Biografien
Marcus Appelbaum ist seit 2010 Leiter der Abteileung Law, Justice, and Society
Initiatives des United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington
D.C. (US). Zuvor war er dort von 2004 bis 2010 Programmkoordinator des
Community Leadership Program. Von 2006 bis 2009 absolvierte er den Master of
Science in Museum Leadership am The Bank Street College of Education in New
York (US). Zuvor war er Koordinator für die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit sowie für
Community Partnerships am USHMM. Von 1998 bis 2004 war er als
Museumsbotschafter im Bereich Community Partnerships tätig.
Marcus Appelbaum has been head of the Law, Justice, and Society Initiatives department of the
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington D.C. (US) since 2010. Previously
he was program coordinator for the Community Leadership Program there from 2004 until 2010.
From 2006 until 2009 he completed his Master of Science in Museum Leadership at The Bank Street
College of Education in New York (US). Prior to that he was a coordinator for Public relations and
Community partnerships at the USHMM. From 1998 until 2004 he acted as a museum ambassador in
the Community Partnerships field.
Alejandro Baer ist Assistant Professor am Institut für Sozialanthropologie an der
Universidad Complutense de Madrid und zurzeit Wissenschaftlicher Assistent am
Lehrstuhl Kultur- und Religionssoziologie an der Universität Bayreuth. Seine

Alejandro Baer is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Social Anthropology at the Universidad
Complutense de Madrid and currently Research Assistant at the Cultural and Religious Sociology
professorship at the University of Bayreuth. His research focuses are: remembrance cultures, Jewish
Studies (focus 20th century / Spain), anti-Semitism research, cultural sociology. Author of the

Biografien
Susanne Beer ist Junior Fellow am Kulturwissenschaftlichen Institut Essen im
Forschungsprojekt „Referenzrahmen des Helfens“. Sie schreibt ihre Promotion über
biografische Karrieren sogenannter „Judenhelfer“ im Nationalsozialismus. Zuvor
studierte sie Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaften an der Humboldt-Universität zu
Berlin und am Institut d’Études Politiques in Toulouse. Pädagogisch war sie tätig in
der historisch-politischen Jugendbildung für Gewerkschaften und freie Träger, u.a.
für das Netzwerk Demokratie und Courage und die Mahn- und Gedenkstätte
Ravensbrück. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Politische Philosophie der Moderne,
Kultursoziologie und Nationalsozialismus.
Susanne Beer is a Junior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities, Essen in the
“Reference framework for assistance” research project. She is preparing her doctoral thesis on
biographical careers of so-called “Jew helpers” under National Socialism. Prior to that she studied
cultural and social sciences at Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in
Toulouse. Her teaching experience includes historical-political youth education for trade unions and
private welfare agencies, for example the Network for Democracy and Courage and the Ravensbrück
Memorial Site. Her research focuses are political philosophy of the modern age, cultural sociology
and National Socialism.
Deidre Berger leitet seit Januar 2000 das Berliner Büro/Lawrence and Lee Ramer Institute for
German-Jewish Relations des American Jewish Committee. In Amerika geboren, kam Frau Berger als
Journalistin nach Deutschland und berichtete, u.a. über den Fall der Mauer, für das öffentliche
amerikanische Radio und verschiedene Zeitungen. Das American Jewish Committee in Berlin
unterstützt die Förderung von Pluralismus, Toleranz und Demokratie.
Deidre Berger has been director of the Berliner Büro/Lawrence and Lee Ramer Institute for German-
Jewish Relations of the American Jewish Committee since January 2000. Born in America, Ms. Berger
came to Germany as a journalist; her reporting included the fall of the Wall for American commercial
radio and various newspapers. The American Jewish Committee in Berlin supports the promotion of
pluralism, tolerance and democracy.
Ina Boesch ist Kulturwissenschaftlerin und Publizistin (Sachbücher, Kulturkanal des
Schweizer Radios, Buchbeilage der NZZ am Sonntag). Sie arbeitete als
Kulturredakteurin bei Schweizer Radio DRS sowie als Dozentin mit den
Schwerpunkten Zeitgeschichte, Biografieforschung, Migration/Transkulturalität.
2008 veröffentlichte sie das Sachbuch "Grenzfälle. Von Flucht und Hilfe, fünf
Geschichten aus Europa".
Ina Boesch is a cultural researcher and publicist (reference books, Swiss radio
culture channel, book supplement in the NZZ am Sonntag). She has worked as cultural editor at
Schweizer Radio DRS as well as a lecturer with the focuses contemporary history, biographical
research, migration/transculturality. She published the reference book, “Grenzfälle. Von Flucht und
Hilfe, fünf Geschichten aus Europa” in 2008.

Claire Campbell arbeitet zurzeit an der Lancaster University im Rahmen eines
EPSRC-Stipendiums an einer Untersuchung, wie Gruppenidentität und Gewalt das
Eingreifen von Zuschauern in virtueller Realität und im wirklichen Leben
beeinflussen. Zuvor promovierte sie an der National University of Ireland,
Maynooth im Bereich implizite Kognition. Im Rahmen dessen erforschte sie
implizite Einstellungen zu sozialen Erscheinungen wie Rasse sowie klinische
Phänomene wie psychologische Akzeptanz und Selbstwertgefühl. Ihre
Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen Gewalt, Gruppenzugehörigkeit, implizite Kognition und den
Gebrauch von neuen Technologien für die Weiterentwicklung der Sozialpsychologie.
Claire Campbell is currently, as part of an EPSRC scholarship, working at Lancaster University on an
investigation into how group identity and violence influence bystander intervention in virtual reality
and in real life. Prior to this she gained her doctorate at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth
in the field of implicit cognition. Within the scope of that she researched implicit attitudes to social
aspects such as race, and clinical phenomena such as psychological acceptance and self-esteem. The
focuses of her research include violence, group affiliation, implicit cognition and the use of new
technologies for the advancement of social psychology.
Marten Düring ist seit 2008 Junior Fellow am Kulturwissenschaftlichen Institut
Essen. Er promoviert im Projekt „Referenzrahmen des Helfens“ über
Helfernetzwerke für Verfolgte während des Zweiten Weltkrieges. Gefördert durch
ein Jahresstipendium des DAAD schloss er 2006 seinen Masterstudiengang „War,
Culture and History“ an der University of Manchester (GB) ab. Zuvor absolvierte er
2004 seinen Bachelorstudiengang „Europäische Kulturgeschichte“ an der
Universität Augsburg. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen in der historischen Netzwerkanalyse,
transnationalen Perzeptions- und Austauschprozessen, den memory studies und der Untersuchung
autobiographischen Erinnerns.
Marten Düring has been a Junior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities since
2008. He gained his doctorate in the project, “Reference framework for assistance via helper
networks for the persecuted during the Second World War.” Funded by an annual grant from the
DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), in 2006 he completed his Master’s degree studies in
“War, Culture and History” at the University of Manchester (GB). Prior to that in 2004 he completed
his Bachelor’s degree studies on “European Cultural History” at the University of Augsburg. His
research focuses lie in historical network analysis, transnational perception and exchange processes,
memory studies and autobiographical remembering.
Franziska Ehricht ist seit 1998 in der interkulturellen historisch-politischen
Jugendbildungsarbeit tätig. Sie führt Seminare zu den Themen Nationalsozialismus,
Antisemitismus, Nahostkonflikt, jüdische Geschichte sowie Beziehungsgeschichte
zwischen Judentum, Christentum und Islam durch. Zu diesen Themenkomplexen
entwickelt sie auch didaktische Materialien. An der Freien Universität Berlin und
der Hebräischen Universität Jerusalem studierte sie Judaistik, Islamwissenschaft

