HULL GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Round bilge sloop rigged cruising yacht with a raised cabin and an aft cockpit.

The hull is strip planked King Billy pine on steam-bent Tasmanian oak frames. The

planking has been glass sheathed both internally and externally.

Accommodation consists of a v-berth forward, two bunk berths to port forward of the

saloon, three saloon berths and a double port quarter berth.

There is an enclosed head to starboard forward of the saloon and to port forward of

the quarter berth.

A well equipped galley is located to starboard forward of the companionway.

The professionally fitted out interior is in excellent condition.

TOPSIDES:

Painted white with a blue boot top.

The paint and planking is in good condition.

The topsides appear fair and structurally sound.

TRANSOM:

Painted plywood transom.

The plywood has been glass sheathed both externally and internally.

The topsides extend aft past the transom to make a boarding platform.

The paint appears in excellent condition.

The transom appears structurally sound.

NB: Any core material that may exist in the transom was not accessible for

inspection.

KEEL:

Lead fin keel.

The keel appears well faired.

The hull/keel join is sound.

KEEL BOLTS:

Stainless steel bolts, nuts and backing plates appear sound.

Laminated transverse structural floors in this area appear sound.

GUNWALES:

Anodised aluminium toerails appear in good condition.

RUDDER/SKEG:

The timber rudder blade appears sound.

The rudder bearing is in good condition.

The rudder skeg is sound.

Adjustable bronze rudder shaft gland appears in good condition.

STERN GEAR:

Autostream 3000 19” three-blade stainless steel geared feathering propeller.

The propeller runs on a 1 3/8” stainless steel shaft and is supported on a bronze skeg.

The propeller appears in good condition.

The shaft bearing appears in good condition.

NB: It was not possible to verify the extent of any electrolysis that may exist on

the propeller due to the paint coatings.

ANODES:

The propeller anode is approximately 50% worn.

There is no evidence of electrolysis.

STEMHEAD:

Stainless steel with twin rollers fitted.

PULPIT:

Stainless steel with navigation lights fitted.

The pulpit is well secured to the deck.

PUSHPIT:

Stainless steel corner rails are in good condition.

The pushpit is well secured to the deck.

STANCHIONS:

Tapered stainless steel in stainless steel bases.

Two guard rail wires are fitted.

All appear well secured to the deck.

CHAINPLATES:

The forestay attaches to the stemhead fitting.

Caps and lowers attach to stainless plates bolted below decks to the saloon bulkhead.

The back stay bridle attaches to stainless steel plates bolted to the transom.

All appear sound and water tight.

NB: No fastenings were removed for inspection.

NB: Chainplates could not be accessed for full inspection.

GROUND TACKLE:

Plough anchor on 50m of 10mm galvanised chain and 200m of 20mm rope.

The anchor appears of adequate size for this vessel.

A spare anchor and tackle is stowed below.

ANCHOR WINCH:

Muir vertical electric winch with chain gypsy and rope capstain.

The winch appears in working condition.

DECK:

Plywood construction on sawn beams.

The plywood has been sheathed and painted.

The paintwork is in excellent condition.

There are generous areas of non-skid.

The decks appear structurally sound.

NB: Any core material that may exist in the deck was not accessible for

inspection.

CABIN/COACH HOUSE:

Plywood construction integral with deck mouldings.

The cabin has been sheathed and painted.

The paintwork appears in excellent condition.

Stainless steel handrails are fitted.

The cabin appears structurally sound.

NB: Any core material that may exist in the cabin was not accessible for

inspection.

WINDOWS:

Opening and fixed ports appear in good condition.

There is no evidence of water ingress.

COCKPIT:

Painted plywood construction on sawn beams.

The cockpit has been sheathed and painted.

The paintwork is in excellent condition.

Teak decking on the seats is in good condition.

The cockpit is self-draining through the transom.

STEERING:

Stainless steel wheel on a painted aluminium pedestal.

Stainless steel wires run through bronze turning blocks to an aluminium radial drive.

The steering system appears in good working condition.

The wheel brake is in working condition.

NB: Wires should be replaced on a regular basis.

MOORING CLEATS:

Anodised aluminium cleats forward and aft.

The cleats appear of adequate size for this vessel.

SPARS:

Painted aluminium tapered section.

Keel stepped.

Double spreader mast head rig.

The deck collar appears sound.

The mast appears in good condition.

Viewed from the deck only.

BOOM:

Painted aluminium section is in good condition.

The goose neck, vang and mainsheet attachments appear sound.

STANDING RIGGING:

1 x 19 stainless steel wires.

The wires appear of adequate size for this yacht.

Standing rigging was replaced in 2015.

NB: Stainless steel rigging wire has a limited working life and should be checked

by a qualified rigger.

RUNNING RIGGING:

Rope halyards appear in good condition.

