“The March wind roarsLike a lion in the sky,And makes us shiverAs he passes by.

When winds are soft,And the days are warm and clear,Just like a gentle lamb,Then spring is here.”

Krista’s Fun IdeasHere are some fun ideas I have come across recently that I just had to share with you girls! I’m always looking for ways to spice up our daily routine and thought these were great!

On-the-go photo show

Tired of your kids watching mindless cartoons while on a road trip or driving around town? Use your cars DVD player to showcase your families’ greatest moments! Burn a DVD of pictures or of home movies to take your family down memory lane…or at least a little further down the road with no fits!

Boredom Buster Block

Remember the cute “Days until Christmas” blocks we made in December? Use a block similar to that to “Block out Boredom” this Spring Break or Summer. Deco-rate a wooden block with pictures of fun activities, such as reading, coloring, legos, playing outside, etc. Roll the block to find something to do!

Give Breakfast A Glow

Does one of your kids have a birthday coming up? If so, start the day with some happy birthday pancakes! Make the birthday kid special pancakes by adding food color to the batter and candles to the finished product! We have also made special pink birthday syrup by mixing strawberry preserves with orange juice! Sorry! I’m a mother to girls! Maybe you could try blueberry jelly for boys?!?

Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.

Psalm 127:3

Please don’t forget your dates! We mommas need energy to chase after all our preschoolers!

We are filling positions for next year, and we would love to have you be a part. We need discussion group leaders as well as some new members for the steering team. If this is something you have any inter-est in, please contact Krista. She will be glad to give you more details like what positions are open, what the time commitments would be like, and what your responsibilities would be. Pray about serving the Lord and your fellow moms in this capacity. When you are ready to find out more, call Krista at 806-392-6061 or email her at [email protected]

MOPS Steering Team is looking for a few good women!

Experiment of the Month: Osmosis

Meet Your Steering Team: Christi BrooksWhat is your

husband’s name?Toby Brooks

What are your kids names and

ages?Brynnan is 7 and

Taye is 4

What is one thing people might not know about you?

We move around a lot. We have had 16 addresses in 13 years of marriage. (and we

are not military)

What did you do before you were a mom?I was a school at-risk coordinator and got

my school counseling degree. What is your favorite snack?

Chocolate in any form.

What do you do to relax?

I curl up with a blanket, a good book, and some

chocolate.

What is the best piece of advice you could give to a new mom?

Don’t worry about spoiling your children by holding them too much. All too soon they won’t want to be held and then you will regret all the moments you didn’t cuddle

with them.

Directions:

Slice a small potato lengthwise into several pieces that each have two flat sides. Place some of the pieces in one dish and the rest in another. Fill both dishes with water. Add two tablespoons of salt to one of the dishes, and label it “salt water.” Let the potatoes soak for 15 minutes.

Observation:

Compare the potatoes. Is there a difference in firmness?

Explanation:

Through osmosis, water moves from areas of low salt concentra-tions to areas of high salt concentrations. Adding salt to the water creates a higher salt concentration in the dish than in the potato. Consequently, water in a potato that is soaking in salt water mi-grates out, leaving behind a limp spud!

Book Nook Taking Care of the Me in Mommy

by Lisa Whelchel I hate to go back to the same author twice in one year, but this book is so fabu-lous that I just couldn’t help myself. I got this book for Christmas and have just gotten a chance to start reading it. We as mothers get so very busy taking care of everyone else that sometimes we neglect to take care of ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. Lisa recognizes the areas where we tend to neglect ourselves and provides a few short pages of expla-nation as to why this area of our lives is important. After each chapter she provides what she calls “rest stops” that contain tons of tips to help moms find the time to implement what the chapter addressed. These rest stops are amazing! Yes, I know that I would be a happier mommy if I took the time to praise the Lord and memorize Scripture, but when will I find the time? Lisa shows how we can incorporate praise and memorization into our everyday lives (and the lives of our children). There are sections on cooking, cleaning, spending time with friends, pursuing hobbies, and so much more. I can’t wait to implement some of the suggestions. And if you purchase the book you can even sign up for personal coaching with Lisa where you choose the area you want to improve on first and you get an email from her every day for 21 days with encouragements to make positive changes. If you do something to implement the suggestion for that day, then you get to click on an “I did it” link. I think this will be super helpful for me because I have been known to add an item to my shopping list after putting it in my cart just so I can check it off my list. We must make sure we are adequately taking care of ourselves so we can give our family an energetic and fun mom instead of the worn out and frazzled one we so often show them.