Franziska Ehricht has been performing intercultural historico-civic youth education work since 1998.
She conducts seminars on the topics of National Socialism, anti-Semitism, Middle East conflict,
Jewish history, and relationship history between Judaism, Christianity and Islam. She also devises
teaching materials on these topical complexes. At the Free University of Berlin and the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem she studied Jewish studies, Islam studies and educational science. In 2009
she published with Elke Gryglewski the volume: “Sharing Histories” – A document case for
intercultural pedagogy on National Socialism” (GeschichteN teilen. Dokumentenkoffer für eine
interkulturelle Pädagogik zum Nationalsozialismus).
Isabel Enzenbach ist als Ev. Theologin und Historikerin wissenschaftliche
Mitarbeiterin am Zentrum für Antisemitismusforschung. Ihre
Forschungsschwerpunkte sind: Jüdische Geschichte und Gegenwart,
Nationalsozialismus, Antisemitismus und Vorurteile in der Geschichtsdidaktik,
historisches Lernen in der Grundschule.
Isabel Enzenbach is an Evangelical theologian and historian and works in this
capacity as a research employee at the Center for Anti-Semitism Research. The focuses of her
research are: Jewish past and present, National Socialism, anti-Semitism and prejudices in history
didactics, history learning at primary school.
Silvia Fehrmann ist Literaturwissenschaftlerin und Journalistin und leitet seit
Februar 2008 den Bereich Kommunikation am Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.
Von 2004 bis 2007 verantwortete sie die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit der Volksbühne am
Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz nach einer Station als Korrespondentin argentinischer
Medien in New York. Im Jahr 2000 initiierte sie die spanischsprachige Version des
Internetangebotes „Lernen aus der Geschichte. Pädagogische Anregungen und
didaktisches Material für Projekte, Unterricht, Schule und historisches Lernen über
NS, Holocaust und Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts“. In ihrer Geburtsstadt Buenos Aires arbeitete sie
am Goethe-Institut als Referentin für Presse und Sponsoring, unterrichtete an der dortigen
Universität und schrieb für Tages- und Wochenzeitungen über Kunst und Kultur.
Silvia Fehrmann is a literary scholar and journalist and, since February 2008, has been head of
Communications at the “Haus der Kulturen der Welt” in Berlin. From 2004 until 2007 she was
responsible for public relations at the “Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz” following a spell as a
correspondent for Argentine media in New York. In 2000 she initiated the Spanish-speaking version
of the internet presentation, “Learning from History. Pedagogic Prompts and Didactic Material for
Projects, Teaching, School and Historical Learning about National Socialism, Holocaust and 20th-
Century History.” In the city of her birth, Buenos Aires, she worked at the Goethe Institute as a
consultant for press relations and sponsoring, taught at the university there and wrote about art and
culture for daily and weekly newspapers.

Julia Franz arbeitet seit 2008 an ihrem Dissertationsprojekt „Auseinandersetzung
mit Zugehörigkeit und Fremdheit bei Jugendlichen mit muslimischem Hintergrund“.
Von 2008 bis 2010 erhielt sie eine Förderung durch das Alice-Salomon-Stipendium.
Seit 2009 hat sie einen Lehrauftrag an der Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin im
Bereich „Ethik der Sozialen Arbeit“ und „Rekonstruktive Soziale Arbeit“. Von 2009
bis 2010 war sie freie Mitarbeiterin im Dom Edyty Stein, Wrocław, Polen, beim
Projekt „indifference hurts“. 2009 war sie freie Mitarbeiterin im Museum
Blindenwerkstatt Otto Weidt. Bereits seit 2008 ist sie als freie Mitarbeiterin im Anne Frank Zentrum
tätig und seit 2007 freie Referentin. Sie schreibt u.a. für die Evangelische Akademie Loccum,
Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Humanity in Action, Netzwerk Migration in Europa e.V., Politische

Christoph Hamann ist Historiker und Pädagoge und arbeitet seit 2002
hauptberuflich am Landesinstitut für Schule und Medien Berlin-Brandenburg und
seit 2007 in Ludwigsfelde. Er ist Lehrbeauftragter an der Technischen Universität
Berlin (Institut für Gesellschaftswissenschaften und historisch-politischen Bildung)
und hat mit einer Arbeit zum Thema Visual History promoviert. Seine
Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen im Bereich der Visual History, der Zeitgeschichte und
Geschichtsdidaktik. Das Studium der Geschichte, Germanistik, Politik und der
Soziologie in Erlangen und Berlin hat er mit dem Staatsexamen für das Lehramt abgeschlossen.
Christoph Hamann is a historian and pedagogue and, since 2002, has pursued his principal career at
the State Institute for School and Media in Berlin-Brandenburg and, since 2007, in Ludwigsfelde. He is
a lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin (Institute for Social Sciences and Education in History
and Politics) and gained his doctorate with a dissertation on the topic of visual history. The focuses of
his work lie in the field of visual history, contemporary history and history didactics. He completed
studies in history, German Studies, politics and sociology in Erlangen and Berlin with the state exam
in teaching.
Gerd Hankel arbeitet seit 2002 an einer Untersuchung über die juristische
Aufarbeitung des Genozids in Ruanda. Er ist bereits seit 1993 freier Mitarbeiter und
seit 1998 wissenschaftlicher Angestellter des Hamburger Instituts für
Sozialforschung. Von 2000 bis 2001 war er Mitarbeiter im Team der Ausstellung
„Verbrechen der Wehrmacht. Dimensionen des Vernichtungskriegs 1941-1944“.
Zuvor war er von 1984 bis 1988 als Dolmetscher für Französisch und Spanisch sowie
als Lehrer an einer Höheren Handelsschule tätig. Er studierte Sprachwissenschaften und Völkerrecht
in Mainz, Granada und Bremen.
Gerd Hankel has been working since 2002 on an investigation into the legal process of coming to
terms with the genocide in Rwanda. He started working as a freelancer in 1993 and, since 1998, has
been a research employee at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research. From 2000 until 2001 he was
employed in the team for the exhibition, “Crimes of the Wehrmacht. Dimensions of the War of
Extermination 1941-1944.” Prior to that he was employed from 1984 until 1988 as an interpreter in
French and Spanish and as a lecturer at a commercial college. He studied linguistics and international
law in Mainz, Granada and Bremen.
Matthias Haß ist freiberuflich in den Bereichen Geschichtspolitik in internationaler
Perspektive, politische Bildungsarbeit und interkulturelle Begegnungen tätig. Von
2005 bis 2009 war er Landesbeauftragter USA von Aktion Sühnezeichen
Friedensdienste in Philadelphia (USA), nachdem er 2004 eine Post-Doc-Stelle an der
York University in Toronto hatte. Von 2004 bis 2005 arbeitete er bei der
Entwicklung der neuen Dauerausstellung in der Gedenk- und Bildungsstätte Haus
der Wannseekonferenz mit. 2003 war er an der Vorbereitung einer Konferenz zur
Gestaltung der Topographie des Terrors in Zusammenarbeit mit der Bundeszentrale für politische
Bildung beteiligt. Pädagogischer Mitarbeiter war er von 1996 bis 2004 bei der Stiftung Topographie
des Terrors und von 2000 bis 2005 bei der Gedenk- und Bildungsstätte Haus der Wannseekonferenz

