRT on the Downtown line 2.
The three new interchange stations on this line —
Botanic Gardens, Newton Station and Little India
— will further enhance connectivity to the western,
northern and eastern part of the island.
Wide Selection of Lifestyle Amenities Accessing a host of amenities is a breeze for

CiviL Service Club is proud to be the programme and venue provider for the MNDrC-Club HDB Swimming Carnival. Held at the Tessensohn Clubhouse Swimming pool on Saturday afternoon, 10 March 2012, the event was blessed with good weather, albeit interspersed with a slight drizzle which kept everyone cool.
The swimming competitions saw staff from MND, HDB, BCa, ava and Nparks participating in the different swimming categories. During the intervals, the telematches kept the audience entertained, with parent-and-child fun races on inflatables crocodiles and inter-department games which involved juggling gigantic floating balls across the pool. The finale event was the Senior Management relay, in which the HoDs and Directors gamely swam their way to victories!
The most entertaining segment that got the crowd to their feet were the Ninja Warrior version of floating platforms, where the participants dashed across the floating platforms to score points. it was great fun for the audience to watch the players try to keep their balance on the wobbly platforms. There was also a Mass Swim event in which everyone swam three laps to redeem prizes. The treasure hunt game, in which players dived to the bottom of the pool to retrieve $700 worth of coins, was a hit too. The stronger swimmers were able to fetch as much as $30!
all participants were treated to yummy meals from old Chang Kee, popcorn, candy floss and potong ice-cream throughout the event. There was also lucky draws in which attractive prizes were won! The event ended, fittingly, with prize presentations at 5.30pm, with participants bringing home medals, prizes and fond memories.

happenings:
Guest-of-Honour and CSC Chairman Board of Games, Mr Tan Boon Huat, presenting an award to CSC Sea Sports Convenor Mr Tan Mong Kiang.
Board of Games Member, Mr James Kwek, presenting an award to Mr Ahmad Shah of MOE.
THE Civil Service Club held an awards presentation ceremony on 28 Mar 2012 to honour the sports contributions by the Club’s games convenors and sports liaison officers.
More that 100 guests gathered at the ruby room of Club CSC @ Tessensohn for the yearly event and were treated to a sumptuous dinner. in his address, Mr Tan Boon Huat, Guest-of-Honour and Chairman, Board of Games, highlighted that CSC would be organising more activities aimed at encouraging senior citizens working in the public Service, especially those living a sedentary lifestyle, to exercise and stay physically fit. With a sizeable number of senior citizens in the public service, this would prevent chronic health problems such as diabetes and heart diseases, which are prevalent among this age group.
He warmly congratulated and thanked the games convenors and sports liaison officers for their contributions and commitment to achieving the better results. He was confident that the sports liaison officers and games convenors would rally to the cause and put in their best effort to set a new record in 2012.
at the awards presentation Ceremony, Mr Tan Boon Huat presented, to the CSC games convenors and sports liaison officers, recognition awards as well as “Welcome Gifts” and “Continuous participation awards” to their organisations. The Ministry of Education successfully defended its coveted Division i Championship Trophy in 2011 with 84 points. JTC Corporation also showed their strength in winning the Division ii championship for the third year consecutively, with 14 points.

MHA Spikes To The Sepaktakraw CrownsTHE Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) emerged champions in both the Public Service Star Games sepaktakraw inter-regu and inter-team tournament finals, held on 18 Feb and 4 Mar 2012 respectively, at the PERSES Centre of Excellence. In fact, MHA was so dominant that it swept the top three positions in the inter-regu tournament.
Mr Md Riduan Md Akbar, MHA's sepaktakraw convenor, credited his teams' "personal sacrifice" in devoting time for training, despite their heavy work and family commitments. Another key factor in their success was the team tactics used in games, which were "planned meticulously", the players' skills being already at a high level. Lastly, he paid tribute to the sporting spirit in which the close-knit sepaktakraw community within MHA and with other agencies played the game and enjoyed the camaraderie forged.