SPINNAKER POLE:

Anodised aluminium pole mounted on the mast is in good condition.

DECK FITTINGS:

Barient self-tailing primary winches.

Harken electric and manual halyard winches.

Spinlock rope clutches.

Ronstan mainsheet system and blocks.

All appear in working condition.

All appear of adequate size for this yacht.

The hatch appears water tight and is in working condition.

The lights are in working condition.

Varnished internal joinery is in good condition.

The hull sides are painted.

Where visible, the frames, deck shelf and beams appear sound.

The cupboards and catches are in working condition.

FORWARD HEAD:

Painted internal is in good condition.

The electric toilet is in working condition.

The hand basin and shower have cold water available.

The shower sump pump is in working condition.

All lights are working.

Ball valves, hoses and clamps appear in good condition.

A holding tank is fitted.

AFT HEAD:

Painted internal is in good condition.

The manual toilet is in working condition.

All lights are working.

The bench tops and varnished joinery are in good condition.

The double stainless steel sink has cold water available.

Ball valves, hoses and clamps are in good condition.

Two-burner gas stove with oven appears in working condition.

Gas compliance plate number – 47668

Eutectic top-loading refrigeration is in working condition.

The cupboards and catches are in working condition.

NB: The LP gas installation on this vessel should be inspected by a licensed gas

fitter.

SALOON:

Varnished joinery appears in good condition.

The sliding companionway hatch and storm boards appear sound and watertight.

The lights are in working condition.

The hatch appears water tight and is in working condition.

The cabin sole appears sound.

EXHAUST SYSTEM:

Flexible hose running through a stainless steel waterlock.

Hose and clamps appear in good condition.

BILGES:

The bilges are free of oil and diesel.

The bilges appeared clean and dry at time of inspection.

The two electric bilge pumps with float switches are in working condition.

The manual bilge pump is operable from below the cabin sole.

A second manual pump in the cockpit lazarette is also in working condition.

ENGINE:

Perkins Prima four-cylinder, freshwater-cooled diesel engine.

The engine is flexibly mounted on timber beds that appear well fastened to the hull.

Engine oil level is normal.

Coolant level is normal.

Controls and cables are in working condition.

Externally this engine is in good condition.

Flexible engine mounts are in good condition.

Engine instruments are in working condition.

Belts, hoses and clamps are in good condition.

The shaft and gearbox couplings appear in good condition.

The glass bowl on the fuel filter is clean.

Wiring and loom are in good condition.

The saltwater inlet valve is in working condition.

A saltwater inlet filter is fitted.

The bilge below the engine is clean.

Sound insulation is in good condition.

Engine hours –

NB: This is a visual inspection only. A more detailed inspection should be

obtained from a marine mechanic.

STERN GLAND:

PSS dripless gland attaches to the stern tube with hose and clamps.

The stern gland appears in good condition.

FUEL TANKS:

Two stainless steel tanks are fitted.

The tanks are located below the cockpit sole.

Approximate capacity – 250 litres each

Flexible fuel lines and fittings appear in good condition.

WATER TANKS:

Two GRP tanks are fitted.

The tanks are located below the saloon settees.

Approximate capacity – 500 litres each

A 12 volt pressure pump is located below the galley.

The pump is in working condition.

Hoses and clamps are in good condition.

BATTERIES & ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:

Two maintenance free batteries are well secured below the aft saloon settee.

Battery isolator switches are fitted inboard of the batteries.

All navigation lights are working.

All interior lights are working.

There is power to all radios and instruments

NB: This is a visual inspection only. A more detailed inspection should be

obtained from a marine electrician.

BELOW THE WATERLINE

The antifouling appears in good condition and is generally well adhered to the

surface.

The bronze skin fittings appear sound.

The propellor shaft skeg appears well secured.

The hull / keel join appears sound.

An earth plate is fitted to starboard of the propeller skeg.

A sounder transducer is fitted to starboard forward of the keel.

A log impellor is fitted to port forward of the keel.

There is no evidence of heavy grounding.

There is no evidence of any major past repair work.

The hull appears fair and sound.

GENERAL COMMENTS

This vessel has been well maintained and appears in sound structural

condition.

Where visible, the bulkheads appear well bonded to the hull structure.

The scantlings are adequate for a vessel of this size.

The engine has been professionally installed and externally appears in

excellent condition.

Electronics are working and wiring has been professionally installed.

Mast and rig appear in good condition and of adequate size for this yacht

Interior fit out is in excellent condition.

Cushions and upholstery are in excellent condition.

This yacht is in seaworthy condition.

VALUATION

This is a unique vessel that presents in exceptional condition both structurally and

cosmetically.

It is estimated that the value of “Scoundrel” on the current market would be between

$180,000.00 and $250,000.00.