Politikwissenschaft ab.
Matthias Haß works as a free lancer in the fields of politics of memory and international exchange
programs. He was the director of the U.S. program of Action Reconciliation Service for Peace in
Philadelphia from 2005 - 2009. He studied Political Science at the Free University of Berlin and
specialized in the field of Historical Foundations of politics and the Politics of Memory. Over the last
ten years Mr. Hass has organized a number of international exchange seminars for Canadian, Polish,
German and American students with different organizations and universities. He has taught at the
Free University in Berlin and York University in Toronto. From the mid 90’s on he has worked at
several memorial sites to the Nazi past, among them the Topography of Terror Foundation and the
House of the Wannsee conference memorial site and education center in Berlin.
Ethan J. Hollander ist Assistenzprofessor für Politikwissenschaften am Wabash
College in Crawfordsville, Indiana (USA). Momentan schreibt er an seinem Buch
„Swords or Shields? Implementing and Subverting the Final Solution in German-
Occupied Europe“. Darin geht es um die Frage, warum während des 2. Weltkrieges
vorwiegend die jüdische Bevölkerung in den von Deutschland besetzten Gebieten
zum Opfer wurde. Für seine Nachforschungen war er am Zentrum für
Antisemitismusforschung in Berlin und am Yad Vashem in Jerusalem tätig. Er
promovierte 2006 an der University of California, San Diego (US).
Ethan J. Hollander is Assistant Professor in political sciences at Wabash College in Crawfordsville,
Indiana (USA). He is currently working on his book, “Swords or Shields? Implementing and Subverting
the Final Solution in German-Occupied Europe.” This book deals with the question of why, during the
2nd World War, it was predominantly the Jewish population that was victimized in the regions
occupied by Germany. While pursuing his research he worked at the Centre for Anti-Semitic Research
in Berlin and at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. He gained his doctorate at the University of California, San
Diego (US) in 2006.
Kai Jonas ist seit 2008 Assistant Professor für Sozialpsychologie an der Universität
von Amsterdam (NL). Zuvor arbeitete er als Post-Doc und Lehrstuhlassistent von
Prof. Dr. Amélie Mummendey an der Universität Jena. Seine Promotion schloss er
2002 in Sozialpsychologie an der Universität Göttingen ab. Seine
Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Analyse von bewussten und unbewussten
Verhaltensmustern in komplexen Situationen, beispielsweise Hilfeleistung oder
Umgang mit Erniedrigung. Seit 2000 arbeitet er an der Entwicklung, Evaluation und
Implementierung von Zivilcourage-Trainings und führt damit verbundene Grundlagenforschung
durch. Er ist zudem als Berater in der Konzeption und Umsetzung von Präventionsprogrammen für
Städte und Kommunen tätig und Jury-Mitglied für verschiedene Zivilcourage-Preise.
Kai Jonas has been Assistant Professor of social psychology at the University of Amsterdam (NL) since
2008. Prior to that he worked as a post-doc and professorial assistant to Prof. Amélie Mummendey at

patterns in complex situations, for example the provision of assistance or dealing with humiliation.
Since 2000 he has been working on the development, evaluation and implementation of training
courses in moral courage and conducting basic research in this regard. Additionally he acts as an
advisor in the devising and implementation of prevention programs for cities and municipalities and
as a jury member for various moral courage awards.
Kobi Kabalek arbeitet derzeit an einer Dissertation mit dem Thema: „Die
Erinnerung an die Rettung von Juden in Deutschland, 1933-2000.“ Er studierte an
der Ben-Gurion Universität in Israel und an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Seit
2007 ist er Promotionsstudent an der University of Virginia, USA. Seine
Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Erinnerungs- und Kulturgeschichte in Deutschland
und in Israel. Er war und ist außerdem an verschiedenen Oral-History-Projekten
beteiligt, u.a. am „Mauthausen Survivors Research Project“.
Kobi Kabalek is currently working on a dissertation discussing the topic: “Remembering the Rescuing
of Jews in Germany, 1933-2000.” He studied at Ben-Gurion University in Israel and at Humboldt
University in Berlin. Since 2007 he has been a doctoral candidate at the University of Virginia, USA.
His research focuses are remembrance and cultural history in Germany and in Israel. Additionally he
has been and is involved in various oral history projects, including the “Mauthausen Survivors
Research Project.”
Reinhard Kahl ist Journalist und Filmemacher. Er arbeitet für verschiedene
Rundfunkanstalten und Zeitungen. In ZEIT-ONLINE schreibt er die Bildungskolumne
„Wurzeln und Flügel“ und in der Zeitschrift PÄDAGOGIK die Kolumne „PS“. Im
Hamburger Literaturhaus ist er Gastgeber des monatlich stattfindenden
Philosophischen Cafés. 2007 gründete er das Netzwerk „Archiv der Zukunft“,
nachdem er 2004 das Projekt „Archiv der Zukunft“ mit Dokumentationen über
Bildung, die gelingt, initiiert hatte. 1996 erhielt er den CIVIS-Preis und den Preis der
CIVIS-Jugend-Jury für die fünfteilige ZDF/3sat Serie „Aufbruch – die Kraft der Einwanderer“. 1986
erhielt Reinhard Kahl den Wang-Journalisten-Preis für die NDR Fernsehsendung „Der kleine Bruder –
wie Computer die Welt verändern“ und 1987 (mit anderen) den Grimme-Preis für die NDR Serie
„Kindsein ist kein Kinderspiel“.
Reinhard Kahl is a journalist and film-maker. He works for various broadcasters and newspapers. On
ZEIT-ONLINE he is author of the education column, “Wurzeln und Flügel” and in the magazine
PÄDAGOGIK of the column, “PS.” He is the host of the monthly Philosophical Café at Literaturhaus
Hamburg. In 2007 he founded the network “Archive of the Future” (Archiv der Zukunft) after
initiating the “Archive of the Future” – project, featuring documentation of education that succeeds,
in 2004. In 1996 he received the CIVIS award and the award from the CIVIS Youth Jury for the five-

