Marvel 1911 - .22 Conversion Unit

General Information

Thank you for purchasing a Marvel Precision 1911-.22 Conversion Unit.

The first major consideration in the design of this unit is reliability. For this reason theslide is made from 7075 aluminum because of its' durability and lightness of weight.This allows the use of a 9-pound recoil spring, which cleanly strips rounds off themagazine. We then designed and installed a hardened steel breech/firing pin insertinto the slide that gives the Unit durability in the areas of the breech face, breechrecess and other critical areas. Because the slide is aluminum, we had to sacrifice the"last round" lock back feature. We feel this is a relatively small price to pay, given theUnits' other assets.

Although there might be an occasional exception, this unit will "drop" into any "single-stack" 1911 frame without fitting or adjusting.

We believe you will be very happy with your purchase. If, in some way, we have madea mistake in assembly, please let us know right away. We will fix the problem, as quicklyas possible. Your proof of our sincere intent is in our response to your concerns.

Some of the symptoms that may occur are:failure to feed, stovepipes, mis-fires and light strikes.

WE RECOMMEND THE AMMO LISTED BELOW,THIS IS THE AMMO WE USE:

CCI Mini Mag, Remington "Thunderbolt", Remington "Cyclone"

Your Conversion Unit was tested with CCI Mini Mag.

Instructions

HOW TO INSTALL THE UNIT ON YOUR RECEIVER:

1) Remove magazine and unload firearm you intend on using. Double check the firearmto insure the weapon is unloaded by looking into the chamber area and that there isnot a round in the chamber. Make sure it is safe!

2) Remove the top end of the 1911 (slide, barrel, recoil rod, spring, slide stop).3) Slide the Marvel 1911-.22 Conversion Unit into the frame.4) Install the Marvel slide stop into the frame insuring that the barrel has been captured

by the slide stop. Do not lock the slide back to install the slide stop, as there is takedown slot in the slide that allows the slide to go into place.

5) Move the slide slightly out of battery (1/2" or so to the rear) so that you can use thespecial take-down tool to screw the recoil rod firmly against the slide stop. This willdraw the barrel firmly down onto the frame.

6) Move the slide back and forth checking that it is free and closes easily.

BEFORE FIRING:

• The slide will not lock back after the last round using our magazines. Using magazinesthat lock the slide back will damage the lock-back notch, and void the warranty.

• The slide can be locked back manually.• The magazine will hold up to 10 rounds.• Dry firing can be done but is not recommended on a regular basis.• When unloading your unit or when you are finished shooting, visually check the

chamber for a live round that possibly did not extract. While this is not likely it isalways better to be safe. CHECK AND RECHECK.

• A stock (factory standard), a reduced power 19 or 20-pound mainspring will work.

MAINTENANCE:

• Periodically check the tightness of the Recoil Rod. A slight amount of either purple(222) or blue (242) Loctite or similar product needs to be used if Recoil Rod becomesloose. IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE RED OR GREEN LOCTITE. These are permanentand you may not be able to easily disassemble the unit.

• We recommend replacing the Recoil Spring every 2,500 to 3,000 rounds as is requiredwith most 1911 models of any caliber.

• Use a small amount of oil on the slide rails.

• Keep the breech area and the chamber clean for the best accuracy and reliability.DO NOT REMOVE THE STEEL BREECH FROM THE ALUMINUM SLIDE.

DISASSEMBLY FOR CLEANING:

• Remove Magazine and unload the weapon. Visually check the chamber for a live

round - make sure it is safe!

Remove Conversion Unit from frame.

Unscrew Recoil Rod completely out of the Barrel Lug.Remove Recoil Rod and Spring from assembly.Remove Barrel from the Slide.

SOME CAUSES OF INACCURACY:

Oil or cleaning solvent in the bore.Damage to the crown of the muzzle.Certain types and lots of ammo.Bad magazines.Extreme temperatures (below 40° F and above 95° F).Too light of a mainspring or hammer hit.Hammer bumping the sear.Improper use of the Ransom Rest.Not looking at the front sight or red dot.High velocity ammo tends to be less accurate that standard velocity.

We test each unit with a variety of ammunition, which includes: Lapua, Aguila and CCI. Rimfire guns can be "choosy" in what they like the best. There are some brands of ammo thatdo not function very well in any .22. By shooting groups with different kinds of ammunition, youand your gun will decide which you prefer.

Never point any firearm at anything you do not intend to shoot. Be extremely alert andaware of all persons and property within the range of your ammunition.