Peek at Next MonthSince we missed Gabi last month due to illness, we have persuaded her to come back in April to talk to us about the Sensual Christian Woman. You won’t want to miss this month for sure!

What your MOPPETS are learning this

monthThis month the kiddos will be learning about the walls of Jericho from Joshua 5 & 6. They will learn that God is very powerful and can do anything. God desires us to have faith. Walking around the walls of Jeri-cho and blowing trumpets did not really seem like it would work, and it would not have without God. But the people did exactly what God said to do and it worked. God wants us to obey Him even if it seems a bit unusual, because God can do anything. The kiddos will be making torches and acting out the story.

Speaker of the Month: Cassie Cooper Growing up a preacher’s daugh-ter, I moved around the state of Tex-as several times. Throughout many moves, the one constant in my life was always coming “home” to West Texas for every holiday to see fam-ily. My mom’s family ranch is near Quitaque and my dad’s folks lived in Lockney, so we spent many a road trip traveling to the South Plains. After graduating high school in East Texas, I couldn’t WAIT to come out here myself and attend Tech. (The fact that this meant moving seven hours AWAY from Mom and Daddy had absolutely nothing…or every-thing…to do with this decision.) I moved to Lubbock in August of 2002 to pursue a degree in Busi-ness Finance.

Shortly thereafter, I became involved in the preschool department here at Southcrest Baptist Church. I began just working in the rooms on Sunday and Wednesday nights. I have always spent time with children and helping out in the nurseries at my home church. After being burned in the business world where I worked in insurance and real estate, I needed to work more hours than just Sunday and Wednesday nights. Jerri put me to work subbing at KDO and I fell in LOVE with being a teacher. After subbing a year, I have been a 3 year-old teacher for almost 5 years and have been working in the preschool department for almost 9 years.

In addition to teaching at KDO on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I now manage the Preschool desk on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights, babysit a precious little girl on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, pick up my cousins from school in Tahoka, and baby-sit some on the weekends. I’m also very involved in our Southcrest Graduates and Professionals (GAP) Singles department and enjoy spending time with my extended family and friends when I can.

Southcrest KDO Registration OpenWould you like a few hours a week to get some things done or to let

your little one socialize with friends his own age?

If so, then Southcrest’s KDO program may be just the thing for you. Children attend this amazing program two days per week. They have lessons, attend music classes, enjoy playtime, make arts and crafts, eat snacks, and take naps. You will be amazed at how much they learn and how much fun they have learning it!

KDO is now registering for Summer and Fall classes. Space is limited and filling up fast.

Ages 6 weeks-5 years.

Please contact Jerri Doggett at 776-0538 [email protected] for more information or to sign your child up.

Car Seat Safety Check

One study found that 72% of nearly 3,500 observed car and booster seats were misused in a way that could be expected to increase a child’s risk of injury during a crash. Child safety seats reduce the risk of death in passen-ger cars by 71% for infants, and by 54% for toddlers ages 1 to 4 years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends booster seats for children until they are at least 8 years of age or 4’9” tall.

Let’s make sure we are using safety seats correctly!

Be sure to attend the Car Seat Saftey Check Point and Bike Rodeo at Second Baptist Church. People will be able to have their booster and car seats checked to ensure they are being used properly. Kids will also be able to bring their bikes and helmets and go through a safety obstacle course. There will be some new helmets given away to those that have ill fitting hel-mets or don’t have one at all.

Did you know that child restraint systems are often used incorrectly?