Yael Kareth spielte als Klaviersolistin bereits mit zahlreichen Orchestern, wie z.B.
den Israelischen Philharmonikern, den Tel Aviv Solisten, der Israelischen Oper, dem
Thelma Yelin Orchester und dem Raanana Orchester, unter Dirigenten wie Zubin
Mehta, Omer Welber, Avner Biron und anderen. 2009 spielte sie als Solistin eine
Europa-Tournee mit dem West-Eastern Divan Orchestra unter der Leitung von
Daniel Barenboim. In diesem Rahmen trat sie auch als Kammermusikerin mit
zeitgenössischen Kompositionen bei den Salzburger Festspielen auf. Yael Kareth
musizierte auch in zahlreichen Kammermusik-Konzerten unter anderen mit Guy Braunstein, Klaus
Thunemann, Amihai Grosz, Asher Fish, Avri Levitan und Valentin Radutiu. Sie ist zudem Mitglied des

Yael Kareth has played as a piano soloist with numerous orchestras, such as, for example the Israeli
Philharmonic, the Tel-Aviv Soloists, the Israeli Opera, the Thelma Yelin Orchestra and the Raanana
Orchestra, under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Omer Welber, Avner Biron and others. In 2009
she performed a solo tour of Europe with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under the conductorship
of Daniel Barenboim. She also appeared in this context as a chamber musician featuring

Alfons Kenkmann ist seit 2003 Professor für Geschichtsdidaktik am Historischen
Seminar und Direktor des Zentrums für Lehrerbildung und Schulforschung der
Universität Leipzig (2005-2010). Zuvor war er von 1998 bis 2003 wissenschaftlicher
Leiter und Geschäftsführer des Geschichtsortes Villa ten Hompel in Münster. Von
1994 bis 1998 war er als Hochschulassistent am Institut für Didaktik der Geschichte
des Historischen Seminars der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster tätig,
1993/94 war er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Forschungsstelle für
Zeitgeschichte in Hamburg. Er promovierte 1994 an der Universität Siegen zum Thema „Wilde
Jugend. Lebenswelt großstädtischer Jugendlicher zwischen Weltwirtschaftskrise und
Währungsreform“, nachdem er sein Studium in Geschichte und Germanistik an den Universität
Bochum, Münster und Siegen abgeschlossen hatte. Er hat mehrere Ausstellungsprojekte geleitet und
ist Herausgeber der Villa ten Hompel-Schriften und der ebenfalls dort verankerten Reihe „Didaktische
Bausteine“ sowie des Jahrbuchs des Archivs der deutschen Jugendbewegung.
Alfons Kenkmann has been Professor in history didactics at the Historical Seminary since 2003 and
was Director of the Center for Teacher Training and School Research at the University of Leipzig

as well as of the annual of the archive of the German Youth Movement.
Bernd Körte-Braun ist Historiker und Judaist und seit 2008 Projektmanager des
Projektes „Zeugen der Shoah. Das Visual History Archive in der schulischen Bildung“
am Center für Digitale Systeme (CeDiS) der Freien Universität Berlin. Zuvor war er
bei der Entwicklung multimedialer Anwendungen für den Geschichtsunterricht
beteiligt und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im Ausstellungsbereich.
Bernd Körte-Braun is a historian and Jewish Studies specialist and has been project
manager of the project, “Witnesses of the Shoah. The Visual History Archive in School Education” at
the Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS) at the Free University of Berlin since 2008. Prior to that he took
part in the development of multi-media applications for history teaching and was a research
employee in the exhibition field.
Beate Kosmala arbeitet seit 2005 als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der
Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand und ist dort zuständig für den Aufbau der
Gedenkstätte Stille Helden. Als Assistentin war sie 2000 bis 2001 am International
Institute for Holocaust Research der Gedenkstätte Yad Vashem in Jerusalem tätig.
Von 1997 bis 2002 war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Zentrum für
Antisemitismusforschung der TU Berlin im Forschungsprojekt „Rettung von Juden
im nationalsozialistischen Deutschland 1933-1945“. Seit 1993 absolvierte sie
verschiedene Forschungsaufenthalte in Polen. Sie veröffentlichte mehrere Publikationen zum Thema
Deutsche-Juden-Polen im 20. Jahrhundert. Nach ihrem Studium der Geschichte und Germanistik
arbeitete sie bis 1992 als Gymnasiallehrerin.
Beate Kosmala has been working as a research employee at the German Resistance Memorial Center
since 2005 and is responsible there for the structure of the Silent Heroes Memorial Center. As an
assistant she worked at the International Institute for Holocaust Research of the Yad Vashem
memorial site in Jerusalem from 2000 until 2001. From 1997 until 2002 she was a research employee
at the Center for Anti-Semitism Research at TU Berlin during the research project, “Rescue of Jews in
National Socialist Germany 1933-1945.” She has completed various research internships in Poland
since 1993. She has brought out a number of publications on the topic of Germans-Jews-Poles in the
20th century. Following her studies in history and German Studies she was employed as a high school
teacher until 1992.

Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste in Oświęcim/ Auschwitz, Polen absolvierte.
Jan Krebs has been project head of the exhibition, “7 x jung bei Gesicht Zeigen! Für ein weltoffenes

Thomas Krüger ist Präsident der Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung. Nach seiner
Ausbildung zum Facharbeiter für Plaste- und Elasteverarbeitung in Fürstenwalde
studierte er Theologie in Berlin und Eisenach. 1989 gehörte Krüger zu den
Gründungsmitgliedern der Sozialdemokratischen Partei Deutschlands (SPD) in der
DDR und war bis 1990 Geschäftsführer dieser Partei in Ost-Berlin. Von 1991 bis
1994 gehörte er als Senator für Familie und Jugend dem Kabinett des Regierenden
Bürgermeisters Eberhard Diepgen an. 1994 bis 1998 war er Mitglied des Deutschen
Bundestages, Vorstandsmitglied des Kulturforums der SPD sowie Mitglied in Berlins Internationaler
Stadtkommission. Seit 2003 ist er Mitglied des Beirats beim Geschichtswettbewerb des
Bundespräsidenten.
Thomas Krüger is President of the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Agency for Civic
Education). After his apprenticeship in the field of plastic and elastomer processing in Fürstenwalde,
he studied Theology in Berlin and Eisenach. In 1989, Thomas Krüger was one of the founding
members of the former GDR’s Social Democratic Party (SPD), for which he served as Executive
Secretary in East Berlin. From 1991 to 1994, Thomas Krüger served as Senator for Youth and Family
Affairs under Berlin’s mayor Eberhard Diepgen. From 1994 to 1998 he was a member of the SPD
Kulturforum as well as a member of Berlin’s Internationale Stadtkommission (International City
Committee). Since 2003, he has been an advisory board member of the Geschichtswettbewerb des
Bundespräsidenten (Federal President’s History Competition).

