Esther 4:13-14: And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: " Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king's palace any more than all the other Jews. For if you remain
completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to
the kingdom for such a time as this?"
Hi Friends,
I am writing this on February 25 as the representatives of our denomination meet in St. Louis to discuss how we will respond to issues surrounding human sexuality. Remember the issue is not whether or not Jesus loves LBGTQ persons. It is not even about whether or not the church loves LBGTQ persons. Jesus loves all persons, and we are called by Christ to show His love to everyone. The question is, “Are we agreeing to marry LBGTQ persons in our churches, and approve of the ordination of these persons?” So, as I write we are uncertain of the results of this called General Conference.
Yesterday evening some of us met in the sanctuary for prayer and Holy Communion and shared the above scripture. As the Hebrew people were facing possible extermination, Mordecai asked Queen Esther to speak with the king. She would do this under the threat of death. Mordecai reminded her, “If you don’t speak up God will send deliverance from another place, but perhaps you have come to this time and place for such a time as this.” She accepted the challenge, spoke to the king, and the people of God were saved.
Have you stopped to think that God has put us in this place and time “for such a time as this?” I did not have to answer the call into ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church all those years ago. I had other opportunities in other denominations. But, perhaps it was for such a time as this that God has put me here. Perhaps it is for such a time as this that God has put YOU here. God will redeem his people with or without us. I hope and pray He can do it with us. Don’t you?
Thank You for Your Faithfulness! Jesus Loves You! I Love You Too!
