Supporting Good, Clean, and Fair Food

“Slow food aims to be everything fast food is not.”

Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating.

It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.

What is Slow Food?

Page 4: Marquette University Slow Food Campaign Project Overview

Slow Food USA seeks to create dramatic and lasting change in the food system.

We reconnect Americans with the people, traditions, plants, animals, fertile soils and waters that produce our food.

We seek to inspire a transformation in food policy, production practices and market forces so that they ensure equity, sustainability and pleasure in the food we eat.

Slow Food Mission

Food is a common language and a universal right.

Slow Food USA envisions a world in which all people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it and good for the planet.

Slow Food Vision

Good. Clean. Fair.

The word good can mean a lot of things to a lot of people.

For Slow Food, the idea of good means enjoying delicious food created with care from healthy plants and animals.

The pleasures of good food can also help to build community and celebrate culture and regional diversity.

When we talk about clean food, we are talking about nutritious food that is as good for the planet as it is for our bodies.

It is grown and harvested with methods that have a positive impact on our local ecosystems and promotes biodiversity.

Clean

We believe that food is a universal right.

Food that is fair should be accessible to all, regardless of income, and produced by people who are treated with dignity and justly compensated for their labor.

Fair

• Raising public awareness, improving access and encouraging the enjoyment of foods that are local, seasonal and sustainably grown.

• Caring for the land and protecting biodiversity for today's communities and future generations. • Performing educational outreach within their communities and working with children in schools and through public programs.

• Identifying, promoting and protecting fruits, vegetables, grains, animal breeds, wild foods and cooking traditions at risk of disappearance.

• Advocating for farmers and artisans who grow, produce, market, prepare and serve wholesome food.

• Promoting the celebration of food as a cornerstone of pleasure, culture and community.

From Plate to PlanetIn the United States, members of Slow Food USA's 200 chapters celebrate the amazing bounty of food that is available and work to strengthen the connection between the food on our plates and the health of our planet. Our members are involved in activities such as:

Campaigns Converged

Next semester we will offer a converged section of the Advertising Campaigns and Public Relations Campaigns.

Our client will be Slow Food USA/Campus Convivia. We will work with our client to develop an integrated social marketing campaign for its Slow Food on Campus initiative.

Slow Food on Campus is a network of Campus Convivia, chapters of Slow Food USA run by college and university students across the country. These Campus Convivia are the living, breathing, working arm of Slow Food USA in the college community.

By promoting food and food justice issues and by engaging their fellow students in the pleasures of the table and the garden, Campus Convivia aim to promote a slower, more just, and more harmonious rhythm of life on our nation's college campuses.

Local and Organic Food on Campus

How to get more local, organic, seasonal and sustainable food into dining halls on university campuses across the country seems to be an ongoing topic of discussion as the school year gets underway.

Some universities are making progress and shifting the traditional way of acquiring food to feed masses of hungry students who show up in the dining hall three times a day–at least–looking for something to eat.

Others, however, are still struggling to make the transition in the dining halls to good, clean and healthy food.

Campaigns ConvergedThe campaign will blend both traditional and non-traditional media, but will rely heavily on the creative use of social media, viral marketing, and digital storytelling.

Professional mentors and advisers will be involved to assist in the development of more than just a plans book; we will develop and implement strategy and execute tactics in an effort to meet campaign objectives and out client’s goals.