Systemischer Beratung von Organisationen. Seit 1997 arbeitete sie als
Inlandsreferentin der Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste (ASF), wo sie ab 1999
den Projektbereich Interkulturalität leitet. Dort begleitete sie diverse Projekte und
Publikationen zum Arbeitsfeld Geschichte und Migrationsgesellschaft. Ulla Kux ist
Gründungsmitglied des Initiativkreises zur Errichtung einer Internationalen Jugendbegegnungsstätte
in Sachsenhausen. Nach dem Studium arbeitete sie einige Jahre freischaffend in der
Erwachsenenbildung und als Kulturmanagerin vor allem im Bereich Geschichte/ Erinnerungskultur
sowie Migration/ Interkulturelles, z.B. in der Stiftung Topographie des Terrors.
Ulla Kux has been programme developer and programme head of the funding programme,
“Geschichte(n) in Vielfalt” – (Hi)stories in Diversity – at the “Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft”
– Remembrance, Responsibility and Future – foundation since 2007. She completed training in
systemic consulting to organisations from 2005-2007. From 1997 she worked as domestic
spokesperson to Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste (ASF), where she has been head of the
interculturality project area since 1999. There she has supported various projects and publications on
the working field of history and migrant society. Ulla Kux is a founding member of the initiative group
to set up an International Youth Meeting Place in Sachsenhausen. Following her studies she worked
for a number of years as a freelancer in adult education and as a culture manager, primarily in the
field of history/remembrance culture as well as migration/intercultural, for example at the
Topography of Terror foundation.
Avri Levitan ist seit 2010 Professor für Viola und Kammermusik am Zaragoza
Konservatorium (ESP). 2009 wurde er für den BBC Music Magazine Award
nominiert. Zuletzt trat er unter anderem am Wiener Konzerthaus, im Auditorio
Nacional de Madrid, im Art Center Seoul und in der Warschauer Philharmonie auf.
Der Dokumentarfilm „K.364 a journey by train“ über sein Konzert mit dem
Kammerorchester des Polnischen Rundfunks Amadeus in der Nationalen
Philharmonie in Warschau, gedreht von Douglas Gordon, wurde im Rahmen der
Internationalen Filmfestspiele in Venedig, Toronto und Estoril gezeigt.
Avri Levitan has been Professor of viola and chamber music at the Zaragoza Konservatorium (ESP)
since 2010. He was nominated for the BBC Music Magazine Award in 2009. He has most recently
performed, among others, at the Wiener Konzerthaus, at the Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, at Art
Center Seoul and in the Warsaw Philharmonic. The documentary film, “K.364 a journey by train”,
about his concert with the Polish Radio Amadeus Chamber Orchestra at the National Philharmonic in
Warsaw, directed by Douglas Gordon, was shown as part of the international film festivals in Venice,

Bildungskampagnen für die Förderung von Verhaltens- und
Einstellungsveränderung. Seit der Gründung von Keystage Arts ist sie dort mit
involviert und bietet Unterstützung in strategischer Kommunikation und Marketing.
Anna Levy works as an independent PR and communications consultant for not-for-profit
organisations and for public institutions. At the moment she is responsible for the PR of the awarding
body ASDAN. Her focus lies in education campaigns for the promotion of behavioural and attitudinal
change. Since the founding of Keystage Arts she is involved there and offers support in strategic

Martin Liepach ist seit 2009 Mitarbeiter am Pädagogischen Zentrum des Fritz Bauer
Instituts und Jüdischen Museums Frankfurt. Er ist Mitglied u.a. in der
Wissenschaftlichen Arbeitsgemeinschaft des Leo-Baeck-Instituts in Deutschland.
Von 1999 bis 2009 war er am Jüdischen Museum Frankfurt für
museumspädagogische Aufgaben und den Bereich der Lehrerfortbildung zuständig.
1995 schloss er das Zweite Staatsexamen ab, nachdem er 1994 an der FU Berlin
zum Thema „Das Wahlverhalten der jüdischen Bevölkerung: Zur politischen
Orientierung der Juden in der Weimarer Republik“ promoviert hatte. 1994 erhielt er den Preis der
Wolf-Erich-Kellner-Gedächtnisstiftung. Er veröffentlichte zahlreiche Publikationen im
wissenschaftlichen, didaktischen und museumspädagogischen Bereich, darunter zuletzt einen Beitrag
in dem Sammelband „Museen, Migranten, Moderne: Zugänge und Hürden“ (2009).
Martin Liepach has been employed at the Pedagogic Center of the Fritz Bauer Institute and the
Jewish Museum Frankfurt since 2009. He is a member of, among others, the Scientific Working
Committee of the Leo Baeck Institute in Germany. From 1999 until 2009 he was responsible at the

Ladislaus Löb has been professor emeritus at the University of Sussex (UK) since 1998. Prior to that,
between 1963 and 1998 he was employed at the University of Sussex (UK) as teaching assistant,
lecturer and professor in German, as a visiting lecturer at the University of Constance and as visiting
professor at Middlebury College in Vermont (USA). His occupations prior to his university career
included journalism. In addition to numerous publications on German, English and comparative
literary studies his book, “Rezsö Kasztner: The Daring Rescue of Hungarian Jews” was published in
2009 (German 2010: “Geschäfte mit dem Teufel: Die Tragödie des Judenretters Rezsö Kasztner”).
Dagmara Mańka-Wizor ist Mitarbeiterin des Warschauer Center for Citizenship
Education. Seit mehr als 5 Jahren arbeitet sie für polnische NGOs. Sie war zunächst
für die KARTA Center Foundation, unter anderem als Koordinatorin für das
Dokumentationsprojekt „Polish citizens – Victims of the World War II“ tätig (das
Projekt konnte Kooperationen mit einigen nationalen und internationalen
Instituten eingehen, auch Institute, die sich mit dem Thema Holocaust
beschäftigen). Anschließend arbeitete sie als Projektkoordinatorin im Bereich
Bildung und Existenzgrundlage in humanitären Missionen im Südsudan. Sie schloss ihr Studium 2001
an der Universität Warschau ab und war zunächst für einige Jahre im wissenschaftlichen Bereich
tätig.
Dagmara Maoka-Wizor graduated at Warsaw University in 2001; after few years scientific work, she
has bounded herself professionally with third sector. So far more than 5 years she has been working
in Polish NGOs – first in KARTA Center Foundation, inter alia as coordinator of documentary project
“Polish citizens - Victims of the World War II” (project gained in cooperation with dozen national and
international institutions, including those dealing with the Holocaust), than as an education and
livelihood projects coordinator in humanitarian mission in South Sudan, finally she continues her
work and interest-development in Center for Citizenship Education.
Thomas de Mazière ist seit 2009 Bundesminister des Innern und war von 2005 bis