2, NEVER RELY TOTALLY ON YOUR FIREARMS MECHANICAL "SAFETY" DEVICES.ALWAYS ASSUME THAT YOUR PISTOL CAN BE FIRED AT ANY TIME. EVEN WITH

ALL SAFETY MECHANISMS ENGAGED.

LIKE ANY MECHANICAL DEVICE. A "SAFETY" CAN SOMETIMES FAIL: IT CAN BEJARRED OR INADVERTENTLY MANIPULATED INTO AN UNSAFE CONDITION.

SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST. THINK ABOUT YOUR ACTIONS AND HOW THEY MAY

IMPACT ON OTHERS OR OTHERS PROPERTY.

Mechanical "safeties" merely aid safe gun handling and are no excuse for point your gun'smuzzle in an unsafe direction. While it is a good idea to "test" your gun's mechanical"safeties" periodically for proper function, never test them while your pistol is loaded orpointed in an unsafe direction. Do not carry the MARVEL 1911-.22 CONVERSION UNIT orany other gun in the half cock position. The half cock position is provided as a means ofcatching the hammer if it should accidentally slip from the shooter's thumb during theprocess of cocking. Carefully followthe manufacturers procedures for lowering the hammerfrom the cocked to the dropped position as explained in the owners manual provided bythe manufacturer of your 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol.

Safe gun handling does not stop with your gun's mechanical "safety" devices, ITSTARTSTHERE. Always treat your firearms with the respect due a loaded, ready-to-fire firearm.

a DO NOT CARRY YOUR 1911 CONVERSION UNIT WITH A ROUND IN THECHAMBER.

For good safety practice, it is recommended that a round not be chambered until immediatelybefore your pistol is to be fired.

4. THERECOMMENDED CARRYING POSITION OF THEMARVEL 1911 CONVERSIONUNIT IS WITH THE HAMMER IN THE DROPPED POSITION.

Carefully follow the procedures for lowering the hammer from the cocked to the decockedposition as explained in the owner's manual provided with your 1911 Semi-AutomaticPistol.

£. WHENEVER YOU HANDLE YOUR MARVEL 1911 CONVERSION UNIT ESPECIALLYWHEN IT IS ATTACHED TO A 1911 FRAME. MAKE SURE IT IS COMPLETELY

UNLOADED.

To fully unload your MARVEL 1911 CONVERSIONUNITyou must first remove the magazine,open and lock the slide rearward, and visually inspect the chamber to be certain it does notcontain a cartridge. It is vital that you remove the magazine from your pistol so a cartridgeis not automatically chambered when you close the action.

& KEEP YOUR PISTOL UNLOADED FOR TRANSPORT AND STORAGE.

Keep it unloaded, whether stored in a holster, gun case or other container.

Z BEWARE OF OBSTRUCTIONS TO THE BARREL.

Always check your pistol for barrel obstructions while preparing to shoot. Do this by (1) fullyunloading the pistol by removing the magazine, (2) locking the action open and (3) inspectingthe chamber. BE CERTAIN THERE ARE NO ROUNDS IN THE CHAMBER. Then glancedown the barrel, NEVERFROM THEMUZZLEEND, to be sure it is clear of any obstruction.A small obstruction can dangerously increase pressures. Before the first firing, clean thebore with a cleaning rod and patch, and wipe away any moisture in the chamber andaround the action.

& LOOK FOR SIGNS OF AMMUNITION MALFUNCTIONS.

If you detect an off sound or lighter than anticipated recoil when a cartridge is fired, do notload another cartridge in the chamber. Fullyunload by removing the magazine and removingthe cartridge from the chamber. Glance down the barrel from the breech end, NEVERFROM THE MUZZLE END, to make sure that an obstruction does not remain in the barrel.

Ifthere is an obstruction, completely clear the barrel before loading and firing again. IFYOUFAIL TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND THE INSTRUCTION IN YOUR OWNERS

MANUAL, you can cause extensive damage to your gun, the MARVEL 1911 CONVERSIONUNIT and possible serious and even life threatening injury to yourself and others.

a BE CERTAIN YOUR FIREARM IS COMPLETELY UNLOADED BEFORE CLEANING.

DISASSEMBLY OR REASSEMBLY.

Many gun accidents happen when a firearm is being cleaned. Therefore, you must exercisespecial and extreme care to ensure your gun is unloaded before cleaning, disassemblyand/or reassembly. KEEPAMMUNITION AWAY FROMTHECLEANING LOCATION. NEVERTEST THE MECHANICAL FUNCTION OF YOUR FIREARM USING LIVE AMMUNITION.

m. ALWAYS UNLOAD YOUR FIREARM WHEN NOT IN USE.

