MARNEBEK WEEKLY UPDATE

RESPECT | RESPONSIBILTY | RESILIENCE | SAFETY

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a week we have had! Sunday afternoon’s seem to be a new date for our calendars, with Dan Andrews’s announcement of a return to remote and flexible learning for students in a specialist setting as part of the Stage 4 lockdown.

While this is somewhere we’ve all been before, we will work with all our families to build upon the teaching strategies we used last time. We will continue to support all of our stu-dents engage as best they can with the Curriculum.

The first change most classes will see is the introduction of a WebEx/Microsoft Team home room every morning. This is an easy way for our staff to mark your child’s attendance, and gives our students that much needed face to face time with their classroom staff. Whilst we will do our best to help all our students connect, we understand that not everyone will be tech-ready to connect with their peers. If your child can’t make it to their morning check in, please let the classroom teacher know so they can mark the roll accordingly.

Remember, were here to help as best we can. If you need support, tips or guidance on how best to provide for your child’s learning during this difficult time, please contact your child’s teacher. They are a wealth of knowledge for supporting learn-ing, and can help put you in touch with the right person for questions they may not have the answer to at their fingertips. More than ever, now is the time to pull together as a school community.

As a school we will continue to provide your child with learning through Seesaw, digital assemblies, weekly updates, and posts to Facebook and Compass as frequently as needed. Please share with us your experiences – both good and bad – and help us continue to grow. It’s a long road ahead, but together, we can take on this challenge, and make this a positive time in which we demonstrate our school value of resilience.

Kind regards,

Jade Nedic

Welcome to our weekly Digital Assembly edition 3! Watch it here: Digital Assembly Edition 3

Instagram is a social media app used by more than one billion people around the world to share photos, videos and messag-

es. Whether it’s through Stories, Feed, Live, IGTV (an app from Instagram that lets users share longer videos) or Direct,

teens use Instagram to celebrate big milestones, share everyday moments, keep in touch with friends and family, build

communities of support and meet others who share their passions and interests. It runs on the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod

Touch as well as Android phones and tablets.

Instagram lets you follow people and be followed by them, but unlike Facebook it’s not necessarily a two-way street. You

can follow someone even if they don’t follow you and vice versa. Users with a private account can control who can follow

them. Unless you change the default to private, anyone can see what you post.

MARNEBEK WEEKLY UPDATE

RESPECT | RESPONSIBILTY | RESILIENCE | SAFETY

This week has been quite a roll coaster ride for everyone, and we all have gone back to re-mote learning starting this Wednesday. This time round, we are well equipped and more pre-pared compared to last time. I am sure we all have done remote learning earlier and we can do this again.

There is a lot information to go through and process for all our families. These are some un-precedented challenging times, our community is going through and we wanted to assure all the families they are not alone and our whole Marnebek Community is with them. If families need any support, please communicate with your class teacher and we will be in touch to sup-port you.

As most of you would have already started using WEBEX now for the school attendance. We would request all of you to be patient with the teachers and give yourself, as well as them, some time to learn the new technology. Our Junior School team is working together to make it accessible for families as much as possible. It is exciting to see how our students are acquiring new skills through navigating WEBEX.

From Junior School team I would like to take this opportunity to say that we all miss our students as much as they miss us. We hope that these crises will be soon over and we would see each other. Until then see you all through WEBEX.

Kind regards,

Chitra Vig

WHO’S WHO @ MARNEBEK

Rick Milsom—203 Classroom Teacher Hi Marnebek family! My name is Rick and I am a Middles teacher at New Holland Drive Campus. This is my second year at Marnebek and I have 13 children in my class who are awesome! We have lots of fun in 203 and what I like most about my class is that they are always willing to have a go at challeng-es. The parents and families of the children in my class are terrific and very supportive, especially during lockdown. One of the best parts of the job at Marnebek are the staff I work with. They are always friendly and helpful and care for each other and the children. I have two children, Lisa 13 and David 17. Lisa is a really sweet girl who likes to wrestle with me and dance on Tik Tok. David is brilliant with computers and fixes them for a job part-time while he is still at school! He wants to be a school computer technician like Gurjeet and Scott. Lisa isn't sure what job she wants just yet, but says she wants one that pays a lot of money!

I have a very shy ginger cat called Owen, who likes to be patted and fed, and in my spare time I like to watch The Gee-long Football Club pulverise other football teams especially Hawthorn. Some of my favourite movies are old, like me, such as 'Platoon', 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'Dumb and Dumber'. I really like daggy music from the 70s and 80's such as, The Divinyls, ACDC, Midnight Oil, Dragon, INXS, Mondo, Rock and Noiseworks among others — Australian music at its peak back then, or am I just biased? I used to love playing cricket and my heroes when I was growing up were The Chap-pell brothers, Dennis Lillee and David Hookes. When I left school I could be found at highly reputable establishments such as Inflation, The Underground, Armadeus and 21st Century Dance Club. Ahhh the good old days!

Cheers, Rick

COVID-19 TESTING

We’ve had some questions from people wondering what to do after they get tested for coronavirus (COVID19). Here’s what you need to know: Everyone with symptoms should self-isolate (staying home and not attending work, school, etc.) and get tested as soon as they can. Healthcare workers all over Victoria are working hard on getting your results back to you.

While you’re waiting for your results, continue to self-isolate at home!

For all information about getting tested visit: COVID-19 Getting Tested

! COVID-19 STAGE 4 RESTRICTIONS !

We must all do our part in reducing the movement of people across the state, and this is one way we can make a significant

difference within Casey.

The City of Casey has made the decision to suspend the school crossing service throughout the Stage 4 restrictions, being

the next six weeks, effective Thursday 6 August 2020. The health and safety of our staff and of the community is our first

priority.

What does this mean for the school community?

Beginning Thursday 6th August 2020, there will be no school crossings staffed across the municipality.

If you do find you have students still in attendance from this day, we would encourage you to share this information

with students and families.

What happens after Stage 4 Restrictions are lifted?

The school crossing service will be back to support the school community

Council will continue to monitor the advice of the Department of Education and decisions for operations for the remain-

der of Term 3 will be informed by their advice.

We thank you for your understanding during this time, and if you have any questions or concerns, we welcome you to call

or email us on 9705 5304 or [email protected] .

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Children's Week in October 2020 celebrates the right of all children to choose their own friends and safely connect with others. This is based on Article 15 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

This year City of Casey’s annual Children's Week Event, Spring into Play, will look different to other years due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions. To find out how we can support children to safely connect in the current environment we invite Casey’s Children aged 0-12 years, to tell us how they would like to celebrate Children's Week 2020 in a virtual/social distancing world.

By completing this survey and returning it via email to [email protected] or completing it online via the Casey Conversation’s website https://conversations.casey.vic.gov.au/ the responses will assist in developing a fun, virtual event that will help children connect with their friends and others. They will also go in the draw to win one of two $50 Westfield vouchers*. Survey closes Monday 10 August 2020 at 9.00pm. Winners will be notified by email and announced on Friday 14 August 2020.
