If we have died with [Christ Jesus], we shall also live with him; if we persevere, we shall also reign with him. -- 2 Timothy 2:11-12a
From my point of view, God is the light that illuminates the darkness, even if it does not dissolve it, and a spark of divine light is within each of us. Pope Francis
Serving at Our Lord’s Table We are actively seeking altar servers, especially as the holidays are approaching! Training will be provided. Some reasons to consider being an altar server: 1. Being actively involved will deepen your
understanding of the Mass. 2. You’ll learn fantastic leadership skills. 3. Your school might let you earn volunteer
hours as community service.
Please call Mrs. Craft at (310) 515-5208 and leave a message with your name and phone number.

This November, California voters will be asked to vote on whether end the use of the death penalty. The Catholic Bishops of California support Proposition 62. All life is sacred– innocent or flawed– just as Jesus Christ taught us and demonstrated repeatedly throughout His ministry. The Bishops of the United Stated have long opposed the use of capital punishment. Proposition 62 provides voters with opportunity to bring an end to this severely and irrevocably flawed practice, just as 19 other stated have already done. We must also oppose Proposition 66 which will expedite execution in California. As we conclude the Year of Mercy, California has an opportunity to embrace both justice and mercy (cf. Ps. 85.11) in their voting. We ask you to prayerfully consider support for Proposition 62 and opposition Proposition 66.
California Proposition 62
Each child is sent into this world by God with a unique message to deliver, a new personal act of love to bestow. - John Powell, SJ., Professor of Theology Maria Regina Church prays to end death by human hands: abortion, euthanasia, and capital punishment.
Pro-Life
When we let our hearts be moved by God's mercy, it shapes everything. God made each of us in his own image and likeness. He desires to be united with us forever in a loving relationship. God loves us, treats us with respect, and asks us to do the same with others. Every person is sacred and must be treated with the dignity they deserve. No one should ever be treated callously or carelessly—everyone should be cherished and protected!
We are called to show mercy because mercy has first been shown to us.
Pope Francis

Liturgy of the Word Most of the Liturgy of the Word is made up of readings from Scripture - three Scripture readings for Sundays and solemnities. During most of the year, the first reading is from the Old Testament, and the second reading is from one of the New Testament letters. During Easter Time, the first reading is taken from the Acts of the Apostles, which tells the story of the Church in its earliest days. The last reading is always taken from one of the four Gospels. In the Liturgy of the Word, the Church feeds the people of God from the table of his Word (cf.
Sacrosanctum Concilium, no. 51). The Scriptures are the word of God written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In the Scriptures, God speaks to us, leading us along the path to salvation. The Responsorial Psalm is sung between the readings and helps us to meditate on the word of God. The high point of the Liturgy of the Word is the reading of the Gospel. Because the Gospels tell of the life, ministry, and preaching of Christ, it receives several special signs of honor and reverence. The gathered assembly stands to hear the Gospel and it is introduced by an acclamation of praise. Apart from Lent, that acclamation is "Alleluia," derived from a Hebrew phrase meaning "Praise the Lord!" A priest reads the gospel (or a deacon if present). After the Scripture readings, the celebrant preaches the homily. The homily focuses on the Scripture texts or some other texts from the liturgy, drawing from them lessons that may help us to live better lives, more faithful to Christ's call to grow in holiness. In many Masses, the Profession of Faith then follows the homily with either the Nicene or Apostles' Creed. The Nicene Creed is a statement of faith dating from the fourth century, while the Apostles' Creed is the ancient baptismal creed of the Church in Rome. If baptismal promises are renewed, from a formula based on the Apostles' Creed, this takes the place of the Creed. The Liturgy of the Word concludes with the Universal Prayer, also called the Prayer of the Faithful. The gathered assembly intercedes with God on behalf of the Church, the world, and themselves, entrusting their needs to the faithful and loving God.
