This is a special time in the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church. It reminds us of the great and loving sacrifice that Jesus made for his people by dying on the cross for them. During this week, Christians all over the world come together to pray and prepare themselves to encounter the risen Lord in the joyous feast of Easter. The Easter Triduum begins with Mass on Holy Thursday and ends on Easter Sunday. The Triduum is a three day prayer period that marks the end of Lent and leads the faithful into the Easter season. Since this period marks an important time of prayer and worship, churches all around the country have special services during these days and Christians are encouraged to participate in them. This year your family may like to celebrate this special season at St Patricks Cathedral, which has services at the following times: For further information see www.stpatricks.org.nz. or to attend a service locally, visit your parish website for details on their Holy Week programme. At school we have prepared for this holy season by participating in penitential and reconciliation liturgies and a meaningful Holy Thursday liturgy which was led by the Year 10 students. These well-organised liturgical events provided both staff and students with an opportunity to reflect on their own Lenten journey and prepare for the feast of Easter. Many hours of practice and preparation went into these liturgies and we thank all the students involved, Sr Seini, Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Rodriques for the time and effort they put into this. The week begins with a crowd that welcomes Jesus but, herd like, then calls for his crucifixion. We see Jesus, the Son of God, washing the feet of his disciples and offering his body and blood for the salvation of humankind. There is nothing to humanly admire in suffering, but in Christ’s gruesome suffering and barbaric death, God’s great act of salvation was accomplished. Our suffering too at times is incomprehensible, but often in it lies our spiritual growth and the edification for others. The Easter story, the empty tomb, is the hope and joy of all believers. We too will rise one day and be reunited forever with those who have gone before us – but for now we are grateful not only that we have been saved; not only that in Christ there is no condemnation (Rome 8:1) but because God has clothed us with the garments of salvation, God has covered us with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels (Is 61:10). Let us therefore receive his body and blood as often as we can and enjoy this week – for He has risen! Fleur Carvalho Easter blessings for a safe and joyful holiday

Study Skills for SuccessYear 11 students attended a two hour seminar this week designed to provide them with the study skills, motivation and resilience to excel in NCEA, this year and throughout their secondary schooling. A wide range of study tips and methodologies as well as the vitally important character traits required to apply these skills for optimum success were delivered through stories, images, music and movement. Darren, the presenter uses the acronym - B.E.S.T. to ensure the students will remember and recall the messages.

“See it – believe it – do the work – achieve it”

Excellence: systems to manage themselves and their workloadefficiently.

“In all things have a commitment to completion”

Study: a tool kit of highly effective and easily implementable study techniques to measurably maximise their study scores.

“Focus your mind and achieve results”

Toughness: a variety of mental strategies to help students become resilient in the face of adversity and to bounce back from failure.

“Never give up”

In addition to the seminar booklet, students now have access to downloadable resources such as the study homework planner, music to study by, habit formation trackers and motivational videos at www.successintegrated.com/tools.

African GroupPlacing 2nd African Continent TrophyBeing a part of African group this year has been amazing, along with the ability to compete at Polyfest. 2016 was our firstyearofentrytoPolyfestaspartof showcasing our diversity and our aim was to do our best and have fun. Receiving a call back and then placing was the icing on the cake. Through this whole process, we were able to grow as, not only a school in regards to diversity, but we were able to grow closer as a sisterhood. We found ourselves making friends outside of our own friendships and bonding through music and dance. It is an experience I would recommend to everyone who gets the chance, try out for a cultural group and take the opportunity to attend Polyfest - you will not regret it.