Thomas de Mazière has been German Interior Minister since 2009 and was Chief of the Federal
Chancellor’s Office and a Federal Minister from 2005 until 2009. Prior to that, from 2004 until 2005,
he was State Minister of the Interior in Saxony as well as a Member of the Saxon Landtag. From 2002
until 2004 he was State Minister of Justice in Saxony. From 2001 until 2002 he officiated as State
Minister of Finance in Saxony following his role, from 1999, as State Minister and Chief of the Saxon
State Chancellery. From 1994 until 1998 he was Chief of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State
Chancellery and, from 1990 until 1994, State Secretary at the Education and Cultural Affairs Ministry
of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In 1990 he participated in the creation of the office of
Minister President of the final GDR government and was a member of the negotiating delegation for
the unification treaty. Prior to that, from 1985 until 1989, he was head of the policy department of
the Senate Chancellery of the State of Berlin and press spokesman of the CDU faction at the Berlin
House of Representatives. In 1983 he was an employee of the Governing Mayors of Berlin, Richard

Angelika Meyer ist seit 2008 Mitarbeiterin der Pädagogischen Dienste der Mahn-

Ausstellungs- und Publikationsprojekts „Ohne zu zögern/ Varian Fry; Berlin -–
Marseille – New York“ für den Verein Aktives Museum - Faschismus und
Widerstand in Berlin e. V. und 2005 war sie für die konzeptionelle und inhaltliche
Gestaltung des „Anne Frank Webguides“ im Auftrag des Anne Frank Zentrums
Berlin und Amsterdam verantwortlich. Als freie Mitarbeiterin war sie von 1996 bis 2008 bei der
Stiftung Topographie des Terrors tätig. Von 1996 bis 2004 war sie Mitarbeiterin der pädagogischen
Abteilung der Mahn- und Gedenkstätte Ravensbrück. 1998 arbeitete sie bei der Ausstellung
„Jugendschutzlager Uckermark“ an der Mahn- und Gedenkstätte Ravensbrück/ Stiftung
Brandenburgische Gedenkstätten mit. Sie studierte Politikwissenschaft an der Freien Universität
Berlin.
Angelika Meyer has been a pedagogical services employee at the Ravensbrück Memorial Site since
2008 and has been performing historico-civic education and research work since 1996. Prior to that
she was, from 2005 until 2007, project head of the exhibition and publication project, “Ohne zu
zögern / Varian Fry; Berlin – Marseille – New York” for the “Verein Aktives Museum - Faschismus und
Widerstand in Berlin e.V.” and, in 2005, she was responsible for the design and content of the “Anne
Frank Webguide” on assignment by the Anne Frank Centre in Berlin and Amsterdam. As a freelancer
she worked at the Topography of Terror foundation from 1996 until 2008. From 1996 until 2004 she
was employed at the pedagogical department of Ravensbrück Memorial Site. In 1998 she
collaborated on the “Jugendschutzlager Uckermark” exhibition at Ravensbrück Memorial Site /
Brandenburg Memorial Sites Foundation. She studied political sciences at the Free University of

Biografien
Bob Moore ist Professor für Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts an der University of
Sheffield (UK). Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt in der Flüchtlingsgeschichte, dem
zivilen Widerstand während des Zweiten Weltkriegs, Kriegsgefangene und der
Holocaust. Er publizierte „Victims and Survivors: The Nazi Persecution of the Jews
in the Netherlands 1940-1945“ (1997), „The British Empire and its Prisoners of
War“ (zusammen mit Kent Fedorowich, 2003) und „Refugees from Nazi Germany

Dritten Reich“ (2009) wurde er mit dem Deutschen Jugendliteraturpreis 2010
ausgezeichnet.
Christian Nürnberger is a freelance author. His articles have been published in, among others, Stern
magazine, Die Zeit, Spiegel magazine and GEO. Previously he had been employed as editor at the
Frankfurter Rundschau, Capital and highTech, following his attendance at the Henri-Nannen-Schule
(journalism) after graduating from his studies in theology, philosophy and pedagogy. He was
distinguished with the German Youth Literature Award 2010 for his book, “Mutige Menschen:
Widerstand im Dritten Reich”, 2009 (“Courageous People. For peace, freedom and human rights”).
Heike Radvan ist Erziehungswissenschaftlerin und seit 2002 in der Amadeu Antonio

Helmut Rez ist Trainer und Coach für Organisationskommunikation,
Teamentwicklung und Interkulturelle Kommunikation, Dozent am Center for
Leadership and People Management der Universität München und freier
Mitarbeiter am dortigen Institut für Sozialpsychologie. Seit 1993 ist er
gedenkstättenpädagogischer Referent des Dachauer Forums an der KZ-
Gedenkstätte Dachau. Von 1996 bis 1998 war er Leiter der Besucherbetreuung des
Dachauer Forums an der KZ-Gedenkstätte Dachau und von 1993 bis 1997 war er
Leiter des Arbeitskreises „Zukunft der Gedenkstätte Dachau“, seither arbeitet er an der Entwicklung
von thematischen Schwerpunktführungen und Studientagen für die Gedenkstättenarbeit. Er
absolvierte ein Studium, Aufbaustudium und Forschungsaufenthalte im Bereich
Wirtschaftswissenschaften und Politologie und anschließend in Sozialpsychologie in München, Los
Angeles, Kiel und Washington D.C. In den 1980er und 1990er Jahren war er Lehrbeauftragter an der
University of Southern California und an der University of Maryland.
Helmut Rez is a trainer and coach in organisation communication, teambuilding and intercultural
communication, lecturer at the Center for Leadership and People Management of the University of
Munich and freelancer at the Institute of Social Psychology there. Since 1993 he has been a memorial
sites pedagogy consultant to the Dachau Forum at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site.
From 1996 until 1998 he was head of visitor stewardship in the Dachau Forum at the Dachau
Concentration Camp Memorial site and was head of the working group, “Zukunft der Gedenkstätte
Dachau” – Future of the Dachau memorial site – from 1993 until 1997; since then he has been
working on the development of topical focuses and study days for memorial site work. He completed
studies, postgraduate studies and research internships in the area of economic sciences and
politology and subsequently in social psychology in Munich, Los Angeles, Kiel and Washington D.C. In
the 1980s and 1990s he held lectureships at the University of Southern California and at the
University of Maryland.
Dennis Riffel ist wissenschaftlicher Referent bei Gegen Vergessen – Für Demokratie

