Technical Service Engineer

2005-Date

Responsible for the strip down and build of steam turbines in the

UK and overseas. Duties include issuing daily work instructions,

method statements and check sheets to progress the overhaul.

Following grit blasting, NDT and strip down measurements of all

components I issue interim inspection reports recommending

remedial action where necessary. For final rebuild I issue cylinder

and diaphragm moves to correct internal clearances and calculate

final alignment moves where necessary to ensure smooth running

of the machine. On completion of the mechanical works I am often

present during run up for return to service to deal with any

operation problems which may arise due to the outage works.

Commissioning Manager

2009-2010

Responsible for the commissioning of a 490MW retrofit in the

Netherlands. I had several Mechanical and Electrical Engineers

commissioning the gland steam, lubrication oil system, turbine

drains, turbine governor, electric turning gear and turbine

supervisory equipment. The project was competed on time and all

systems met customer requirements.

Construction Manager

2001-2005

Responsible for the mechanical construction of 3 x 760 MW

turbines in Malaysia managing the turbine, generator and pipework

supervisors. I was responsible for installing the turbine supports on

the civil foundations, positioning bearing pedestals, cylinders, rotor

alignments and completion of check sheets for hand over to

commissioning.

Commissioning Engineer

1991-2001

Working for the commissioning manager on new build large steam

turbines (400-660MW) in Canada, Philippians, India, China and the

UK. Following hand over from construction I commissioned gland

steam, lubrication oil, electrical turning gear, turbine drains and

main steam valve high pressure oil systems.

During initial run up and operations I was a shift operator,

performing unit and generator tests up to handover to the

customer for commercial operation.

Site Engineer/Supervisor

1988-2001

Competent to supervise and instruct skilled and semi-skilled labour

on all aspects of a steam turbine overhaul. Typical tasks include

shaft alignment, concentricity, journal and thrust bearing work,

bolt heating and hydraulic tightening of cylinder bolts.

Design Draughtsman

1982-1985

A design draughtsman for British Nuclear Fuels producing layout

and detail drawings for a Uranium Enrichment plant at Capenhurst,

UK.

Apprentice Fitter/Turner

1978-1982

Four year apprenticeship; 2 years training on machine tools,

turning, milling, surface and cylindrical grinding; 2 years general

fitting, welding, pipework and plant maintenance.