You are responsible for your firearm even when it is unattended. Store your firearm andammunition separately and well beyond the reach of children. KEEP YOUR FIREARMUNLOADED WHEN NOT IN USE OR IN STORAGE OR WHEN UNATTENDED. Take all safe

guards to ensure that your firearm and your MARVEL 1911 CONVERSION UNIT does notbecome available to untrained, inexperienced or unwelcome hands.

11. USE PROPER AMMUNITION.

MARVEL PRECISION, LLC. assumes no liability for accidents which occur through the useof cartridges of non-standard dimensions or that develop pressures in excess of commerciallyavailable ammunition that has been loaded in accordance with standards established bythe Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI). THEMARVEL 1911-.22CONVERSION UNIT is designed for .22 caliber long-rifle cartridges. THE CALIBER OFYOUR 1911 CONVERSION UNIT IS INSCRIBED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SLIDE. FAILURETO USE CORRECTAMMUNITION MAYRESULTINSERIOUS INJURYTO YOURSELFOR OTHERS.

13, KEEP FINGERS AWAY FROM THE TRIGGER WHILE COCKING THE HAMMER.UNLOADING. LOADING AND REMOVING THE MAGAZINE. UNTIL YOU ARE READY

TO SHOOT.

1± BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND BACKSTOP.

Take additional care and precautions during periods of low light. Know the range of yourammunition. Never shoot at water or hard objects.

15, DROPPING YOUR MARVEL CONVERSION UNIT WHEN LOADED CAN CAUSEACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE EVEN WITH THE HAMMER IN THE DROPPED POSITION.

Be extremely careful during any type of shooting activity to avoid dropping any firearm.

16, ALWAYS COMPLETELY UNL HAD YOUR PISTOI 'S CHAMBER BEFORE CROSSINGA FENCE. CLIMBING A TREE. JUMPING A DITCH OR NEGOTIATING OTHER

OBSTACLES.

Never place your pistol on any unstable object.

17, IF YOUR MARVEL 1911 CONVERSION UNIT FAILS TO FIRE. KEEP THE MUZZLEPOINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION.

Hold this position for a minimum of 30 seconds. Remove the magazine. Carefully open theaction and remove the cartridge. If the primer is indented, the cartridge should be disposedof in a way that cannot cause harm. If the primer is not indented, completely unload thepistol. A qualified gunsmith should examine your firearm and the cause of the malfunctionshould be corrected before further use.

18, WEAR APPROPRIATE EAR AND EYE PROTECTION WHEN SHOOTING.

Unprotected, repeated exposure to gunfire can cause hearing damage. Wear ear protectors(shooting ear plugs or muffs) to guard against such damage. Wear shooting glasses to protectyour eyes from flying particles. Always keep a safe distance between the muzzle of yourfirearm and any persons nearby, as muzzle blast, debris and ejecting shells could inflictserious injury. Also, wear eye protection when disassembling and cleaning your pistol toprevent the possibility of springs, spring-tensioned parts, solvents or other agents fromcontacting your eyes.

1£_ BE DEFENSIVE AND ON GUARD AGAINST UNSAFE GUN HANDLING AROUNDYOU AND OTHERS. DO NOT BE TIMID WHEN IT COMES TO GUN SAFETY.

If you observe other shooters violating any of these safety precautions, politely suggestsafer handling practices.

20. SUPERVISE AND TEACH FIREARMS SAFETY TO ALL MEMBERS OF YOUR FAMILY.

This is especially important when children and non-shooters are involved. Closely supervisenewcomers to the shooting sports. Encourage enrollment in hunting/shooting safety courses.

ZL NEVER DRINK ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE OR TAKE ANY TYPE OF DRUGS BEFOREOR DURING SHOOTING.

Your vision and judgment could be dangerously impaired, making your gun handling unsafeto you or others.

Your firearm and your MARVEL 1911 CONVERSION UNIT is a mechanical device which willnot last forever, and as such, is subject to wear and requires periodic inspection, adjustmentsand service. The manufacturers recommended provider of such service should service yourfirearm. MARVEL cannot assume any responsibility for injuries suffered by unauthorizedservicing, alterations or modifications to your 1911 Semi-Automatic pistol or to the MARVEL1911 CONVERSION UNIT.