Mark Roseman ist Inhaber des Pat M Glazer Chair in Jewish Studies und Professor
für Geschichte an der Indiana University in Bloomington (USA). Von 2010 bis 2011
ist er Ina Levine Invitational Scholar am US Holocaust Memorial Museum in
Washington (USA). Dort arbeitet er an der Geschichte einer linken
Widerstandsgruppe, die mehreren deutschen Juden das Leben gerettet hat. Er
veröffentlichte zahlreiche Publikationen zum Holocaust und zur deutschen

Mark Roseman is the incumbent of the Pat M Glazer Chair in Jewish Studies and Professor of History
at Indiana University in Bloomington (USA). From 2010 until 2011 he is the Ina Levine Invitational
Scholar at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington (USA). There he is working on the
history of a left-wing resistance group that saved the lives of several German Jews. He has brought
out numerous publications on the Holocaust and the German post-war period. He was distinguished
in 2003 with the Geschwister Scholl Award for his study, “The Past in Hiding.” His latest publication
together with Jürgen Matthäus, “Jewish Responses to Persecution, Volume I, 1933-1938,” came out
in 2010.
Barbara Schieb ist seit 2005 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin der Gedenkstätte Stille
Helden in Berlin. Bereits seit 1986 ist sie freiberuflich an verschiedenen Berliner
Gedenkstätten mit den Themenschwerpunkt Judenverfolgung, Widerstand von
Juden und Hilfen für Verfolgte tätig. Sie studierte Geschichte und Germanistik in
Freiburg im Breisgau und in Berlin.
Barbara Schieb has been a researching employee at the Silent Heroes Memorial
Center in Berlin since 2005. She commenced her freelance work at various Berlin
memorial sites as early as 1986; her focal topics are the persecution of Jews, resistance by Jews and
assistance to the persecuted. She read history and German studies in Freiburg im Breisgau and in
Berlin.
Irena Steinfeldt ist seit 2007 Direktorin des Departments Righteous Among the
Nations am Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. Zuvor arbeitete sie mit dem Filmemacher
Claude Lanzmann an der Dokumentation „Shoah“. Am Yad Vashem arbeitete sie an
der Internationalen Schule für Holocaustforschung. Dort entwickelte sie
Unterrichtsmaterialien und arbeitete mit Lehrern aus Israel und aus dem Ausland
zusammen. Von 2001 bis 2007 war sie Assistentin der Geschäftsführung am Yad

Frauke Steinhäuser ist gelernte Journalistin. Sie arbeitet als Geschichtsvermittlerin
und freie Mitarbeiterin einer Hamburger Geschichtswerkstatt. Zu ihren aktuellen
Projekten gehören die Erforschung der Lebensgeschichte von Menschen, für die in
Hamburg Stolpersteine verlegt sind, und die Erstellung von Unterrichtsmaterialien
für Grundschulkinder zum Thema Stolpersteine. Sie entwickelt und betreut zudem
ein Projekt, bei dem Kinder einer Hamburger Hochhaussiedlung ihre Geschichte
und die ihrer Lebensumgebung erforschen und mithilfe neuer Medien
präsentieren.
Frauke Steinhäuser is a trained journalist. She works as a living history performer and consultant to a
Hamburg history workshop. Her current projects include research into the life story of people for
whom memorial stones have been laid in Hamburg – so-called “stumbling stones”– and the
compilation of teaching materials for primary school children on the topic of these “stumbling stone”
memorials to victims of Nazism. She is additionally devising and supporting a project in which
children from a Hamburg high-rise estate research their history and that of their living environment
and present it with the help of new media.
Natan Sznaider ist Professor für Soziologie und lehrt am Academic College in Tel
Aviv, Israel. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Kultursoziologie und politische
Theorie. Zuletzt veröffentlichte Natan Sznaider 2008 „Gedächtnisraum Europa. Die
Visionen des europäischen Kosmopolitismus. Eine jüdische Perspektive“ und 2010
„Human Rights and Memory“.
Natan Sznaider is Professor of sociology and teaches at the Academic College in Tel
Aviv, Israel. His research focuses are cultural sociology and political theory. The most recent
publications by Natan Sznaider are, in 2008, “The Memory Space of Europa: Cosmopolitanism, Jewish
Experience and European Vision“ and, in 2010, “Human Rights and Memory.”
Johannes Tuchel ist Leiter der Stiftung Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand mit
der Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand, der Gedenkstätte Plötzensee, der
Gedenkstätte Stille Helden und dem Museum Blindenwerkstatt Otto Weidt. Seit
2009 lehrt er am Touro College in Berlin und seit 2008 ist er apl. Professor am
Fachbereich Politik- und Sozialwissenschaften (Otto-Suhr-Institut für

Johannes Tuchel is head of the German Resistance Memorial Center Foundation comprising the
German Resistance Memorial Center, the Plötzensee Memorial Center, the Silent Heroes Memorial
Site and Otto Weidt’s Workshop for the Blind Museum. Since 2009 he has been teaching at the Touro
College in Berlin and he has been Adjunct Professor at the political and social sciences faculty (Otto
Suhr Institute for Political Science) of FU Berlin since 2008. He has been employed as a lecturer since
1992 and as a private lecturer since 2001. From 1988 until 1991 he worked at the memorial sites
department at the Senate Chancellery of the State of Berlin after, from 1983 until 1987, he had been
a research employee at the German Resistance Memorial Center. Following his studies in political
science in Hamburg and Berlin he gained his doctorate at the Political Science faculty of FU Berlin
with the dissertation, “Concentration Camps. Organisational History and Function of the Inspection
of Concentration Camps 1934 – 1938.”
Ingrida Vilkiene arbeitet seit 2005 in der Internationalen Kommission zur
Auswertung des Nazi- und des sowjetischen Besatzungsregimes in Litauen. Sie ist
stellvertretende Direktorin und koordiniert die Bildungsprogramme. Ingrida
Vilkiene ist verantwortlich für Lehrerseminare über die historischen
Forschungsergebnisse der Kommission, über den Holocaust und die Auswertung
der Verbrechen gegen die Menschheit. Daneben organisiert sie
Gedenkveranstaltungen an wichtigen litauischen Gedenktagen wie dem Gedenktag
an den litauischen jüdischen Völkermord am 23. September und dem Internationalen Holocaust
Gedenktag am 27. Januar. Sie arbeitet außerdem an der Lazdynai Schule als Geschichtslehrerin.
Ingrida Vilkiene hat 2003 zusammen mit anderen von der Kommission entsandten Lehrern an der
Internationalen Bildungsabteilung in Yad Vashem studiert. Nachdem sie ihre Arbeit für die
Kommission aufgenommen hat, hat sie an mehreren Seminaren in Englisch und Russisch in Yad
Vashem teilgenommen.
Ingrida Vilkiene has worked at the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes of the
Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania since 2005. She is the Co-ordinator of Educational
programs and deputy director. Ingrida Vilkiene is responsible for organizing seminars for teachers
about historical research of the Commission, Holocaust and evaluation of the crimes against
humanity. She also organizes the commemoration of the important historical dates, such as
Lithuanian Jewish Genocide Day on 23 September and International Holocaust Remembrance Day on
27 January. She also works at Lazdynai Secondary School as a teacher of history. Ingrida Vilkiene
studied the Holocaust at the International School in Yad Vashem (Israel) in 2003 when the
International Commission sent her as a teacher together with other Lithuanian teachers. Later, when
she started working at International Commission, Ingrida Vilkiene participated several times in
different seminars in Yad Vashem both in Russian and in English.

Harald Welzer ist Direktor des Center for Interdisciplinary Memory Research in
Essen und leitet Teilprojekte des Forschungsschwerpunktes KlimaKultur am
Kulturwissenschaftlichen Institut Essen (KWI). Er lehrt Sozialpsychologie an der
Universität Sankt Gallen und ist Mitglied zahlreicher wissenschaftlicher Beiräte,
Akademien und Institutionen. Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen in der
Erinnerungs- und Gedächtnisforschung, der Gewaltforschung und in der
kulturwissenschaftlichen Klimafolgenforschung. Im April 2011 erscheint bei S.
Fischer das zusammen mit Sönke Neitzel geschriebene Buch „Soldaten. Protokolle vom Kämpfen,
Töten und Sterben“.
Harald Welzer is Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Memory Research in Essen and heads
sub-projects with the research focus on Climate and Culture at the Institute for Advanced Study in
the Humanities, Essen (KWI). He teaches social psychology at the University of Sankt Gallen and is a
member of numerous scientific advisory boards, academies and institutions. The focuses of his work
lie in memory research, research into violence and in research into the cultural impact of climate.
The book, “Soldaten. Protokolle vom Kämpfen, Töten und Sterben,” co-authored with Sönke Neitzel,
is due for publication by S. Fischer in April 2011.
Wolfram Wette ist seit 1998 apl. Professor für Neueste Geschichte am Historischen
Seminar der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg i. Br. und Ehrenprofessor der
russischen Universität Lipezk. Er ist Mitbegründer der Historischen
Friedensforschung (AHF) und Mitherausgeber der Reihe „Geschichte und Frieden“
und des Jahrbuchs „Frieden und Krieg. Beiträge zur Historischen
Friedensforschung“. Zuvor war er von 1971 bis 1995 Historiker im
Militärgeschichtlichen Forschungsamt (MGFA) in Freiburg im Breisgau. Er
habilitierte 1991, nachdem er 1971 seine Promotion nach dem Studium der Politikwissenschaft,
Geschichte und Philosophie abgeschlossen hatte. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die
Militärgeschichte und Historische Friedensforschung. Für u.a. DIE ZEIT, Frankfurter Rundschau und
Badische Zeitung ist er publizistisch tätig.

Oliver von Wrochem ist seit 2009 Leiter des Studienzentrums der KZ-Gedenkstätte
Neuengamme. Seine Arbeitsgebiete sind vor allem Nationalsozialismus, Zweiter
Weltkrieg, deutsche und europäische Erinnerungskultur im 20. und 21.
Jahrhundert, Strafverfolgung von NS-Gewaltverbrechen, Biografieforschung und
historisch-politische Bildung. Nachdem er 2005 als Hans-Böckler-Stipendiat seine
Promotion abgeschlossen hatte, arbeitete er von 2005 bis 2008 an der Helmut-
Schmidt-Universität Hamburg. Als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter war er bei der
Ausstellung „Dimensionen des Vernichtungskrieges 1941 bis 1944“ des Hamburger Instituts für
Sozialforschung tätig und 2000 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter der Universität Hamburg. Zuvor war er
1999 beim Aufbau eines Museums zur deutsch-deutschen Grenze beteiligt und von 1997 bis 1998
Mitarbeiter der Forschungsstelle für Zeitgeschichte Hamburg.
Oliver von Wrochem has been manager of the study centre at the Neungamme Concentration Camp
Memorial Site since 2009. His working areas are primarily National Socialism, Second World War,
German and European remembrance culture in the 20th and 21st century, prosecution of NS criminals,
biographical research and historico-civic education. After completing his doctorate as a Hans Böckler
scholar in 2005, he worked at Helmut Schmidt University, Hamburg, from 2005 until 2008. As a
research employee he worked on the exhibition, “Dimensionen des Vernichtungskrieges 1941 bis
1944” – Dimensions of the war of extermination 1941 to 1944 – by the Hamburg Institute of Social
Research and, in 2000, as a research employee at the University of Hamburg. Prior to that, in 1999 he
took part in the creation of a museum on the German-German divide and, from 1997 until 1998, was
employed at the Research Centre for History, Hamburg.
Philip Zimbardo ist Psychologe und war Präsident der American Psychological
Association. Er entwickelte und realisierte die mit Preisen ausgezeichnete Serie
„Discovering Psychology“. Als emeritierter Professor der Stanford University hat
Philip Zimbardo mehr als 50 Jahre Psychologie gelehrt und erforscht. Er

Philip Zimbardo is a psychologist and was formerly Chairman of the American Psychological
Association. He devised and realized the prize-winning series, “Discovering Psychology.” As professor
emeritus at Stanford University Philip Zimbardo has taught and researched psychology for more than
50 years. He gained his doctorate at Yale University (USA) in social psychology. During his
professional career his research has had various focuses: shyness, temporal perspectives,
conviction/persuasion, cult, madness, violence, vandalism, political psychology and evil. He became
particularly well-known for his controversial Stanford Prison experiment. Philip Zimbardo is president
of “The Heroic Imagination Project”, a non-profit organization. There he is researching, supporting
and developing a teaching program with the aim to improve everyday heroism worldwide.

Petra Zwaka ist Leiterin des regionalgeschichtlichen Verbundes der Museen
Tempelhof-Schöneberg in Berlin. Sie hat dort zahlreiche Ausstellungsprojekte und
Veröffentlichungen zur Stadt- und Kulturgeschichte des Bezirks durchgeführt.
1994 gründete sie als integralen Bestandteil des Schöneberg Museums das Jugend
Museum, welches lokal und global vernetzt arbeitet und für seinen innovativen
Ansatz mehrfach ausgezeichnet wurde. Petra Zwaka ist darüber hinaus aktiv im
Vorstand des europäischen Kindermuseumsverbandes „Hands on! Europe“ und
wirkt dort an der Konzeption internationaler Tagungen und grenzüberschreitender
Kinder- und Jugendprojekte mit.
Petra Zwaka is head of the regional history network of the Tempelhof-Schöneberg Museums in
Berlin, where she has conducted numerous exhibition projects and publications on the district’s
urban and cultural history. In 1994 she founded the Youth Museum, an integral part of the
Schöneberg Museum that is active in local and global networks and has received multiple awards for
its innovative approach. In addition, Petra Zwaka is an active member of the executive board of the
European children’s museum association “Hands on! Europe,” where she collaborates on the
devising of international conferences and cross-border children and youth projects.
